Demi's Biscotti
I drove by main st, hackettstown and saw Maria's Biscotti. Is this new? Is it opened?Anyone know anything>>>
curious, thanks
I saw it tonight too for the first time! right near the bike shop. Sounds interesting...
It says Demis Biscotti not Marias. Its a bakery that bakes there BUT its made in a factory.
That's right- Demi's! Have you tried it yet Christine? Not sure if made in a factory sounds all that appealing, but, you never know.
thanks i guess i got the name wrong, so much for driving and reading. So i guess the dough is made in a factory and they bake them in store? I guess i'll have to try it out and will report back. All in the name of investigation lol.
Yes, please post after you try it. You can be the guinea pig! Curious also to see what else they will have there.
Demi's Biscotti Review!!
OMG!! Took my Vacuum cleaner for a walk to the repair shop (yes, my dyson) and parked by Jack's..... smelled a smell, took a look around and said oooohhhh let me go in an take a look..... WELL, all sorts of Biscotti -- I bought two small bags -- Vanilla Choc. Chip with Cherry and Vanilla Choc. Chip with Cranberry --- both YUMMY --- and while checking out the Whoopie Pies were there, teasing me (they were probably snickering to each other on such an easy target).... Needless to say, the Choc. with Vanilla filling was quickly scarfed up by yours truly.... I really wanted to try the pumpkin but didn't want to make a piggie of myself.... I'll have to go on another day and try those..... SOOO, all of you mourning the loss of that cupcake place, give these guys a try -- YUMMMYYYY...... BTW, their CC machine is not up and running yet, so bring cash.....
Thanks for the update, trekster! I am mourning the loss of the cupcake place, so I will definitely check it out! And I will bring cash -- good tip!
I too checked out Demi's Biscotti. It looked like it wasn't fully up and running. Kind of empty.
I bought mini biscotti, large biscotti, chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies. All in the name of investigation. Well they were just okay. Honestly they pretty much all tasted the same. I guess they use a basic dough?? i would not go back. just my opinion. Try it for yourself. they were very nice people and i wish them well.
Dropped by Demi's Biscotti and Baked Goods this morning (4/23/11). The display cases were full of home-made biscotti, mini biscotti, mini cookies, whoopie pies, baklava, and Greek cookies. There is also a coffee station. I met Charles and Demi, the owners -- lovely people. They bake everything on site and are also supplying a few restaurants and high-end delis.
The biscotti (of varying flavors) are very good -- not as crunchy as I expect biscotti to be, but good. The cookies and whoopie pies do seem to be of the same batter as the biscotti -- I found them all good, though. The one exception to the batter point is the pumpkin whoopie pie -- a soft smooth cookie with creme inside, more like the whoopie I was expecting. Yum! I also had a piece of the baklava -- perfect! (By the way, I only had bites of this stuff, lol!) Charles said that they were going to be making granola bars soon, too -- especially for the bikers (the bike shop is next door). I look forward to that!
They still do not have a credit card machine, but they will take cash or checks. Charles told me that some people just took their stuff without paying, promising to come back with the money, and, so far, everyone has come back! Go, Hackettstown! 8)
The stuff is not cheap, but I would not expect it to be, given that it's a small bakery with, no doubt, high overhead. Good luck to them -- check them out, HL! I, for one, will be back.
(Hey Chris, is there any way you could change the name of this thread to the actual name of the place? Demi's Biscotti. Thanks.)
Hopeful - If you also visited your bank this morning, me and Lori are going go have to pick up our jaws from the ground. Seems like everyone from the forum visited this morning. The dough is definitely the same but it seems it's maybe baked a bit longer for the biscotti.
I got a couple of the peanut butter cookies and a couple of the double chocolate whoopie pies. Nice flavor to both, the whoopie pies are just the best thing going. Soft, not at all crunchy like a traditional biscotti might be. But I like that, and good for a cookie. Very creamy and sweet filling for the whoopie pies, compliments the cookie part very well.
Hopeful is right in that it's not really cheap, but my 4 items were still about $5. That's not expensive either for a small bakery. They *shouldn't* charge less, but then they need to be good for the $. It's a splurge so I wouldn't do it every day, but I'll definitely be going there for the occasional special treat.
Lori - I guess we came too close last weekend to miss this time. Good to see you and DS today.
GC and Lori, I did go to my bank, too, lol! Sorry I missed you guys!
I agree that it's a splurge -- a fun one! And another nice bakery in town. I like that they have different items than, say, Rico Pan or Harpers or even Stella G's. Nice bakery options for different baked good needs!
Good luck, Charles and Demi!
(BTW, can any moderator change a thread title?)
Hopeful - I'm thinking of a number from 1 to 99......
You have a good point about the types of items - the buns, cake slices, and little items from Rico Pan are different from the cinnamon swirls and linzers from Harpers and different from the scones from Stella G's. By the way, if this is gonna be like the cupcake place, will Demi's set aside a futon with your name on it?? I'm still thinking you lived there at one point... ;-)
But no, only the site owner can change the title.

It does seem that going to the bank and Demi's was the order of the day, LOL
DS & I picked up some whoopee pies, peanut butter chocolate chip and pumpkin, as well as a few small bags of biscotti. The only thing sampled so far was the PB whoopee pie, and it was scrumptious. The pie was definitely a different 'cake' than the traditional whoopee pie, and the cream was much better than the super sugary concoction that's the norm (to me it had a flavor similar to the cream cheese icing you get on really good carrot cake, but that's just my opinion), and all in all was something I'd get again. I'm not usually a fan of them, but they looked so good I had to give them a try. As you can see by the picture, DS's pie barely made it out of the parking spot!
The prices were OK. I don't plan on going often, as it's not convenient for me, and that's probably a blessing, but I don't mind paying their prices for a once in a while splurge.
I didn't see a darn thing in the store that was WW friendly, LOL, but I didn't go there looking for that either. I think next time I go I'll try the baklava. It looked yummy, but I didn't want to over-do it on my first visit.
GC - 4? Darn. And lol re: the cupcake place! Alas, there are no places to sit down at Demi's, so no naming opportunities, unless they want to make a mocha chocolate chip walnut biscotti -- now that has my name written all over it!
Lori, I agree with your point about the whoopie pie creme -- sweet, but not overly. Try the pumpkin when you have a chance. Really good. And the baklava -- I'll have to recommend they make some mini ones -- it's divine. In fact, perhaps the mini versions ARE WW friendly -- just a couple of bites' worth? I like that feature.... :o) BTW, love your DS's hat -- is that a new version or vintage? We went to HDJ just the other night -- couldn't wait for a HL visit!
See you guys soon!
Lori - We should ask next time (and you know there will be a next time), but I'm suspecting with "biscotti" the secret to the filling we're searching for is probably "ricotta". It's creamy, and it can't be just plain ricotta because it's also too sweet for that alone. But I'm thinking they use the same thing for their cannoli.
And eating before you can start the car??? GOOD BOY!! Big thumbs up on that, and the only reason I didn't do the same thing was I was driving. ;-)
So, umm, we tried the biscotti. I have to say that I like it. Usually I have to dip it in coffee or risk breaking a tooth, but this biscotti is more dental-friendly. Tasty too :)
visited for the fist time today. We were given a sample of the carrot cake whoopie pie which was delicious. We also tried the cranberry biscotti - also very yummy!
OK Does anyone have any hours for them. I went there 3 times and nothing was noted and they were closed. 1 time in am and 1 time 12pm and other time 6pm and just drove by now and they were open? BUT couldnt stop. I have a MIL who loves Biscotti but too late got her chocolate instead.
I saw Demi's for the first time this weekend and knew I could count on HL to give me the deets. Super pumped to check out the goodies. Happen to be a sweets junkie!!! Pumpkin and Peanut butter are my weaknesses so I cannot wait to try out those whoopie pies!
Demi's Biscotti's treats are all made there. Their cheesecakes, whoopie pies, biscottis, cookies, baklava and canolli are all phenomenal! I know they usually close at 4pm during the week, and later on the weekends. The staff is very friendly, and it's family owned. Demi's is still faily new, and they have not had their grand openng yet. As they become more popular, I believe their hours of operation will grow. I reccomend Demi's Biscotti to everyone I meet and see. They have a prime location and it's a welcomed change to Hackettstown! I know that I will throughly enjoy every treat they make and will continue to send business their way!
My MIL is dying for some but its not open when I leave town and closed when I get back. Are thier hours listed yet?
I'm going to have company this week, and can be sure I'll be going there at least once. A delivery can be arranged. ;-)
Oh, good GC. How kind of you! I didn't think you'd come all the way up to Liberty! ;)
I was trying to find a phone number online for this place, but came up with nothing. If anyone can find one and post it, that would be great. :)
SueR - And here I thought it was you who said they were going to be dropping by me.... ;-)
Now since I have to wait to pick up my mom, and then go and get the goodies, if you wanted to wait until I could drop them off while taking mom back home, well maybe it could work. (but when that is, your guess is as good as mine)
Thanks for the offer GC, but I'm sure I'll be out and about H-Town over the weekend, if not before that.
Good question Sandy. I hate when I get to places that are cash only and I'm not prepared. I never seem to have all that much cash on myself anymore. I just use the debit card 99% of the time.
The charges are usually too high for businesses that are just starting out. Most places put a ATM in which solves the problem. THe ATM can also be programmed by the owner for a free cup of coffee or something which takes the sting of a charge to use the machine.
Was just in and bought boscotti and whoopie pies and all very good. Why is everyone criticizing this place. There is a lot to like. Keep it up and they will go out of business, and who knows, maybe a mexican restaurant will open up or maybe it will just stayed closed and vacant. And then you will complain about Main street Hackettstown.
FF - So is that a yes or a no on credit cards at Demi's or was your statement just general? LOL
I fully understand the expense of small businesses regarding credit card fees. I don't have an issue paying cash at all, just like to know ahead of time so I'm not caught off guard.
On Sunday when I went in (again), he did say the credit card machine was coming. I actually wrote a check this time, which he happily accepted.
Pumpkin and carrot cake whoopie pies -- yum! My DS is loving the blueberry cheesecake we brought home on Mother's Day. He says we all have to keep going so it doesn't go out of business, lol!
Could we please change the name of this thread to Demi's Biscotti??? Please???
See, Hopeful....this time you said "please" and it actually worked! LOL I couldn't stand seeing the wrong name up there also. But then again, we could have just started another thread with the correct name. :)
Anyway, I tried to stop there yesterday but there was no parking right in front. (NOT a complaint, just a fact) I was in a big hurry, so I didn't have time to park elsewhere. I did notice a sign with hours on the door, but couldn't read it as I passed. Whenever I do get to stop in, I'll check the hours and post them. Unless someone else gets to do it first. (I wouldn't wait on me lol)
just went to pick some stuff for after dinner ..... will let you know what my family thinks later..
but gentlemen at store... told me that next week they will have Greek Salads and Spinach Pie...
Just LOVE Spinach Pie.... :)
sorry did see store hours posted but don't remember what they were...
Yeah, thanks, Chris!!!! Nice thread title! 8)
Greek salad and spinach pie??? Okay, this place is getting better and better, in my book!
Thanks for the update, dismom!
Hope you guys can make ti there, Christine and SueR!
Update
Pumpkin, banana ,double chocolate and carrot cake whoopie pies were delicious...my whole family loved them...
All right, now you've done it... Who bought out all the baklava??? Don't get me wrong, I bought whoopie pies instead and am entirely happy with that. But I was SSSSSOOOOO wanting to get a taste of the baklava for my mom. We went and NNNNNOOOOO more baklava.
Oh, Hopeful?? Have you been making that your new home away from home? ;-)
Come on people I need some hours!!! PLEASE!!
I left town late today and drove by there to see if they were open it was 9:15am and the lights were out! Do they have coffee to go?
Christine - I forgot about the hours, but they are clearly posted on the door. They open at 10:00, that much I definitely remember. I don't remember the closing time. As for coffee I don't know it wasn't on my mind when the temp is like 80 degrees. All that I was thinking of at the time was Main St Ice Cream to go with the biscotti.
jrsemom - What kind of mind control do you have there?? Time to change your name to popeyesmom.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B4w4lafinU
LOL GC, I don't know why my kids love fruit and veggies so much but I won't complain.
jrsemom - Too bad you don't have a nice neat explanation because I'm sure the idea is worth millions. Or at a minimum, a couple of heads of cauliflower and a bunch of broccoli rabe.
1-am? too late for my coffee......and anything else. Now have to stop by after work.
GC, the only thing I can think of is that I offer a wide variety from the start and even if they didn't like it the first few times I always offered it again and again. I also never made seperate meals. If they didn't/don't eat what I made/make, they don't eat.
I have never had spinach pie. What exactly is it? I guess I could google it but I'm trying to not hijack this thread so I figured I'd ask to try to keep it on track. :)
jrsemom - This should explain all about spinach pie, including a picture:
http://greekfood.about.com/od/pansizedpies/r/Spinach-Pie-With-Feta-Spanakopita.htm
I loooove spanakopita! I have a Greek friend who's Yaya used to make the best in the world. RIP Yaya Papadakis.
GC, I did not buy out all the baklava, and you SHOULD be upset that it was gone. It is delicious! I'm sure they'll make some more soon. 8)
Christine, I'm thinking a 4 pm closing time on weekdays, and I'm vaguely remembering 12-4 pm on Sundays; Saturday hours are obviously longer -- maybe 10-4 too?
Next time I'm by I'll take a picture of the door, lol!
Hopeful - I didn't say I didn't know *exactly* when the next batch will be available. Sorry, I don't care who you are, I'm NOT telling. I'm gonna be first in line, so don't even think about it. ;-)
Okay, GC, when the new batch of baklava is done and you've gotten your fix, I certainly hope you'll let me know! 8-)
See this is one of the reasons why I hate not being in town! I guess I will hve to wait for a Sunday off...............LOL!
I want a whoopie pie! :(
The baklava is down right sinful. I'm gonna buy the whole stinking tray in one shot, I don't care if I need a whole second job just to support my new baklava habit. Anyone who wanted baklava had sure better get it NOW!!!!
Holy crap is that good!!!
Hopeful - Race ya for it.....
GC was in such a hurry he forgot his little envelope thingy and gravatar! lol
Cbel, I think he should buy a bunch extra and pass them out at the yard sale. Well, at least to you and me!! :)
SueR: I wasn't going garage saleing tomorrow, but if GC is giving out goodies, I'll see you there. (Or one of us could keep him occupied while the other.......................)
Cbel..count me in as a partner in this crime!! GC...save one for me too!!!!! I'm going yard saling tomorrow if I can get away too. By the way, The Iris plants have buds on that you gave me and the poppies about ready to open up.
SueR - Yeah, sure, we'll just say it was being in a hurray, yeah, that's the ticket.
cbel - Sure, I'll save you something. But I can't promise on the baklava, I may just have to eat the whole tray. And what I don't eat mom is gonna finish, and she usually thinks it's too sweet. There's always room for baklava... So there might be some mini-biscotti around just in case the baklava disappears into a black hole. ;-)
joyful - Glad to hear about the iris. Most of my poppies are doing OK, but I don't think they'll bloom this year. The bleeding heart drooped for a while but looks like it's starting to pick up. Besides the real green thumb is here now and she can grow anything anywhere.
My only complain so far is the price of a cheese cake $18.00? And its on the small size. BUT those whoopie pies OMG!
Give the place a chance. It looks great and from what I hear, they DO make their food on premises.
Christine, What's with the negativity? "Hours Please ... Hours ... $18.00 Cheese cake"
What's with your comment "BUT made in a factory"? Are you sure about that? From what I hear ... they make everything in house. They just opened, give them a chance. You want them to succeed, don't you?
Be happy people, there's a nice new business on Main St! Be positive and embrace it, don't bash and belittle it. geeeeeeez!
I will shop there frequently. I want that place to succeed!
foodgal - I think you're misinterpreting some simple questions as negativity. There are a load of positives posted about the place.
Get a grip foodgal!
The original application for this place was for bread and then it was changed so move on....SECOND I am allowed to give my opinion did you NOT READ what I said, if not go back!
I am a business owner and I unforrtunately can't get there during most of his hours BUT I did last Saturday and was very pleased with his Whoopie pies. I am on a limited buidget so its not something I can do all the time. I PERSONALLY think $18 for a small cheesecake is alot of money but for others it m ay not be good for them! IMO!!!
You obviously did not read all the positive comments on this thread and many others so before you open your mouth and target me read thru the thread the corrrect way!

Congratulations on Demi's Biscotti Grand Opening today. I stopped by and tried some items along with picking up some Whoopie Pies to share later.
I wish them the best of luck with their store.
foodgal, what forum are you reading? I think they have been getting some awesome and rave reviews on this one. They're getting free advertising by word of mouth and that says a lot. I think they have gotten a very good welcome here and judging by comments, people are loving it there.
People ARE embracing the place, so I am baffled where you're seeing negativity. I didn't see Christine bash them, either, just was commenting on the price of a cheesecake. I think they have gotten an overwhelming positive attitude. Go back and read Christine drooling over their whoopie pies. LOL.

Another day, another baklava.
And a bag of mini biscotti. And some whoopie pies. And a double chocolate biscotti thrown in the deal.
Did anybody say Weight Watchers?? Good. I didn't think so. ;-)
I just stopped by also and got some whoopie pies for my friend and I to eat tomorrow while at the Music Fest! CHOCOLATE ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I just hope they last! HEHEHEHE!!!!
Congrats on the grand opening today!
coooookie - No. They're not a general all purpose bakery, but more of a specialized shop including Greek specialties besides the biscotti. If you want a cake, try either Harpers or Rico Pan.
And here I thought it was just me and Hopeful that cleared the place out... I got my share mind you, and I had my choice, but I wasn't the one to come along right after that and clear out all the whoopie pies!!!
I guess having that credit card machine now doesn't hurt. ;-)
Is that place still open? Every time I pass there during the week between 11am-12pm or so they are closed!
I was there Thursday. Took my dad to get his hair cut at jacks and wandered in. Grabbed two single biscotti, coconut and a pistachio cranberry chocolate chip for 1.50 each. Very good. Not much was in the cases. Some whoopee pies. The sign said summer hours and I didn't see the times but it only listed Thursday Friday and Saturday. I don't think Sunday was listed but I may be wrong
I went there twice and they were closed also......summer hours were cut but I dont remember the hours sorry. :)
They've never been open Sundays, and always only opened at 10:00AM normal hours. For the summer, they're closed Wed and only open until 4:00PM the days they're open.
SueR - Maybe you only go by on Wed? ;-) In any case, if you just let me know I could get you anything you wanted. I'm there often enough. ;-)
Thanks for the offer GC! I may take you up on it soon. :)
BTW, I know in the past you've mentioned they were going to make spinach pies. Do they have them yet? And if so, how are they?
SueR - Seriously feel free to take me up on it, just email me what you want. As for the spinach pie, ask me off line or when ever we see each other in person next.
Wednesdays? That makes sense thats wehn I am usually off also.....for the life of me I couldnt remember.m LOL MS brain!
Are they open Monday's ? I sure hope so. Do they have an assortment of things made or should I have pre-ordered?
Any follow-ups for Demi's?
I went a week or two ago, around 1pm, and there was nothing in the store except some packaged biscotti. I asked if he sells spinach pie, and his reaction was strange -- he said something to the effect that it's only once in a blue moon. I wanted to try the whoopie pies but he didn't have any, or any baklava. Only biscotti! I asked if he was going to have whoopie pies later, and he said to come back in 3 hours!
How can he expect to be successful if he has nothing to sell?
Kind of disappointed!
Oh happy girl, you have to make it back for the Whoopie Pies..they are delicious. Someone on this forum was kind enough to bring some to breakfast when we were celebrating a HL birthday. It was my first time trying them and I was hooked! Someone we know and love on this forum can probably tell you the best time to get there.
Whoopie pies are amazing and he has alot in the morning but they are so fresh and he sells out. He use to give out free coffee so I am shocked he does not anymore.
happy girl - The spinach pie reaction was kind of my fault. I know a lot of people really wanted it, and I mentioned they were going to give it a try. But they just can't do everything and fit it into the schedule. So now it's kind of like a rumor I started...
The regular packaged biscotti and the bags are what their business is, that's the main stay product so what they have the most of. The baklava is extremely time consuming so they only make that once in a while. The whoopie pies are so exceptional, they sell out about as fast as they can make them. I'm not big on canoli but they sell as fast. Plus here and there some nut case walks in and says he's there "for the whoopie pies". Charlie nicely, but quizzically, asks which ones and I say, WAIT - no, no, no, [backspace] [backspace] [backspace] *the nut case* says "the whoopie pies....all of them". ;-)
The real issue has been the "summer hours" that they had to cut back to. I'm sure hoping they go back soon to "I need my whoopie pie fix hours". But at least they have the credit card machine humming away. Heaven knows that comes in handy.
Signed

Calico I have to refrain from going on those threads "National _______________Day" My diet keeps telling me no don't go into that thread! I always end up craving whatever it is! LOL!
Christine - Funny thing is....I never have any of those things I post in the National _______ Day threads. LOL
But if it's National Beer Day......
Calico - Two things. First, after some research "National Whoopie Pie Day" is June 25th. Second, I have a simple solution so none of us freak - "stockpile". I've started already for next year.
GC - I'm seeing June 26th, but that just might be in Maine. Apparently, it's a big deal up there.
OK, now I understand.

I'm on main street a lot and have been paying attention to Demi's. Charlie is a super super nice guy but I agree that his choices on hours and inventory aren't exactly going to help him succeed. I too stopped in very recently and there was only Biscotti. As I understand it, they make and sell treats on a larger scale most of the week but why attempt to open a store front if it's closed 4 days out of the week?
They need to keep those cases stocked and just hire a young guy or something to work when they can't be there. They aren't making any money being closed all the time! People are going to give up on shopping there if it's always closed and when they are open, have no selection. . .
Agreed WS, frustrating especially because he does have a great product with those whoopie pies and they're not something carried anywhere else (at least like his, with that flavor assortment and delicious cream in the middle). You're not going to want to go if you always are afraid he's going to be closed or worse, no whoopie pies.
OMG..... Hey Demi - time to get out of Hackettstown!!! They have no idea about quality. So far, you rank #1. Come to NYC - I have a perfect spot for your bakery! You will make a fortune! See you soon! - MVP NY
????????????
Am I the only one confused about the previous post?
Is Demi's out of business, or is Maria MVP trying to run them out of town?
"happy girl" - I do understand your confusion. But the answer is "none of the above". It's not out of business. And Maria is actually giving them a big compliment by saying "we're not worthy". ;-)
I wouldn't worry though, I don't think they're moving any time soon. Not to mention, Oh, yes, we're worthy!!!
I finally made it to Demi's Biscotti today. With my work hours and their limited hours it wasn't easy getting there. I was looking for some goodies to add to a gift basket for my boss. After reading on this thread about all of the yummy treats (whoopie pies, baklava, cheesecake, spinach pie, & of course biscotti) I was excited to try some myself.
The owner of the store was in there and he was very nice to talk to. They didn't have much product AT ALL. A few bags of packaged biscotti along with a few glass jars of assorted biscotti and that's it! I asked him about the other things and he said they no longer sell anything BUT biscotti. I said that's too bad because I have only heard good things about your whoopie pies, etc... He only responded with "We will only focus on biscotti now"
I never did get to try it so I can't give any review, but he did say they were doing very well! That's good to hear, I just wish he had more to offer.
WOW! He just lost alot of customers. I LOVED his whoopie pies BUT everytime i went his hours were always changed. My schedule never worked out when I was there he was closed. I wrote down his hours so I could remember and went back duirng them and they were changed again.
Cookie Crumb productions makes a great whoopie pie too..not sure of flavors or variety or if you have to order them, but worth a try. I had a pumpkin one that was terrific.
They only sell some bags of biscotti ..............
They have limited hours of operation ...............
I hesitate to write what I think of this.
I went the other day only to find they were closed. :( Oh well. This time of year they would be doing great business if they were open. I guess they are doing well enough to only be open 6 hours a week????
I'm glad you posted this JRT. We were also were fans of the whoopie pies and that would have been our reason for returning. Another customer lost...
Cookie Crumb has 2 flavors of woopie pies at the moment - gingerbread and chocolate. They said that they always sell chocolate and change the other flavor for seasonal.
Their shortbread is to die for! OMG that is the best.
I just picked up several gift boxes of their cookies for office gifts, last weekend. She does make extras (outside of the orders) to sell in the shop. So, I am sure that she has some available for your gift basket.
If Demi's Biscotti is limiting production to the Biscotti, it must be doing very well for them. Sometimes it is best to concentrate on the product that you can do well and keep up with demand.
USAFirst - Their retail hours are Thurs to Sat 10:00 - 4:00.
http://www.demisbiscotti.com/
Yes, I had the same conversation about stopping the whoopie pies with Charlie. If one of the biggest buyers of them including having once bought the entire stock out at one shot can't convince him, it's not going to happen. He wouldn't even promise to make them on special order. If you look back over this thread and the other one about their opening, there has been a bunch of talk about the whole situation. Despite the idea that if they were just open more hours they'd make a killing, folks just aren't walking in on a regular basis. Charlie has said ones that do have sometimes bought quite a lot, but it's so sporadic and unpredictable that they have an issue with trying to keep things fresh and in stock. Because their business is mostly wholesale, the only way to keep retail going is to make the same products for both wholesale and retail.
All the Greek items (other than baklava) were one time experiments anyway and the cheesecakes were similar. (and not cheap if they spoiled) So they decided to make more biscotti flavors instead of a wider range of products. I've seen the whoopie pies at Cookie Crumb too, which was another issue that all of a sudden every place started to have them. Even if Demi's are the best, too much competition. So it is what it is.
I too loved the Whoopie Pies, in August I was going to a Summer BBQ party, and I went in and nearly bought the place out of what was in the case. I also bought biscotti, enjoyed the variety to bring to the party. I nearly felt bad if any other customers went in looking for these delicious pies. I too am very sad that I can no longer get them from Demi's. I wish him much success with the biscotti
I stopped by today to pick up some biscotti. They have a brand new flavor, chocolate peanut butter, I was one of the first to try it. It's pretty tasty, kind of like a chocolate peanut butter brownie with some nuts sprinkled in. It's not as dense or heavy as a brownie, I think it is probably made with cocoa powder and because of the peanut butter is a bit more on the salty side of the salty-sweet taste.
I stopped in today to pick up some biscotti for Christmas gifts and got a free sample. OMG! That stuff is wonderful! And Charlie is so personable. For me, I'm glad he's only open three days. Otherwise I'd be there more than is good for me.
Just spent Christmas evening at my sisters house and some one happened to bring over a beautiful wrap of Demi's Biscotti to the dessert table, and might i say they were A HIT! They were almost completely gone when i finally made my way over there that i only got to taste their Cranberry Almond White Chocolate. And OMG i was craving biscottis for the rest of the night. What i like about Demi's is their Biscotti's taste FRESH and leave a good taste in your mouth even after you've eaten it, unlike that store bought CRAP you find in the supermarket isles. I'm having a New Years Party soon with my all Italian family ( you know how those get) LOL. Anyone know if they cater????
CaRmela19 - They don't really cater as in they'll send someone to deliver to your event. But they most certainly have some nice platters of biscotti assortments available. They were exceptionally generous in donating such a platter to our fundraiser. Just call ahead of time, and Charlie will take care of you like family. ;-)
I feel like the TV ad for the lottery where the guy makes an announcement and a whole stadium full of people disappear:
The
Whoopie
pies
are
BBBBBBBBaaaaaaaccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whoopie pies.
Seriously.
you need to try his new Double Chocolate Fudge Brownies, he just put them out today :)
I also have it on good authority that they've made it so their wholesale work is much more steady and regular. That means they now have regular and longer hours for their retail side.
Darn you to heck, GC. This thread was tucked way down somewhere, and you had go and bump it up. Well, now I'm going to have to go over there. ;-)
Cbel: I have a confession to make...I was forced" into having one of GC's whoopi pies from Demi's tonight.... OMG...It was worth two extra weeks of Weight Watchers...!
Joyful: For me, it's like Lay's potato chips. I can't have just one, but I'm glad you enjoyed yours.
GC, I know you'll make fun of me, but I have to admit, I've NEVER in my life had a whoopie pie:). What exactly is it, anyway?
colette: I know GC will answer you, but you must know that they are to die for.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whoopie_pie

colette - two cookies with filling. In their case they make a moist kind of biscotti type cookie and cream cheese style filling.
All ye weight watchers who enter, abandon hope here.
easy going guy - Must have been in the morning because some jackwagon bought all the van choc chip in the afternoon. ;-)

Oh wait, I bought mine yesterday, but there some in the case today. But the brownie was the choice today
Hmmm, maybe we'll just have to try them out this weekend. . . they look awfully rich, though! cbel - you can really eat more than one??!
collete: No, I can't ever eat a whole one at one time. BUT, I can cut them in little pieces and eat them all day long.
So, I don't go near Demi's.
I gave up dinner after eating mine, now i need a cup of coffee, just might have to take a walk tomorrow morning
OK I know you are all kidding because I can eat a whole one after a good lowfat meal.
;)
well im going to buy another one tomorrow if there are any left, then have lunch at the deli
I haven't had one in a long time but from what remember they are quite small (compared to original Whoopie Pies). Aren't the chocolate chip ones about the size of a Chips Ahoy cookie? I think some of the other flavors were a little bit bigger, but not a lot. So to me, eating a "whole" one doesn't seem like a big deal. Especially when they are so damn good! :)
GC, i would but i dont like vegetarian only, so i guess the Deli wins tomorrow, its good there now, then ill eat my desert the brownie
these pies are filling and made with good product, not like you buy in a supermarket
easy going guy - I only said veg because of the low fat content. If you want beef masaman simmered in coconut milk, they have that too. Or have a whopping big pastrami on rye at the deli, it's good either way,
SueR - they're smaller in diameter, but they're also quite a bit thicker. All I know is if we're worried about the right name or the right size or how many calories, then we might as well pack up and go how right off the bat anyway.
About 5 thumbs up for the whoopie pies at Demi's. I tried one for the first time this past week. Wow. Unbelievable.
wonder if he has fresh baked Chocolate Chip Cookies today, just might have to stop in this morning
Make it a multi-stop morning - HL Shop Local shopping at H-Town Pet begins today. Browse the Trading Post, check out a new bike at Marty's, have a sandwich at C&L, make a day of it.
New hours are 9:00 - 6:00 every day except Monday and Sunday. Not sure what time on Wed but I was there and it was open. So I guess it just depends on when you hit it.

Just when you think it's safe to go back in the water....
OK, so the brownie of the day is peanut butter fudge. And the fudge is as fudge as fudge gets. And the brownie is moist and thick as any brownie should be.
Then what do you spring on me?? "Oreo Cheesecake". WTF?? Twist my arm.
The first bite is all cheesecake and has just the right things in it. So creamy, so vanilla, so right, so wrong, so right, so wrong. And not the too light baked kind of fluffy nothing, and the not too heavy, too runny unbaked all cream cheese and nothing else either. And the second bite is all Oreo crusty goodness. I hate you, I love you, I hate you, I love you, WTF??? Did you like drench the oreo crumbs in 5 lbs of butter and meld it all together? That's inhuman. There's a drug in there, I swear. Plain cheesecake would be terrific. Oreo Cheesecake is "I'll race you there, out of my way, don't even *^&^ #!( thing about beating me there to buy the whole thing!!". I dumped my ideas about what's for lunch and had this instead. Not even a close comparison of what I was thinking of.
We're just so not worthy. I've bought an entire display case of whoppie pies before. Twice. This is the best thing yet. Seriously. I'm sure the people before me loved the baklava, it's excellent. But Oreo Cheesecake has topped the untoppable. And you now buy it by the slice?? If Charlie and Demi come up with anything better than this, people are going to be in the psych hospital. ;-)
OMG that looks soooo good! I was there Wed twice once about 2pm and then went by again at 5 still closed!!!
A little advice.....if your suppose to be open be open unless of course some kind of emergency happened. This has happened to me trying to come there at least 6 times already!
Thanks......I really like your whoopie pies.
Thanks to GC...this thread is off limits to me forever more. 6th week into Weight Watchers and he writes the above post about Demi's Oreo Cheesecake...I already feel myself weakening.
GC: Stop! You're killing me. Tuesday..Demi's for me, bubbles for Lovey.
BTW, is the cheesecake all gone or do you have a smidgen left to bring to breakfast? No, right?
cbel - Not even close to some left over. If there was an atom left of it, I found a way to track it down and inhale it. Sorry. Well, not really. ;-)
Cheese Cake, Brownies, Whoopie pies, gosh, so much for having dinner tonight
riverat - Check the posts above. Colette asked the same thing, cbel posted a Wikipedia link, and I posted a picture.
I brought my car to Auto Perfection last week for a detail (they did an amazing job!) and walked to Demi's to "try" some biscotti. I had to try Demi's after seeing the reviews on here. Charlie was so nice and there was a good assortment to choose from. I came home with various biscotti, whoopie pies, a brownie and 2 slices of oreo cheesecake.
Everything was so good. All the biscotti and whoopie pies I brought home were devoured accompanied by cave man like grunts from my boyfriend and his friends. The peanut butter brownie is not your standard chewy cake brownie. This was rich, like fudge and with the peanut butter, not too sweet, just perfect. And the oreo cheesecake...let's just say next time if there is a whole one when I stop in, I am not leaving it behind.
Saw their new sign in the window so I stopped by demi's yesterday and tried their gluten free biscotti... OMG HEAVEN....the best ever. Will be back tomorrow to try their almond crisp!! thanks for making such a great product!
How much nicer can people be than to be on announced holiday (glad the trip to Florida was everything you wanted it to be and more), yet to open up so I can get my brownie fix and goodies to put out at the yard sale.
Thanks! Thanks! And thanks some more!
I have been eager to go to Demi's to try some sweet sensations but they close so early during the week that I can never get there. Other than Saturdays, it might be nice to have hours for working folks during the week. I usually drive by around 5:30 and have thought many times how nice it would be to go in but realize you are closed.
Jazzykatt - The forum asked the same thing of Harpers, they opened late, and no one came. It won't hurt to ask Charlie, but how early in the morning do you leave for work?
I brought the coconut white chocolate to a relative's for Easter - we all thought that they were very good.
GC - I pass by Demi's around 8:15 in the morning and again at 5:30. I understand if its not profitable to stay open later during the week but you would think that they would lentgthen their hours on Saturdays. With my schedule, I will never get a chance to go in there.
