Hackettstown Wide Yard Sale 2011
I did a search and didn't find an answer. When is the yard sale for 2011? I have tons of stuff to sell.
The answer, buried in the thread, is May 14-15. Not only will this conflict with Centenary's graduation but it will also conflict with the Relay for Life of Greater Hackettstown, which will be up at Field of Dreams, 5/13-14. I will be there all night, and sleeping the next day, so I probably won't be able to host a sale. But maybe I'll walk around later on Saturday or Sunday.
Good luck everyone!
Letters from HCCP went out last week to previous participants.
The letter is up on the town web site here:
http://www.hackettstown.net/doc/2011-hccp-town-wide-yard-sale.doc
woooohoooo...htown yard sales. i cant wait. gotta start buyin stuff for the apartment me nd my fiance are getting. always a good time to find stuff. i cant remember a year i havent bought a bunch of stuff.
Hopeful!! I'll see you at Relay then!!
So much for selling all the stuff I had purged from the kids' --- maybe Sunday I'll get inspired!
Trekster, see you at the Relay! Team Jazzercise will be warming up the crowd at the 6 pm start as well as stretching at midnight and doing the final cooldown at 6 am!
Maybe we should do a new thread on the Relay!
Enjoy the yard sale, everyone!
ohhhh you're the Jazzercise bunch --- what an enthusiastic bunch!
It turns out a friend of mine is going to help me out with our yard sale --- I'm working on the Ziploc bag approach --- I'm going to have stuff in Bags and sorted by price in boxes --- hopefully it'll be easy for her to manage and if I'm there it won't involve too much brain power!
Trekster - My mom does the arranging for my sale every year, and boxes with each price is what she does. I usually have only a few things but bigger ticket items so those are easy to price individually.
Allamuchy's PTO yard sale is the same day so hopefully we'll have lots of great opportunities for some good deals! :) I think their's ends by 2 pm though so I'll have to start there first.
In yard sale terms 2PM is like midnight. There's plenty of time to go anywhere you'd like, particularly when the early birds start in at 6:30...
If anyone has anything left over and would like to donate it to the Hackettstown PTA please let me know. We are doing a spring clothing drive. We accept clothes, shoes, linens, toys and STUFFED ANIMALS! I can arrange to pick up or you can drop it off at Willow Grove, Hatchery Hill or HMS starting May 16th.
Perhaps folks are not aware. The Town Wide Yard Sale is the only fundraising event of the Hackettstown Committee for Crime Prevention. The funds received are used for the DARE program in the schools and the Teen Night Pool Parties at the Hackettstown Pool. Last summer we had eight (8) weekly pool parties each with over 100 kids attending. If you received a flyer and had not paricipated (or donated) to the yard sale it may be because you had signed up your son/daughter for the Teen Nights. Participation in the yard sale is totally optional, but we hope donatons can still be made for your kids this summer.
I really wanted to participate in the yard sale, but alas, you picked a weekend when
many, many colleges have graduation ceremonies ... including my children. I have to
attend these, out of state. Maybe next year the town would consider a date, other
than graduation weekend.
Also conflicting with the Waterloo Music Festival. Obviously a very bad choice of dates!
Do people really seriously think H'town should check a calendar of local events prior to scheduling the yard sale? Geez, there is something going on every weekend this time of year.
Also, you can easily yard sale in the morning and go to the music festival later. Not really that much of a conflict IMO.
The choices were to conflict with your choice of - Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, Spring Festival, Mothers Day, Waterloo Music Festival, Memorial Day. Long Valley chose Spring Festival and they got a third as many participants as last year, and not many people going out either. That seems like a worse choice than Waterloo Music Festival where most people are done by 11:00 AM and can easily do both. Besides there's always Sunday. College Graduations you just can't get around.
I wouldn't think the line up of dates for next year is going to be such an issue with Easter moving.
We would love to participate as a seller as well, but we are not in the town 'proper', although our mailing address is Hackettstown & we shop & dine there. We've been cleaning out our house & filled a 30-yard dumpster, placing only a few items at the curb for free - which all went within 24 hours. Just THINK of all the STUFF people could have picked through at our house! Oh well.
There is no reason you can't have a yard sale the same day and not be in the town 'proper'. The only thing they won't do is list the address on the map.
Sandra Dee. I am in the same situation as you. Just over the Hackettstown Line. Did not realize that I could not participate and sent a check into the Townwide Sale one year only to have it returned saying I could not participate. Was going to send the check back as a donation but changed my mind.. Yes, we could still participate...anyone can have a sale whenever they want but just cannot be on the Hackettstown Townwide Sale map.
oh no - the weather (if you can trust the report) shows rain Saturday and Sunday the 14th and 15th - The HCCP does not mention anything about a rain date - Hopefully the weather will be clear and mild.
That is a problem too, in having the sale earlier in the year - the weather - rain or cold - neither are fun for having a garage sale or shopping at garage sales
Hoping for good weather, I've always participated but never went to them. Have an afternoon commitment but will get out early to "shop". Anyone here having one? What are you selling? Trying to plan my strategy, LOL.
JennyMc - There is no rain date, it's rain or shine. On iffy weekends we've put everything inside the garage.
Bessie - Keep watching the classifieds here, they're sure to start popping up during the week. The one thing I can guarantee is that my mom will be selling teapots. She has so many she could sell them until the day she dies and not be done yet. ;-)
Unfortunately GC, the garage has not been built to hold all my garage sale treasures! I'll pray for sun and good weather.
JennyMc - A delivery from BlueRidge and 100 Amish can fix that by end of day tomorrow. ;-)
Does anybody know specific locations where people can pick up a map ? I have several friends who would like to pick one up.
Here is a PDF of the Map and Address list re-sized to fit on 8.5" x 11" so you can print them.

Thank you for the PDF.
The map being used for the yard sale has a minor error. W. Baldwin Street does not connect through to Canal Way. Google Maps show it correctly. The end of W. Baldwin is a private driveway. My family lives over there and every year during the yard sale they see cars turning around because they think that they can drive through to the development.
I'm not on the map, but plan on having some items out. Last minute decision, 201 East Valley View
Nosila - we keep watching the predictions and it's maddening. They keep going back and forth between like 60-70% chance and then 20-30% and back and forth. We need a Bryan custom forecast. ;-)
I hope people still have it evenn if it is raining. One year we went and no one opened. Isnt that what garages are for?
Yeah, I really need to go out and look for more props for photos so hopefully the rain holds off...not that I have any idea what I'm looking for but no one steal the stuff I want :)
From the forecast I just looked at, the key is to go *EARLY*.
If we're lucky any light showers won't even begin until 11:00-noon.
Garage sale at 21 Rolling Rapids Ct....brook hollow development opposite the hospital.
Tons of stuff, mirror, paintings, toys, clothes, sofa set, white with floral pattern, dining set, & lots more!!
So come on over --- Sunday only from 9:00am-3:00pm.
900 East Prospect Street! make sure you stop by we have a big variety of stuff, and a lot of it!
It said the Allamuchy PTO Sale is from 9 am to 2 pm. They also said if it rains, they will hold it inside the school which I think is a great idea.
Got a few good deals at the townwide slaes today! Saw many HL'ers!
Oh BTW I am in love with Whoopie pies!!! Got to Demis also!
My neighbor and I did a "last minute" sale on Ferris place, I put out a lot of motorcycle riding gear, men and women's good quality jackets, helmets, chaps, helmet intercom, xl cover, etc. retail value around $1800.00
Will try again for awhile Sunday morning. Have to sell, cheap.
The best buy at Townwide Yard Sales today for me was a placque that reads :
Show Me a Cow who won't give milk and I'll show you a udder failure!" Plan to put that out in the yard by Bessie..
Haha, I love that joyful! BTW, I saw your Bessie today. I'll tell you about it tomorrow.
I agree not as many as last year :(
Got some cute things to use in my practice photo shoots
Met a lot of interesting people at our sale today BUT the best line was from a gentlemen that said (after seeing a set of encyclopedias that we were selling) that he sold his set of encyclopedias when he got married because he didn't need them anymore because his wife knew everything!!!!!! That moment was worth the days and hours that I worked to pull today off. Thank you, sir. I will definitely use that line again and will give you credit for it!! Memorable......
I'm glad the rain wasn't as big a deal as it could have been. I made over $75 and saw a jackwagon or two. ;-)
Hey....I thought this town wide garage sale was scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday?!?!?! We are out at 111 Carter Terrace (College View section) waiting for another day of interesting people, stories and making some $$$$, Where is everybody?????
Same here at 319 West Baldwin St. All set up with our sale and noooooo customers. Mom is selling old books, knick knacks, some antiques, x-mas items and clothes. I have tons of baby boy and girl clothes, toys and gear.
A Jo - good to know you have kid stuff. Am looking for little tykes outdoorsy things so hopefully when kiddo gets up we'll head dow that way...
It's all about the advertising - If people are not aware of the sales, unfortunately they won't bee looking for them - I just passed through Belvidere and saw a large sign with the dates of their Townwide yards sales- now I know about it as I don't always listen to WRNJ and I hardly ever read the newspaper. - A few signs placed around Hackettstown could have helped to get the message out - Some signs to announce the fund raising aspect and other signs to announce the actual sales - put up way prior to the sales so people see it over and over and are reminded to get their $10 in to the HCCP to get their address on the map and people passing through town get reminded over and over, oh, that is the weekend of the sales -
How about it HCCP?
I was just thinking about that the other day. Cant wait! Missed it last year - went camping that weekend. Hopefully can enjoy it this year. Thats a day I get to spend the whole day with my daughter. She loves it too.
My mom has been asking the same question since Christmas. And I've been collecting here stuff in my garage for just as long. ;-)
They usually do not decide on the date until March. Mailers to the prior participants have not gone out that I have gotten anyway.
joyful - it skips around every year, and has been held any where from the second weekend in April to sometime in May.
