Comcast - cable modem w/wireless router

Can anyone recommend which cable modem with wireless router combo works with Comcast? I've searched and read the other threads on the forum, but I don't see anything that specifically addresses the wireless router need. I've also tried calling them twice - but their reps and I are not speaking the same language - if you know what I mean.

Thanks in advance.

linksis ,

I don't have comast now, I used to I now have IO. I went to radio shack and got a linksys wireless G router with the linksys G usb adapter for my desktop. It works great, the speed is good and I have had no connection problems. It was pretty inexpensive to. I paid 95.00 for both with the protection plan. Hope that helps.

wireless routers work with anything. . .

I have to do VPN's into several clients, and although the Linksys are great at many things for a good price, they suck at VPN. I have Linksys in my office but a Netgear at home specifically because of the VPN. Almost all of the small office products are good.

If I remember correctly (I have DSL now), my Comcast modem was a Motorola. If you're going to buy your own modem, try that. I paired it with a Linysys wireless router. It took minutes to get up and running. Never had an issue with my VPN access.

I now have a wireless DSL modem/router combo from Verizon. I hate it. I couldn't get my old Linksys wireless card (which works on every other wireless network that I've encountered) to work with it. I could hook up Linksys router to the dsl modem/router and piggyback off it but I'm too lazy to. Just not worth the effort.

I guess what I'm saying is don't buy an all in one modem/router. If you have router access issues, it's a pain to bypass it.

I use a Linksys 2.4GHz Router. Think you get more speed with other routers but this works just fine. Wife is always taking the laptop outside & we have good distance with it.

We have Comcast and a Belkin router. No issues at all and it was an easy set up. My friend who is a tech guy recommended it to me. I believe it was reasonably priced too. Can't remember how much as I've had it about four years.

They all work. Over the years I have had Netgear, LinkSys, Apple. Don't buy the cheapest ones as there range is poor and this may lead to spotty connectivity.

I think everyone is missing the point. The OP is looking for 1 device that is both a cable modem and router. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Wireless-G-Cable-Gateway-WCG200/dp/B0000TW3RE/ref=cm_lmf_tit_6

The problem is that this modem isn't on Comcasts list of approved cable modems.

Good luck with the search.
