little pleasures
what are yours?
you have a secret stash of chocolate?
a special coffee or tea that maybe is pricier than most that you spoil yourself with?
and maybe if you cant think of any, just think if for just one time, you were alone in your house, so peaceful, just you and your favorite things, maybe a great movie? what would you be doing/eating/drinking/reading/watching? what floats your boat?
Clean house, fire in the fireplace, glass of wine and a good book.
Right now...
Clean house- no
fire-no thank you
wine - not tonight
good book- Under the Dome by Stephen King, but it will have to wait 'til the house is clean :-)
There are these special candies that I treat myself to when I'm on vacation in Ocean City, MD....they are called Caramellows. Homemade marshmallows dipped in homemade, buttery caramel. I only buy 1/4 pound and let myself have one per day until they're gone. I have to admit that I hid them from the kids this year!
I found a new cleaning woman. She came yesterday. My apartment is spotless and I am in heaven. As God is my witness (maybe you don't know Scarlett O'Hara), I will never clean my apartment again!
Yankee Candles i love them i love the scents i love the warm feeling it brings to a room i have about 20 ish
A night with the house clean, yankee candles burning, hanging with the puppies, laying on my bed watching a movie with windows open :)
I love to try any kind of hot pasta sauce, there are so many now. I try to wait for them to go on sale because I can't bring myself to pay $7.99 or $8.99 a jar. I'm the only one in my house that eats the hot sauce so it's one of my little indulgences. When it gets colder, I love to treat myself to loose tea. I like the stronger black teas, English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast and any others someone might like to suggest. I don't like Earl Grey or flavored teas and God forbid, herbals.
oh i can relate to the candles and the beer, i need a stock of candles at all times, its also the perfect gift for any woman :) and beer how i love it so, miller lite :)
they should make a peanut butter oreo frozen ice cream treat mmmm
and bessie- my hubbie has a hot sauce addiction haha, he treats himself to a new kind every now and then.
Mom of 1&1-omg those sounds AMAZINg- i know this wouldnt even come close but the caramel fiber one bar are really good!
Icicle, does he have a favorite? I always go back to the Victoria, but the DelGrosso's is pretty good too! There are so many new ones out there now, but pricey! I used to complain about the Victoria when it was $3.99, then $4.99. I think it's $5.99 now but it does go on sale from time to time. A lot of the new ones are $7.00 and up.
I have to admit, although I love my Rolling Rock, I did have a good time drinking tons of $2 Coors Original while in Colorado. Nothing like a nice banquet beer on tap.....mmmmm :)
Bessie, no he doesnt he just picks them up as they look interesting, how much does the taste vary on those things anyways? He puts hot sauce on as much as he can get away with! in fact sometimes i tell him he ruined the dinner i cooked him with it hahaha
catlady-Dover Dairy Maid on 46 makes a soft pumpkin flavor in the fall and it is the most amazing pumpkin ice cream ive ever had!!!
Thanks for the info!! I wait allllllll year for pumpkin icecream and there's only a few weeks left until it starts coming out! Actually, I went to Rita's in Flanders last night and they already have pumpkin pie flavored cream ice... not the best, but it definitely helped me get in the pumpkin mood! lol
and Calico - you're right, I've had it too and I wasn't impressed! lol (That doesn't stop me from trying every different brand I find though! haha!)
My bubbly bathtub (by myself so I can enjoy the peace and quiet) - with sea salt and a few drops of essential oils. Ahh. And vegan desserts.
Ferrero Rocher hazelnut chocolates. Those little crunchy candies are addictive! I only buy a little 3 pack when I need a special treat.
Icicle, the taste is very different, some are thinner, some are chunky, some have way too much oregano...there are some I wouldn't buy if they $.99 a jar, there are some I will suck it up and pay $5.00 for. Also, I'm also a pumpkin lover..anything pumpkin and was disappointed to hear the Rita's wasn't great. Will give it a try but have got to try the Dover Dairy soft pumpkin ice cream based on the feedback here.
I'm with Lola on the Ferrero Rocher... Also my lavender chammomile pillow spray right before bed, my special super soft sheets, my sandalwood candles, a huge glass of wine... Those are the things I've splurged on lately. But let me tell you- nothing beats the feeling I get when I'm finally done cleaning (although I love cleaning!) and my apartment smells so fresh and everything has that soft clean glow. :)
LOVE LOVE LOVE the Ferrero Rocher, and I also have to buy just the 3 pack or could eat them all...Mmmm
Bessie,
I just bought some pumpkin butter and am loving it!
Where did you get the pumpkin butter? I usually get a jar for myself and love it. I also love Apple Butter. For all you Ferrero Rocher lovers, have you tried the coconut ones? They are to die for, but not easily found. Happened to have one at a friends house, yummy.
Ferrero Rocher, for all the $ they cost, are still a cheap knock off. They're no better than the cheaper Mozart you can get everywhere over there, and even in a fair number of places here. Now if you want the real thing, then Bayrische Knödel - brandy soaked "Bavarian dumplings" of marzipan fudge centers dusted in nuts, covered in hand dipped chocolate. Confiserie Rottenhöfer, Residenzstr. 25, Munich not far from Marienplatz. Ordering nur auf deutsch, and bring an open pocket book - the things are a couple of euros *each*.
I used to think Mallomars were a big treat until they came back in their ridiculously small size for a ridiculously high price. Plain old moon pies are good by me.
I just can't pay big $ for jars of sauce. The stuff just isn't that hard to make, it just takes time - and if you put it on the stove over lowest heat it's ready by morning.
Main St Ice Cream - now there's a real treat.
It's not hot sauces for me, but hot Indian pickles. Mango or Ginger pickle, store next to Chand Palace in Parsippany, often the Nirav brand. (made in Chicago)
Bessie - My mom is a tea fanatic. (and brother is a coffee addict, so I get both ends) When I want to buy her something special, I take her over to Greene's Beans to buy the loose tea of her choice. You might want to look there.
Bessie,
I picked it up while I was in Jim Thorpe, but this time of year it starts springing up all over, haha. It is sooooo good!
GC, it's not that I can't make it myself, it's I like to try the different brands. I don't buy the run of the mill brands, Classico for example. My sister makes the best gravy so everything is compared to that. We both enjoy trying the different hot sauces and she never would buy sauce in a jar, but she also likes to try the different hot ones for some reason. If she sees something new, she picks up a jar for me, if I see something new, I pick up a jar for her. Just a "splurge" we both enjoy. I've gone to Greene's for tea and also go to a great place in downtown Jersey City where my niece lives.
Yes Pumpkin Ice Cream, their website says that’s it's coming soon, cant wait, that Cliffs Pumkin is the best I've ever had.

Also the Sam Adams Fall (I think that’s what it's called) brew that I had at Applebee’s not to shabby.
Octoberfest and Dunkelweizen are Sam Adams's seasonal beers for autumn... I hear they made a pumpkin ale this year as well, but I haven't tried it and I think it's only available in the "Harvest Pack"
listening to my grandkids saying their prayers,
watching the sunset a few minutes ago,
smelling the scent of the first bloom of lilacs in the Spring
relaxing in front of the fireplace with hot peach tea and a good book
finishing a Sudoku puzzle
playing Scrabble with friends
laughing till my sides hurt
GC moon pies YUM! loved them for years and years, its like one of those things that you grow up with lol
Bastards... Dunkelweizen is only available this year in the "Harvest Collection" as well. Now you have to buy a mixed 12-pack just to get two bottles of it. I think it's all a ploy to get rid of the "Irish Red" and any other beers they can't sell.
The Harvest collection consists of two bottles each of Boston Lager, Irish Red, Black Lager, Octoberfest, Dunkelweizen and the Harvest Pumpkin Ale. I had a Pumpkin Ale last night; it was surprisingly good, because I'm not a big fan of pumpkin beers. This wasn't overly pumpkin-y though, very subtle and a very good ale overall. I doubt if I could drink more than one or two at a time... but it qualified as a "little pleasure".
ian - Bayern über alles: Franziskaner makes theirs in a dunkel. They're one of the Spaten group.
Really? That's good to know. I'm familiar with their blond Weissbier but didn't know they made a Dunkel... does it also have a picture of the friar on the label?
ian - Oh yes, there is such a thing. It's made in the town of "Monks" and is called "Franciscan" - you can count on it having the friar on the bottle helles oder dunkel. ;-)
It's just a maroon label instead of the silver one:
http://www.franziskaner.com/3_products/3_1_product_spectrum/index.htm
The label for the blond is actually gold, not silver (-;
I notice that the Dunkel only comes in single half-liter bottles, not six-packs. Now all I have to do is find it somewhere...
Half-liter is the way all beer over there comes. If I recall from my college daze, Tanczos near Schoenersville Rd is gonna have that. (not to mention the Dinkelackers and Dortmunders and Aiyingers of the world) If you can't find it, I'm sure I have a source - but as you might imagine it's in PA and it's only a case of those pint bottles at a time. Not for cheapskates... ;-)
