Daily Commuters to NYC

Hi Folks,
I love the area, me and my girlfriend live in NYC and she is from the Berskshires in MA originally and is looking to get back to that smaller town feel as we are both fed up with NYC.

The problem is we are not willing to give up our jobs there. So I wanted to ask if any of you commute M-F to work in NYC and if so what mode of commuting do you use, times and costs including those of you who drive. Thanks for all the help!

The train is a little over 2 hrs. Buses probably a bit more. Not an easy thing to do for a long time. Even though imo it's worth it living out this way. It might be doable if you work off-hours and not a lot of OT.

Actually, I see quite a few people getting off the bus from NYC in Panther Valley weekday evenings. I don't know whether or not I've added the website correctly for Martz bus, but give it a try and check out the schedules and prices. It doesn't seem like that bad a deal.

LMAO- The reators advertise that Hackettstown and Panther Valley "IS ONLY 1 HOUR TO NYC" ... sure, if you are driving at 3 am. Commuting is a nightmare. Its easily 2 hours by train and bus. Its like a 12 to 14 hour day. Concider living in the city during the week and weekends out this far. Thats what a few friends of mine are doing, and it works out great. They share a small apt. in the city. The "work from home on fridays" works out great.

They tried that one hour BS from homes in the Poconos. I heard stories of people having to leave those homes and move back -- too long of a commute.

Route 80 is a nightmare, plain and simple. Unless you leave at 6 or before in the morning, you will be spending your whole morning on that road. Forget about trying to get home on a Friday night, traffic doesn't ease up until after 8.

Route 80 gets worse and worse. IMO every 4th car has PA tags on it and the traffic that normally was bad on Fri nights has now gotten bad on Thur too. It cuts into my happy hour time.

I worked in nyc for a very short time. The train from hackettstown is too infrequent. If you miss 1 you end up waiting like almost 2 hours. So i ended up driving to dover to catch the train. Which was a pain in the ass as well. I didn't believe it was worth the commute

I drive to Queens once a week, but I leave at 5:45 and get there around 7. If your hours are flexible and you can start and leave early, it really is not that bad.

Andover-Rt 25 on I80. Takes me 30-45 min traveling at 9:00am to Harrison, NJ (I-280). park at little man parking ($175 mo/ reserved spot) than PATH ($1.75)train 3 stops to world trade center. Get to Job around 10:30am. My hours are noon to 8pm. I can leave later if the weather is good. Any rain or snow can easily add an hour to commute time. Key is to leave after 9am, so you need flexible hours. Coming home after 8pm is also fairly swift (1hr and 5min). From Hackettstown maybe another 30min or so.
