Pictures of Derribar
Hi-does anyone remember a place called the Derribar-my father is looking for some pictures on it-he is from NJ and has a pin that says "I was a pig at the Derribar"..he's just wants to take a trip down memory lane :)
look at this thread read it all a lot about it

a true confession...yes I Was A Pig At the Derribar...and i have the button to prove it... you had to eat a big banana split to earn that pin from a pig trow shaped dish... that place was a paradise for ice cream sundaes and candy...
Farrell's Restaurant had the same thing. When you ate the pig's trough, they'd give you a pin and the servers would yell "someone made a pig of themselves" and they'd oink at you.
I went to one in Staten Island and I know there was one in New Brunswick. Don't know how common they were in this area.
looks like it was a cool place , wish it was still there i can eat a lot of ice cream
No, it was not in the mall. The mall was not even thought of then!! It was located between what is now hoipe bank and on towards the Blockbuster. I can't pictue, off the top of my head, what is there right now! I remember going there a lot as a child but I can remember, specifically, a spring night in 1954 - oh, what a night! I was eight and the whole family went - quite a treat!!
Thanks to everyone for the info-if anyone has any pictures, please post them-my father would get a kick out of them-he lives in NC now, so he doesn't make it up to NJ that often
Sorry-to clarify-I am talking in reference to the Derribar-and to suzique-pictures would be GREAT!
Not talking about the Hackettstown Mall for Farrell's - the Staten Island Mall. And Farrell's was there in the mid 70s when I went.
Fondly , I recall their fish frys on Fridays. It may have been all you can eat. Just down the road from that one or two pump gas station with the overhang and elder lady who would pump your gas.....and the old A and P(or maybe that was built a little later-the original A and P)
My mother worked at the Derribar, I will have to ask her to see if she has any pictures
Hey Cookie,my whole family worked there my grandfather owned it. Would love to know who your mom was. You can e mail me if you'd like for privacy.Just click on the envelope by my name!
"Cookie" and "Suzique" : I know my father would LOVE to see any pictures that you have-he is going to think it's great the connections you both have to Derribar-if either of you have pictures, you may email me-click on the envelope-I will pass the info on to him (he doesn't have email :)) Thank you both!
Thank you old man for finding that last shot. I have stacks of postcards somewhere and still haven't found them. *sigh* I'll keep looking. :)
