Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital in Hunterdon County Closing
This is Christie's answer to the budget crisis! It is so wrong and so sad. I feel for the patient's at this hospital, there families and all of the workers that will be out of a job.
I know that the state is in a real fiscal crisis, but Christie's cuts to mental health services run pretty deep. I hope that we are still able to meet the needs of this vulnerable population when these cuts go into place. Mental health seems to be an easy place to make such cuts because the population is unable to express their opposition or unwilling to do so because of the stigma that is still associated with the illness.
I agree. This hospital was one of the newer ones and better than most in NJ. Does anyone know where they plan to transfer the patients?
What a shame as this seems to be one of the best psychiatric hospitals around. My Aunt was in here several times and it is cleaner and kinder than the other facilities she has been in. What do you suppose will become of the buildings and grounds?
It is so nice to see others agree with the fact that closing such a beautiful hospital is wrong! Patients are supose to be moved to Greystone and Ancora...
Ancora? They were moving patients from Ancora to Hagedorn and from Hagedorn to Greystone recently because Ancora needed room for more patients.
I work at Hagedorn and I have my fingers crossed that we dont close it will be so devestating to all that work and live there.
This is heartbreaking. Ancora and Greystone are over an hour away from Hagedorn.
These savings come at a huge price to the mentally ill and their families and communities.
If they were closing a sports center there would be people waving the flag and blithering on about how un-American this all is.
CC where did you hear that they might be sending the patients from Hagedorn to Greystone? It seems to me that GPPH has been running at or close to capacity since it opened. I don't believe that they would have room for these additional Clients.
Greg Roberts some CEO big wig of all the hospitals made the announcment and indicated that the pateints would be transfered out to the other hospitals.
I keep wondering if Giants Stadium were being closed and people were told henceforth all games would be played at least an hour away, and possibly there wouldn't be enough time at the new stadium for their team to play due to scheduling, would people be picking up pitch forks and shovels and torches and headed to march on Trenton?
please help support Hagedorn Hospital NOT closing!! Contact your leglislators and tell them not to let this hospital close. Please speak for those who can not speak for themselves due to their illness.
Thank you
The decision to close Hagedorn Hospital appears to be totally political. Hagedorn Hospitals' physical plant is in excellent condition and its employees give excellent care to the patients. Ancora Hospital is in terrible condition and will need tens of millions of dollars to bring up to par, while its staff remain under the scrutiny of the Department of Justice for patient abuse and neglect. Is it just a coincidence that Senator Sweeney comes from South Jersey/Ancora Hospital area?
