quick help to find a rental!
Hi Hackettstown posters,
I have lurked around here a little bit and there seems to be lots of friendly, knowledgeable people here! My family and I are moving to Long Valley soon from NY, but are not closing on our house in time for school to start. We really want to get our shy 1st grader in there on the first day, so we are frantically trying to find a short term (1 - 1.5 mo) rental in the Flocktown-Kossmann school district. The school secretary told us that Hastings Square (is that right) might have something? But we don't know how to find a place there... I know is is mostly family-owned, but does anyone know if they have a managment company for rentals? Or any othersuggestions for townhomes or apts (esp if they allow pets!)
Thanks so much in advance for help!
Jen Schwartz
Jen-
I believe if you show the contract of sale on the home to the school, they will allow your daughter to start attending school before you close.
Hastings Square is very difficult to find a rental as they are all privately owned and very rarely come up for rent. If you were lucky enough to find one you would probably have to sign a long term lease.
There are "Extended Stay" hotels within 15 minutes of Long Valley that you could live in for the time being.
Hope this helps and good luck!
I think Peggy's suggestion is a good one. Since it's so short-term, you might be better of staying at a hotel-type set up rather than ripping your hair out trying to find a short-term apartment rental. Might not be the most ideal solution but I think it's a good compromise to ensure your 1st grader in to school asap.
Please call some realtors in the area as well. They may be aware of a house on the market that is not moving in the area that they would agree to the short term rental. I see that there are some vacant homes in the area that are in that school district when I looked on line a month ago
Good luck - we do understand how important it is to help the little ones adjust to a new school.
Also, I will say that the teachers are wonderful at making sure that the kids feel at home whether they start on the first day or the month after!
I would be willing to bet that the school with work with you. An extended stay would work but not sure about the pet. Kossman is a great school. Good Luck.
OP here. Thanks so much for the suggestions. I think you're right about the extended stay, I was just dreading the living in the "hotel atmosphere" for 2 weeks (or more if we decide to get some messy work done on the house before moving in).
And we are able to start her on Day 1 after showing the house contract... at the cost of $68/day for non-resident tuition :( which is why I thought it would be more economical all-around if we could find a rental in the school district.
Thanks for taking the time to respond! Hope to "see " you around more once we move in.
Jen - I think I can help you! I know of an apartment in Long Valley that is available immediately. It is extremely clean and well kept and located in the lower level of a beautiful newer home in Long Valley. The owners are about the nicest people you will ever meet! They only rent it out occassionaly and I know it's empty so I called them when I read your post and they are happy to rent it to you monthly for as long as you need. If you are interested send me a private message and I will give you the details.
