What a deal @ Dairy Queen !

Love there food, it is all cooked fresh to order and is always great. Tonight we went there and got 6 hot dogs, 2 chicken wraps, 2 medium sodas, 1 french fry, 1 onion ring, and 1 small dipped ice cream cone for $15 and change. What a great deal!

1 regular french fry = 310 calories
1 order onion rings = 360 calories
2 medium sodas @ 200 = 400 calories

Why are posts getting nasty...because there are people within this forum who feel they are subject matter experts on all topics and feel the need to point out every opinion or feeling that is not theirs and inject their own opinion. Thus what we call America. Lets just face facts. America has become a nasty place with border line socialism that will lead us all down a path of conflict until it break all of our spirits. God Bless America, may we all take more pride and joy in where we live and respect the feelings of others.

You're right... I was out of line. But do you not post about trying to lose weight several times a month? If you really want to, your best plan of attack is NOT to eat at places like DQ.

You can feed a family of four much more healthily if you buy fresh food at the supermarket and prepare it yourself. I mean, sure, you can go to McDs and get 10 double cheeseburgers and 10 fries for 20 bucks and *feed* a family of five, but that's why this country is so friggin' obese. Buying a pound of whole grain pasta and fresh vegetables and making homemade Pasta Primavera costs much less than that and the calories are a lot more wholesome. Just *food* for thought... but I apologize for being overly critical. It's none of my business.

No offense Shoebie but the only healthy thing you ate was the chicken wrap and that is dependant on what was in it. Was it grilled/baked/steamed chicken? I remember it being fried chicken strips.

As for feeding a family of 4 for <$20:

Chicken and Pasta -
2 lbs of chicken breast - $6
1 box of pasta - $1.25
Can of sauce - $1.50

Salad-
Head of lettuce - $1
2 tomatoes - ~$1
Fat free salad dressing - $2

Carton of OJ - $2.50

~$16 and a heck of a lot healthier. Heck, I made 4 giant hamburgers with all of the trimmings the other night for <$10 (with fresh ground beef from the butcher at $4/lb).

Eating healthy is cheaper than eating bad for you...always has been.

Gravatar for emaxxman emaxxman Message emaxxman

Shoebie - for a fast food dinner, that is a great price to feed 4. I know how much it costs to split a small value meal with my child and there is no way that you could come close to that price at any of the other fast food joints in town (except for White Castle - never been there so have absolutely no clue on the prices).

Eating in is generally the cheaper and healthier option, but I understand that sometimes a change is needed - everything in moderation and on a reasonable change in lifestyle the occasional dinner out is not going to derail your path to a healthier lifestyle. Just watch out on what your estimates on the fast food calorie counts and what the counts actually are. Check out hungry-girl.com - they do an excellent job of uncovering the hidden fats and calories in what appear to be healthy options in restaurants.

Enjoy!

She didn't ask any of us to pay for her food bill, and if she is not eating healthy and it kills her, not anyone of us are going to jump in the caskett with her.
When I read her post, I thought the same as most about the diet threads, but I was not going to attack her on the thread. It's kind of like people who post and complain that they have financial problems, then a week later posts that they are going to Vegas ( just an example). Shoebie, you gave to much info. We should turn this into a brainteaser. There were 6 hotdogs and 2 chicken wraps for 2 adults and 2 children? If each child ate one hotdog, what did each adult eat? Did each have 2 dogs and one wrap, or did one adult eat 3 dogs? Or did one kid drop a hotdog on the floor and start crying, and had to be given another one?

It is a good deal at $15 bucks. But I can't even finish one hot dog.

1.
Psychiatry. Also called dementia praecox. a severe mental disorder characterized by some, but not necessarily all, of the following features: emotional blunting, intellectual deterioration, social isolation, disorganized speech and behavior, delusions, and hallucinations.
2.
a state characterized by the coexistence of contradictory or incompatible elements.

And from the DSM IV....
Symptoms of Schizophrenia typically begin between adolescence and early adulthood for males and a few years later for females, and usually as a result of a stressful period (such as beginning college or starting a first full time job). Initial symptoms may include delusions and hallucinations, disorganized behavior and/or speech. As the disorder progresses symptoms such as flattening or inappropriate affect may develop. See Schizophreniform for more information on diagnoses.

ianimal said, "I wasn't calling you crazy, if that's what you thought when you read "schizophrenic", just pointing out the apparent dichotomy. Please don't unfriend me on Facebook or anything (-;"

i wonder how she could have ever taken it the wrong way? Schizophrenia is a debilitating illness that should not be taken lightly. There was a time when the term may have been used to describe a simple contradiction.. but there was also a time when everyone knew the world was flat.

Whoa... this has all been blown WAY out of proportion. All I did was point out an oddity with the topics that shoebie starts on the forum. Further, it was one that at least half a dozen people have agreed that they noticed as well upon reading the original post. I didn't post it to *bash* or *attack*. I was legitimately confused that the same person would post diametrically opposite topics.

Most of the rest of the uproar was based on shoebie freaking out over the use of the term "schizophrenic", which I tried to explain. In hindsight, "dichotomy", "diameterically opposed" or "polar opposites" would each have been a better phrase since there's obviously some sort of mental health PC movement going on that I missed the memo for.

So once again, I apologize to shoebie... (I originally apologized three days ago, yet here we still are). I didn't mean for you to take offense to what I said... if I did, I wouldn't have apologized then or now.
