Tracking Earl for this w/e
I think the only effect our area will get will be big waves on the coast however it's close enough to keep an eye on. It's not all that often a legitimate hurricane would come this close to us. It will be interesting to track.

I hope we dont get too much rani tis area was hit hard 2004-2005-2006 River people have to put up with New York State and the resourvars dumping to save themselves. they hod too much water there for Ny in the face of storms. With weather they can tell ahead of time . So no excuse to dump so late. Our towns and business's have lost so much thanks to them
I'm praying for that cold front to knock Earl back into the ocean. My parents are flying to Florida on Friday night and I'm flying down on Sunday night. I've been waiting a long time for this vacation and I don't want any stupid hurricane to ruin it or keep me waiting alone at Newark airport for my flight.
Some of what i read today has it moving near Hateras and then curving more sharply northeast than what the official track says. This is coming from people who i usually trust so we'll see.
'If' the latest path were to pan out we would most likely be 200 miles (or less) from a major hurricane with 110+ MPH winds. Wow. I wonder when the media will start going nuts over this.

Looks to me like Puerto Rico missed the brunt of it:

Here's the media you were looking for, Bryan:
"Hurricane Earl could be a Category 3 by the time it nears New Jersey's coast on Friday"

Hmm, this could get interesting. Right now the w/e weather forecast looks gorgeous! Mid 70s and sunny.
Ok....so what if I were supposed to be in Westport Ct. over the weekend? What do you think?
And we are heading to NE PA camping... I guess we'll have to stay tuned LV. I hope we are in the clear : )
NE PA will be fine Jag. I still think this at most will give us some clouds and a breeze. Maybe eastern LI and southeast NJ can get in on some rougher weather. Basically it's a very close miss but it's so close that 100 miles can make a huge difference so we'll have to keep watching it closely.
Here's the latest proj path. It's still a hurricane as far north as central NE. BTW the any effects will be on Friday only.

The track has been shifting slightly farther east. I think that trend will continue. I hear reports that it will be getting stronger. From what i've read that won't happen. It's already reached it's peak. It should still be a hurricane once it's east of our area but probably a cat 1.
Last year it snowed in October! Two years ago Washington Township Morris County got a foot of snow in October. That same year on Halloween there was snow on the ground in Hackettstown.
Bessie, if it's any consolation, I don't think the tent would be around you very long (-;
The trend is still to curve it a little more east. I would say at the moment it looks like you would have to be on the NJ coast or Long Island to have any real effects. For us we could see a shower and it will be a bit breezy. No big deal for us as it looks now. We'll see if anything changes over the next 48 hrs but i think our area is pretty safe.
Amazing water vapor loop

I really have no change from what i said before. West of the water gap should not get anything. From our area to 287 a few showers. East of 287 out to NYC will probably see some heavier bands and gusts but nothing crazy.
There are signs of strengthening and a 75 mile jog could bring dangerous conditions into the metro area. I'm not saying that will happen but with a monster hurricane that close you would be crazy to let your guard down at this point.
Winds up to 145.
Train of storms in the Atlantic right now. Incredible. Gaston will be next up.

I heard on the news this morning that Fiona is "disorganized" . I was hoping I could get out of going to Westport this weekend :) Westport is on the LISound, so I am expecting it is going to be stormy there.
No Fiona not a threat. There are actually 5 different storms now counting what was Danielle.
No way ian. This is a Friday event. Just watch for nasty rip currents lingering on Saturday. It could also be a windy day but otherwise it's a much cooler and gorgeous weekend.
The weather this morning showed our area with possible showers so Knoebels area might be fine. I wouldn't rule it out entirely, but as Bryan as said, 75 miles could make a difference. I would wait awhile before making that decision.
Good Lord I hope the heat breaks. It's not unbearable (since I'm inside most of the day) but I am sooo ready for cooler Autumn weather.
What makes it trickier is there will be a razor sharp cutoff between nasty weather and nothing much at all. We saw that a few times over the winter with snow.
Talk about a scary site. That cold front in the midwest is basically what is saving our a**es. I hope nthing goes wrong. Yikes

emaxxman, with you 100% on the heat...I have never been looking to Fall as much as this year. I will be complaining when it's really cold because I don't like that either, but this heat..I'm done with it. I heard on the news this morning that this has been the hottest summer on record. Yesterday morning they said the hottest since 1966, but I guess with how hot it was yesterday and again today, the recalculation changed it to the hottest.
LOL Snooki and the situation (cant believe he is gonna be on dancing with the stars). A friend of mine got knocked over by the wave on Tues in Seaside..They were bad already. Hope the rain stops by Monday
Thanks cbel! Getting ready for snow in a few months. When is the first snowfall contest?
lol matt prob when we are waiting for the first snow watch i am hoping to get slammed in oct that would be awesome!
Don't worry with a strengthening la nina, winter is not looking good right now for snow lovers :(
So by reading this thread & the links, I believe that my drive to Del beach starting at 6pm tonite might be full of traffic, but not so much on the rain & the wind?
Also the boss who wants me to book a flight to bring a guy home tonite from Memphis to Newark, NJ with NO DELAYS (hehe) - is probably better to catch an early am flight tomorrow to avoid those delays? my boss is a nice guy and was really only kidding :)
BLW - would not be surprised to see airport delays tomorrow as the day goes on. It will probably get windier than today/tonight even although any rain will be over.
Not sure which beach you mean but if you are going down the shore they are already having some heavy bands of rain coming in. I think that will continue esp anywhere near the GSP and east. From what i heard though, many people went down early to beat the storm so i bet the traffic isn't too bad at that time.
Going to beach in Del, north of Rehobeth Del - not hitting the GSP - doing 95 to Del bridge - so am thinking I am good.
As far as bring my guy home - we are on hold - but thanks (as always) for the update.
Earl is fizzling fast. The track call was pretty good but it has weakened rapidly. Pretty much an ocean storm at this point except for maybe eastern New England.
BTW - very nice weekend shaping up. Even the wind tomorrow doesn't look like it will be more than an a breeze anymore. 70's during the day and dipping down into the mid 40s at night! It will warm up again as we go through next week though but imo our area is done with the long heat waves. For the most part it will be pretty dry next week also.
Some rain would be nice. It's been so hot and dry lately. Maybe just one cool and wet day???? Please!!!!
Bryan you have crushed my dreams lol everyone told me this would be a horrible winter .
Sorry shoebie LOL. Don't worry though it's still early things can change. It takes more than 1 bad sign to take our snow away in the winter so we'll see.
Thanks for keeping us posted Bryan! I'll be tent camping tonight as planned but instead of rain gear I"ll bring my cold weather gear! 40's? I gotta find my winter pjs and fuzzy socks!
Our day at Knoebels couldn't have been better! It got pretty darn hot, but not unbearable (probably due to the fact that the wonderful park has tons of shade). We had arranged for PorkChop to stay at the kennel an extra night in case Friday was a wash and we had to go Saturday instead, but everything worked out wonderfully :)
