Broken Electronics Hunt
My company is learning how to fix broken consumer electronic items like PS2/PS3, XBox/XBox 360,
iPhone, iPod, Blackberry and WinMo PDAs. If anyone has a broken one of these that would be able to part with them, please let me know. You might even get a fixed unit back if we can repair it!!
Mike if you want any tips on fixing the xbox360 (which break often) my fiancé is a professional lol he watched a you tube video and has fixed his and like 10 of his friends b.c they all overheat from playing call of duty .......... Ill ask around and see if anyone has broken stuff for you
Mike, I think we have a broken PS2. Is this like a volunteer service while you train, lol? Either way, if I'm right about it being broken, I'll give you a crack at it! 8)
I've known several areas where like Vo Tech schools need items to be fixed for the students. If it's like that, I've got some things like audio components and routers that could be worked on. Not sure if those items are possible or not. I have to say, I don't remember this thread at the time. We do need to remember this is 6 months out now. ;-)
You posted this one day late as I just threw my xbox360 in the garbage. I did the "x clamp" fix because of error code 2201. Fixed that code and got a different RROD code. Threw it in the dumpster and bought a new Slim. The new ones' come with a vented top and a fan directly on the CPU/GPU that loves to overheat in the old ones'.
I got an Xbox 360 that suffered red ring of death out of warranty. I will give mine up and take the chance on having a second working unit. Its just sitting in closet now. Email and we can work it out.
the newer xbox 360 's don;t have to worry about the 'red ring of death'
correct?
are you guys saying that certain games cause overheating in these units?
Steve-O, I've been fixing overheating white 360's for ages. I'm up to about a 90% success rate. My last one was a launch box that was already sent back to MS...which is why it was throwing up numerous codes. Junked it.
BrotherDog, the newer ones are much more reliable due to a complete design change both on the motherboard and even the case. The new cases have vents and the CPU/GPU is now one chip. The old ones had no vents and a separate GPU. Microsoft admitted a problem and the word on the street is that every.single.360 original 360 (ie-not the 'Slim') will eventually die. Some due to the X clamps warping the PCB and others for a myriad of reasons.
The newer games like Call of Duty and even GTAIV are pushing these machines to their limits and are heating them up like crazy. Even my new 360 will get really. really. hot after an hour or so. Thankfully Microsoft now has the 360 tell you to shut it down because it's getting hot so you wont' RROD it. Google 'Slim RROD' (even though it's just a dot now lol) and you'll see that the new 360's still break, just not nearly as often.
