Am I the only one sick of Oprah?
I thought this whole week of shows were the most self serving egotistical things I could imagine. Yes, Oprah had done a lot, yes she's brought attention to countless issues, yes she's donated a lot of money. But to hear her go on and on about how great she is...geez! Would Mother Teresa be on TV telling the world how amazing she is? Just a shred of humility and grace would not have been out of order. I'm sure I'll get slammed for saying this but I just had to get it off my chest!
Oprah who? Never watched her, never will, not sure I missed anything.
I do like "Dancing with the Stars" though..... Is Oprah gonna be on that?
Never watched Oprah! That would be funny to see her on DWTS! Add her to the "has-been" list for that show. Thats about all they get to dance.
She is just so full of herself. Her last shows are just her saluting herself and how wonderful she is! "Oh, look at all the great things I have done!" "I AM Just the best!" Give me a break!! There are tons of philanthropic people in this world that have done much more and remain in the shadows, why does she feel the need to blow her own horn? GOD I AM SO SICK OF HER. I'm with u Lady Jayne. She Sucks!
I don't watch her show, and I'm glad I didn't tune in this week! Sheesh!
Now, who's going to watch the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN)? Does anyone know if it's going to be a channel you have to pay extra for, like HBO? Or will it be on the regular cable listing? Not that I'm going to tune in (and certainly not if I have to pay for it); I was just wondering.
A couple of things: I've loved watching Oprah and have learned a lot from her shows. I've been entertained by some of her favorite celebrity guests. I've enjoyed some of her book recommendations (as I've enjoyed books recommended on HL). She always seemed happiest when she was giving things away.
Having said that, I was very disappointed and kind of agree with Lady Jayne. Sure all those accolades could go to a person's head, but yesterday's show was a bit much for me.
One more thing, I could never understand how people could say they can't stand her and then say they never watched her show. She's not your cup of tea? OK. She Sucks? Now that's awfully harsh, imo.
she sure got a fat ass, my eyes hurt looking & I'm sick of her too !!! REAL glad she going
cbel - I have never watched her show, but have heard the promo commercials while watching other things. The promos alone were enough for me to keep my distance. Personally, I'm not a fan of reality TV and chick shows (soaps, talk shows etc.). Too much silly drama for me. I'd much rather pop open a beer and watch a game. I'm glad there are a lot of different channels. :)
She has done more to damage this country then any other person in modern history & she introduced us to Barry Sotero...
I agree...I think Oprah would have better spent her time sitting at home, reading a local forum, and complaining about other people who were trying to do some good.
Never watched her and never will......I also hate what she has done with the OWN Network! WOnt watch that either. Also dont want any of her shows that were spun off from her show. Dr, Phil, Dr. Oz or Nate! Waste of time for me.
I'm in absolute agreement with Lady Jayne. I've always found Oprah to be one of the most arrogant celebrities out there. I remember a few years ago she had a huge temper tantrum in Paris because one of the high-end designer boutiques wouldn't extend their hours just so she could shop. Then she hosted a party where everyone had to wear black and only she was allowed to wear red (not sure on the exact colors, but you get the point).
Yep, she's done a lot of good for a lot of people, but definitely needs a lesson or two in humility.
She is the largest private donor in the country (at least she was at one time) so I admire her for that. I have also thought she has shed a lot of light on important issues that get overlooked over the years. I don't watch her show, as I have a full time job, but I have caught episodes here and there over the years and enjoyed the ones I saw. Unfortunately, I have noticed that she has gotten rather self-important over the years, but I imagine it would be rather hard not too, if you were the most powerful woman in the country. I mean, look at how self-important many of the posters here are, and we are all Nobodies from Nowheresville USA. Imagine how they'd be if they had money and power? ;)
An innocent question regarding her philanthropic ventures....I know she built some schools for girls in some African countries but what kinds of donations has she done in the USA?
I heard an opinion on this on the radio and it was too funny not to share:
The big losers in this situation are the husbands of Oprah's viewers. Much like mothers can sit a pain in the ass kid down in front of Sesame Street and get an hour break from the constant nagging and general overall nonsense, these poor guys were assured an hour each day where they didn't have to listen to the yapping that is pretty much universal with fans of Oprah. Now they're going to have to put up with it constantly, lol.
Jackie - A quick Google got me this from her official charity's website:
http://oprahsangelnetwork.org/our-work/overview
They say they've done a lot with post-Katrina work and Habitat in addition to education grants.
I can take it if I think of what she's done for so many.
I would LOVE a gag order on the media for :
Kim Kardashian
Linday Lohan
The Situation
etc.
Tired of having them rammed down my throat as 'news', when they are totally irrelevant. If I want to hear about them, I'll tune into TMZ. (which I love...lol) I just don't want them as news or meaning anything to society, other than the media making them more than they are.
At least Oprah has done for so many.
Lady Jayne, The incessant hype regarding her last show(s) were really getting to me. I ended up watching the very last one, however. It was a bit long and drawn out. I have watched Oprah on and off in the past, depending on the guests or topics. I absolutely abhorred it when she had celebrities on there as she always seemed to "trip over herself" and gush all over them profusely. Kind of nauseating....always ended up not watching much of the interview. As many have pointed out here, I think she is a generous giver to charities, and I think she genuinely gets a lot of pleasure giving things away to those in need, so I think her heart is in the right place. The one exception to this is her "Favorite Things" shows, however. I always thought them to be pretentious, and, for all her emphasis on spiritual things, they just seemed to send the wrong message....IMHO. Oh, well, so long Oprah....have a nice life.
While I'm hardly a fan, for all of the bitter people on this thread, let's look at what Oprah has done:
1) Was born into poverty by a single teen mother; Oprah herself had been sexually molested
2) Started hosting a radio show at 19 which led to her tv career
3) At a time when talk shows were trash, she reinvented hers to a more positive-socially minded show (that's probably lost on our society these days as evidenced by the popularity of "Real Housewives" and "Jersey Shore")
4) Her show, under her direction, became the flagship of a multi-billion dollar business
While she could've kept her billions to herself, she became one of the largest philanthropist this world has seen by helping out causes globally.
If anyone has earned the right to be full of themselves and arrogant, it's Oprah. While I have made a few comments deriding the legions of mindless women that hang on her every word, if there is someone in the media to admire and model yourself after, it's Oprah.
Just sayin'...
emaxx - Most of us (or at least I) are not trying to overlook any of the good that she has done, just saying that her show isn't for us. I'm sure the same people that watch her, watch The View, soap operas and Lifetime. All not for me either. :o)
Assumptions, Calico, assumptions. For the record, to each his own; we all like what we like and no argument there. My only gripe is with people who say they hate her, but have never even watched. Maybe not so many on HL but there are plenty like that out there.
Calico - I didn't have issues with anyone who stated that the show wasn't for them. I'm not a fan of the show and don't watch it either since I'm at work. However, the remarks calling her a phony, full of herself, etc just seemed really harsh. It just seemed to come across as petty jealousy.
I don't hate her, I don't even know her. ;-)
I know that I don't like that type of show though, just as some might not want to watch a baseball game. For the record, I did see about 10 minutes of one of her shows once while I was sitting in a waiting room. That was enough for me. :o)
What tires me out is that she's been saying "goodbye" for more than five years. Go already!
ellis suffers from delayed-reaction syndrome. About 3 months from now, he will smack his forehead with his hand and yell, "DOH!"
emaxxman, I agree with everything you said. I am not a huge fan, however I have watched shows if it was a topic I found interesting. As you pointed out, she rose from nothing, to greatness. Hasn't she earned the right to be a little proud of herself? If the majority here thinks she is TOO proud, that is certainly your right. But I think the majority of people nationwide would not agree. If that were not the case, she would not be thought of so highly and would not be able to be so egotistical, as so many here feel. She may have had her "moments", but over all, I don't think she can be that bad. Most of her staff has been with her for many years, some from the beginning. If she were that difficult, people would not have stayed with her as long as they have. I am not a big fan of Oprah's, but nor do I hate her. She has done a lot of good for a lot of people over the years. I wish her well in whatever her future endevors are.
She is a passive racist. I watched her interview with LL Cool J where he was describing being physically abused as a boy. She responded how when she heard that, she felt bad for young boys, particularly black boys. What a racist comment and how degrading to ALL children who have been victims of abuse!!! She is ridiculous and so arragont it's shameful.

When I was a teenager I loved Oprah. She seemed so cool and real. I intensely dislike when people dismiss her because of her weight. That's awful. BUT then she started promoting products on her show, which was supposed to be "spiritual" and personal growth in content. I was disappointed because I realized she was promoting a product she obviously had financial interest in and made a lot of people sick or they didn't need (ie Optifast). She uses her brand, which she says is about LOVE, to make money. Nothing wrong with making money but she is a self appointed prophet so it makes her a hypocrite. I tuned in to her show years later when I took a sick day and I almost vomited. She was giving the audience a tour of her Hawaii home and gloating about it, "y'all I just LOVE my house." Now every time I'm in the grocery store her face is planted on the cover of her magazine and it's so egotistical. This month she's on the cover holding about 20 designer bags and smiling arrogantly. It's all simply disgusting and I also don't see why people can't see how she's a complete narcissist. The people who say she's self aggrandizing are correct. The people who defend her because she donates money should stop drinking the koolaid. Re the "philanthropy" yeah it helps people but she won't do anything generous without a press release and a TV crew. In 12 step - which she needs by the way - you're supposed to give without bragging about it. Otherwise it's phony and an ego trip. Yeah she rose from poverty but she has become the sort of entitled queen she probably hated as a kid.
This is where all the Trump posts belong. Rich, selfish TV reality show "star". If he became president, Oprah would probably run next.
I know it's her magazine, but WHO puts themselves on a magazine cover every month? Doesn't she get enough press?

I admire Oprah and can't wait to see the new show she stars in regarding life and second chances...That is where I am at in my life and probably would find the show very inspirational. Her Soul Sunday programs are very uplifting as well...Peace V
