Thank you to a stranger
Ok My fiancee just called me. He had just stopped in the quik chek on 517 and got a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. When he went to pay for it his bank card was not in his wallet. He must have left it on his desk after paying bills online last night. Well, the man behind him online picked up the tab for him! If that man happens to read this forum, THANK YOU! I will make a point to do something nice for someone today. Not that I dont try every day... Have a great day everyone!
Always "pay it forward"! Its nice to know that other people have the same philosophy.
That happened to me several years ago.
I was at the Dunkin Donuts on Mountain Avenue with my 2 year old and my infant at that time. When it came time for me to pay, I realized I had left my wallet in the car. I was going to head out to my car to get it when the woman behind me picked up the tab for me. I told her I would be right back in with the money for her, but she said not to worry about it - she remembers what it is like to juggle little ones. She completely touched my heart that day.
oh how nice I wish everybody was like that, now listened to this, I went to shoperite in succussuna for food shopping, when I got there I realize I didn't have a quarter for the cart, so I asked some woman who was returning her cart if I can use it since I didn't have a quarter, She said "no, used your own quarter!". I watched her walk all the way across the parking lot to return the cart ( I mean I had to stand there and watch her, because this was just so chocking to me, that someone would do that), I'd understand if it was $10, times are tough, but a quarter???come on! Anyway, now I know to check every time before I even get in my car.
jujubug - At the courtesy desk they have red plastic coin holders that you can put a quarter into and put it on your key chain. That way you always have a quarter handy.
Someone offering to pick up the tab is a nice story. Demanding someone give you a quarter is pan handling. Big difference.
jujubug -
You have to think of what a sad life someone must have if they cannot help a fellow shopper that got caught without a quarter in their wallet. How many times have you taken the change out of your pocket / purse and forgot that you need one of those quarters for shopping?
I know that I have been caught in that situation and have to go into the courtesy desk to ask for change to get a cart.
I know that if you had approached me, I would have not even thought twice about it and given over the cart.
Hey - if you're down and out for money, you can spend the whole day and evening in the shop rite parking lot "Hey Mister, I seem to have forgotten a quarter, can I take your cart?"
One cart per minute...8 hours - that's $120!
Then you can go food shopping for free - as long as they let you pay your bill in quarters.
I know someone that collects carts there and apparently a lot of people just leave their cart whereever and this person returns them to the cart corral and gets to keep the quarter. You could probably make a few bucks that way.
It's nice to see random acts of kindness. I always go to Weis to avoid that quarter mess since I never seem to have one either, lol! Though JuJu, should I ever happen to be there, and you at the same time, you can have my cart and quarter anytime, lol. :)
jujubug, you can only hope that the person who wouldn't give you her cart will some day be in the same position. I have given many quarters and many carts to people, I wouldn't think of doing any thing else. I have had many people be kind to me along the way, and I try to do good because people were good to me. I know that's me with my rose colored glasses, living in la-la land once again, but I would rather live in my world than the one that would tell someone to use their own quarter. To each his own I guess, LOL.
