Blairstown
Hey whatever happened to the Blairstown website? Is there anyone on here from Blairstown at all? Or can anyone point me in the right direction where there is a site similar to this one for blairstown rsidents?
It's long gone...
There are a few of us on here from Blairstown...We borrow the H-town Forum for lack of our own. Besides, this one was always 100 times better. The Blairstown one was SLOW to say the least!
Do you have any questions in particular?
Hi Lori,
I'm Jessica. I just wanted to say I'm from Blairstown. I used to use the Blairstown site all the time I kind of miss it. Many people talk about whats going on in Hackettstown. Just trying to look for some locals to maybe start a chat about "our" town thats all. Of course meet people too.
I too am a Blairstownian. The only other forum I know of is the one at NJ.com but beware it is not a fun place to be. The 4-6 regulars on there give Blairstown a bad name. So glad we are welcome here :) Thank you Hackettstown!
Jessica,
Well, now that you started this thread we can chat here :)
hmmm...then there's the question, do any of us know each other? I'm 36, actually live in Hardwick but of course have a B'town mailing address, I have one son in 5th grade at the elementary school, and I work in the medical field. I was raised here and left at 20, returned sporadically throughout the years, and moved back permanently in 2007. How about the rest of you?
Lisa,
It is definitely beautiful today! My son and I took a walk/bike ride and hope to do it again soon. He has practice every Wed & Thurs at Sycamore Park from 5-7. If anyone ever wants to get together to walk we could certainly do that.
Nice to see you here fellow Blairstownians :)
I am 43 (almost 44) years old and was born and raised in PA. My husband and I moved here in 2003 with our infant son who is now 6 1/2. We moved in with my father in law who was having difficulty taking care of his home and property. He's my dh's foster dad and he will be 89 years old this fall.
I agree Lori...nice to see some neighbors here. Wonder if anyone knows anyone :)
Welcome Blairstown people :)
Although many on here are from H'town proper, there are many others from all over Warren County. I'm from Oxford myself.
Lisa,
For future posts on the forum could you use an initial after your name or something to differentiate between you and another Lisa on here? We'll want to know it's YOU :)
B'town has the best drug store/gift shop? Warren Co.Pharmacy? and the best little kids consignment store -THE BEST !!!!!!
I'm Jessica,
Hi everyone. I"m 29 almost 30 not looking forward to turning 30 LOL. I live on a farm. My husband and I have a horse boarding and hay business we love it! Chris and I got married almost 2 years ago in May and have been together for almost 8 years. We don't have any kids but hope to right now our baby is our 3yr old yellow lab named Dixie. We both work out in Bethlehem in an accounts receivable company. I moved to Blairstown 13 years ago I absolutely love it here.
I went on NJ.com and agree it seems as though people aren't very nice and complain about everything. Mostly about the B-town Police department but again I will keep my comments about them to myself. I used to work at the YMCA in blairstown so I'm hoping I know some people. Maybe we can get a walking group together that would be fun. Enjoy the beautiful day today hopefully spring is finally here!!
Blairstown/Hardwick, born and raised 31 years. Bought a home in Blairstown, lived there for 6 years but once the little one came along we purchased a larger home in Hardwick. Happily live here with my husband, 4 year old son, and our furry friends. Loved my childhood in the "Country" and couldn't picture raising our children anywhere else.
Hey, I too live in B'Town, been there for 8 years LOOOOOOVE it!
Glad to see there are more B'Town people here. I'm sure we all know each other ...... see you @ the A&P!
I see that most of you haven't added an email address, therefore no yellow envelope next to your name, but I have one, so if any of you want to get in touch just click my envelope and mail me :)
CountryMom,
I am very curious about you. I graduated in '91 so I'm guessing you did so around '96? We were in school together at some point. Any more clues you can give me? I'll answer any questions as well.
Like Jim said, we've probably all crossed paths at some point. B'town isn't all that big, LOL
Lori
My husband graduated in 97' and I in 98'. But I have a few nieces and nephews that graduated before me. You said your from Hardwick...I too am curious about you.
Jessica C.
I think we graduated together :) Relax 30's not so bad!
Jim
Sorry to say you probably won't find me at the A&P...too rich for my blood. I avoid that place like the plague. :)
I added my email...feel free to drop me a line!
We have pics from the falls on Sunday. A much different story...heavy falls but no sunshine. Anyone want to play at Footbridge Park? Bring your swimsuit, haha.
I know the water is crazy. The Paulinskill river is right by my house and the water is so high its in one of the Pasture fields right now. We have the NJ horse and carriage horses there in the summer time thank God they aren't in there. Is anybody into photography?
Hiya Calico!
I didn't see you here yesterday...Hope you're having fun in Philly today!
Lori... since '73,
Should have know that was you. Hi here I'm formally from Blairstown and now in Hackettstown.
As it turns out CountryMom & I live a few houses apart. What a small world (town)!
I live in Hope, but have a B-town mailing address. I own a horse farm, have 5 horses of my own and teach riding lessons to children and adults. I work in Hackettstown as a Professor of Equine Studies at Centenary.
Im 34, married, live in Hope, but have a B-town mailing address. I own a horse farm, have 5 horses of my own and teach riding lessons to children and adults. I work in Hackettstown as a Professor of Equine Studies at Centenary. I love it out here, I grew up in Union NJ (so different than here) and I couldnt imagine raising our son anywhere else, its just heaven.
Yes Lori...my DH gets up at 4 am every day to head to work in Parsippany. I get up with him to make his lunch and enjoy a bit of quiet before our son gets up and the craziness starts.
Hi Nole,
How are you? Do you teach english or western? I know that Centenary is primarily English. I ride western now just trail riding. I have always wanted to learn english. I have a horse boarding business I love horses I just never had the chance to ride. I had 3 horses of my own but due to an emergency I had my mom took them up in upstate NY and she sold my one :( and now she doesn't want to give up the other two LOL I am looking for another horse now. Let me know what your rates are. Thanks
Jessica
abc,
So...you started this thread and then disappeared? Helloooo out there..
Lisa L, & Jess,
Where are you in B'town/Hardwick? General area...I don't expect you to give out your addresses, haha. I'm by the Elementary School.
And since we have a thread devoted to our town, any of you know of a great place for haircuts? I'd love to find a place close to home but don't know which one, if any, to go to. And we actually have quite a few in town. My son & husband go to BuzzWerks, and they have a salon there too, but I just don't know...Thanks!
Lori
I use Hair Co. by the A&P. All the girls there are great. They do walk-ins on certain days too which is so convenient.
Lori,
Drive to Hackettstown and go to Kristina Michele Salon-- Jenn is the best!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.kristinamichelesalon.com/
Lori
I live right behind the blair dairy on vail rd. I usually go to Sandy (Hair design) on Main st. But Kelly at Hair co is good too.
We live near the end of Blairstown heading toward Columbia. I go to Voula at Buzzwerks and I just love her!! She listens to what I do and don't want and actually makes recommendations of things she thinks I might like.
haha, so CountryMom and I are holding down one side of town and you two ladies have the other side. I'm in your neck of the woods every Saturday when I work in the doctor's office in front of St. Judes
I bet I know you Lori then. I go to that Dr's office sometimes when I am sick and I have been sick alot this year. Do you just work there on Sats?
I love to see everyone having such a nice time getting to know each other and some of you getting re-acquainted.
I'm in Hackettstown and I love Blairstown as well.
Nole - I would be interested in your rates as well. I have twin 9 y/o and am interested in lessons for them. Thanks!
Enjoy this beautiful weather everyone!!
Too funny! Yes, since Sept I have only been there on Sats because I have a Mon-Fri office in Branchville, but from March of last year until Sept I was the one drawing blood whenever their regular Phleb was off for a day. Who do you see there? I'm guessing Dr K or Dr M.
Did you two ever figure out if you graduated together? And CountryMom is right...30 isn't so bad, LOL
My grandparents used to go to the Branchville office to see Dr. Dipala I think I'm spelling his name wrong. my Papa died though last dec so you may not have known him. I ususally see Dr. Kim when I have to go to Blairstown I normally go to Dr Shah in newton he is my favorite Dr. Yes me and country mom graduated together and we used to have classes together but haven't seen each other in years. Again I'm really not looking forward to 30 I love being in my 20's. I guess its also because I used to be a homehealth aid and I am just not looking forward to getting older! But its life and we have to live it to the fullest now.
Dr DePaola is great. I have so many patients who used to see him when he was in the B'town office and now travel to B'ville to see him. No names mentioned of course (HIPA Laws), but I have met a few others from this forum right here in my office. Again, what a small world, LOL. I see Dr K as well.
Very cool that you and CountryMom know each other. jk, who posted above, graduated with me, but we haven't seen each other for years either, aside from on FB recently!
Maybe you all can come to a Happy Hour sometime, or we can do our own in town. I've only made it to 2 in the H'town area. Hope everyone is enjoying this GORGEOUS weather!
Yes I am enjoying this weather just very upset I'm stuck in the office but I have all weekend to enjoy it! I'm going to go outside and play with my boarders horse. Then I have to help my cousins GF in biology. That would be cool to have a happy hour with some Blairstown residents. The Buckwood Bistro is nice unless someone else has any suggestions.
Hey Jim, a few of us have discovered that we know each other...any clues/hints as to who you are, fellow A&P shopper? LOL
Lori since 73 and JK -
I went to school with you both. Our 20th should be soon!
I've been in H'town for 13 years, but still check in on B'town.
This forum is great for questions to be answered quickly.
Enjoy Spring!!
Hey Stazy...LOL, I even remember you spelled your name like this for a while back in school! How you been? Yeah, that 20th is coming soon, too soon, ugh. Feel free to email me any time. I'd love to chat with you again :)
LOL Lori, you want a clue, I look like Brad Pitt, drive a Porsche 911 GT3, Live in a 14k square foot home w/ maids quarters, keep a Cessna Citation Mustang @ the Blairstown Airport.
OH! Hold on ....... nope, that's NOT me!
Lol Jim,
At least you seem to have a good sense of humor and a good imagination. I hate the A&P but I seem to always go anyways. Plus me and my husband always rent movies from that Red box.
Jim,
I love your sense of humor! If there was ANY man in this town that fit that description all of us ladies would have spotted him by now, LOL
CountryMom,
My son has aged out. Last year was his last egg hunt. I looked up the Rotary page but all they have are pictures from last year. The 1st picture that comes up is a picture of my son dashing into the field! I'm really surprised that I haven't heard or read anything about it yet...
Hey is anyone going to go to the tricky tray on friday at hackettstown high school. I will be there with my husband and mother inlaw. This will be my husbnads first experience lol we are excited!
Jessica,
I don't think I'll be going, but maybe your husband will be your lucky charm. The 1st one I took my hubby too was in Hope two years ago, and like I said in another thread, we won a few baskets AND the 50/50. Best of luck, and if nothing else I'm sure you'll have fun!
Lisa L,
Does your little guy go to B'town Elem?
Thanks Lori. I can't seem to find out anything online either. Guess I could always contact the Rotary.
yeah my hubby is always lucky! The first few times we went to the Sands Casino he won both times we went over $600 on the 1cent machines and he always wins the scratch offs lol. So we will see. It gives us something to do rather than go to the bar and we get to spend time together!
To answer my own question...The egg hunt at NWR is on Saturday the 3rd at 10 a.m.
We won two prizes I actually won a prize by accident because I put tickets in the wrong bad and then ended up winning lol. The Hope elementary TT was 100 times better than HH. We were all a little disappointed not as good as we had hoped. But it wasn't horrible.
This may be a good indication as to why the Blairstown Forum died off...Just not much going on, LOL
I would love to start another Blairstown Forum up. If more people knew about it I think that there would definately be more going on. Believe it or not I was always on there and we had some chats going on. Who is the person to contact that runs this site? I was trying to figure that out the other day. Maybe if we put word out on FB and start an account on there we could get a Blairstown Forum like this one up and running again.
I FOUND ONE for blairstown!!!! I really don't think many people know about it but if we can maybe start it up and let the word out we can have our own forum again! the website I found is
www.ourblairstown.com
So let's start it up! Hope to see you guys there
Jessica,
Hmmm...not sure how that one works. Am I missing something? I saw 2 topics that people started, but it's not like this forum where people can reply. It seems that you have to reply with another topic? I'm sure it's just me, but I am CONFUSED, haha
And really, we have to give our personal info?
NO I have no clue we haven't had anything in the mail yet should be soon though dont we normally have one in the spring and fall?
It is really quiet in here :) Hey everyone just wanted to say Hi see how everyone is doing... Anything new and exciting
Lisa L, I went to school w/Mrs Carbonaro's kids. Again, small world, haha
CountryMom, About Spring clean-up. If you have anything that someone else might possible want like scrap metal, old toys, etc., just place it by the street. You can even post it as a Curb Alert on Craigslist. People WILL stop for it. We put "junk" down by the road every now and then and it ALWAYS goes. Being that you live just down the road I bet it would work for you too!
Hey,
Does anyone want to get together every now & then to walk? I find that I'm much more motivated when I have someone to walk with. Best days for me are Wed & Thurs as my son has practice those nights from 5-7. We could meet a Sycamore Park (by the airport) and maybe walk the Trail, or Gwinnup Rd which doesn't have much traffic. Just a thought!
Lori,
No I really didn't like it like you said I wish we can get our old one back how the heck do we find out how to get it going again or set one up like this one. The only other thing I can think of is setting one up maybe on facebook.
jessica c,
do you belong to any of the FB pages? ie: Help, I live in Blairstown NJ? haha
If you make one I will join :)
Lori,
Most of the stuff I have is probably something that was picked up from someone's front yard...lol! But seriously this is just junk. We have put many things of use down by the road and they don't last long that's for sure. Thanks though.
Jess,
What about Yahoogroups?? Maybe you could set up a page there. I would offer to but I can't guarantee I could keep up with it.
Lori,
I have my own FB page its Jessica Torres. I will search facebook to double check there isnt one already. Lori Ive been walking on Gwinup since I live right by it almost every night my husband and I just got a new puppy so we walk with her.
jamie,
I guess I could check out yahoo groups as well to see.
I know this is a touchy subject and don't really want to start a debate like the Nj.com forum. But is it true that the Police department is leaving? Rumors are always going around and you never really know whats true and whats not.
Jessica C,
I hadn't heard that rumor yet (this time around anyway, haha). Has anyone else noticed though that our cops have a "pack" mentality? I can't remember the last time I saw one of them pull over a car alone. There are always 2 cop cars, lights flashing, behind the stopped vehicle. Must be because we have such hardened criminals/serious crimes in this town.
Also, I expect CountryMom to see B'town cops all the time because she lives right where they SHOULD be turning around (township line), but I see them cruising past my house all the time, and very rarely is it with lights flashing. It's like they don't care that they are now in Hardwick Twp which they DON'T patrol...
Jessica, Congrats on the new puppy. What kind? Post pics...This forum loves pet! Maybe I'll see you while walking someday :)
Lori,
Quite often they have someone pulled over in front of our place. I suspect they were in pursuit that is why they can cross the line. I have to say though I don't mind either way, since our lonely State officer is very rarely seen. I am by no means a prude when it comes to speeding but there are a few regulars that go through here that I would like to see get busted.
Jess,
Whenever it comes time for school elections and people start to get on their high horse about taxes the Police department rumor mill starts hopping. I just kinda go with the I will believe it when I see it attitude. But personally I have no complaints about the department.
LOL yes they do work in packs. They really do think they rule this whole town whether they are in hardwick knowlton or hope. I think the cops are somewhat good but at the same time they are hot heads and are all too young to be cops in this town we need older cops not ones coming straight out of the academy.
My Bailey is 10 weeks old Tree walking coonhound bull dog mix. I adopted her at common sense for animals in washington. Couldn't go wrong with the price at all. All Vaccinations are included, $100 in the cost goes towards spaying/neutering and they also get microchipped. We are thinking about going back and adopting Samantha which is a 2yr old boxer lab mix.
CountryMom,
I have one just across from me that needs to be stopped...Almost ran us off the road on Jones Ln the other night. Came through the curve in the Vosper farm at no less than 40 in the center of the road. Of course their house is also the one blaring music until 2am in the Summer. Grr...
I often see the cops just rolling by my house, not in pursuit of anyone/anything at all. The ones tailing a car& lights flashing I do understand as they were probably trying to stop them since before they crossed the township line. I think people keep going because they think the cops have to stop there, LOL
I did see a 4 vehicle "incident" on 94 today with only ONE cop present. I say incident because I saw no damage to any of the vehicles, but the cop was there, people were standing around examening the cars, and a few were yapping rapidly on their cell phones. I am curious as to what happened...
Jessica, I hope you post a pic soon. My calico Francine came from Dr Blease & Common Sense for Animals. I'm on their FB page. Maybe your Bailey is pictured there!
My son's travel soccer team has their 1st game tomorrow. We are a die-hard soccer family. Keep your fingers crossed for us. Thanks!
Did any of you lose power? I'm guessing those of you towards Columbia did? Anyone know what happened? Apparently some parts of Hardwick were out as well, but it didn't affect my house...
Lost power also lori, it came back on about 7 am.
BTW, spring is here and so are the "girls of Sunoco"
his prices are always higher but theres always a line to gas up.
yea we were out of power from 2am -1030. I heard that a racoon ate the power lines.
haha...this used to happen when I was in High School. Every now & then they would find what was left of a squirrel in the power box...
We lost power also and we're right on the border with Columbia off Rt 94. Came back on about 11 or so
Jessica,
Do you know anything about it...types of prizes, etc? I haven't gone to any yet this year and would really like to!
No haven't heard anything yet. My mother inlaw and sister inlaw last year they said that they had great prizes and it was a really good tricky tray.
There is going to be a Tricky Tray this Friday night at St. Jude's in Blairstown. Doors open at 6:30!
We went to the one at St. Jude's a couple years ago. I was kinda disappointed in the prizes. But I did win a set of dishes :)
too bad we couldn't look first before buying tickets to make the decision if its a good one. I wont be here friday to try St judes oh well next time. I am considering the allamuchy one though
Just read in the NJ Herald...
HARDWICK SPRING CLEANUP--will be held May 3-7. At the township garage.
Yay finally!!!
Ok, so word on the street is that the A&P has been purchased by ShopRite! The switch is supposed to happen by the end of the year.
ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!! That would be absolutely great we always shop at shoprite much better prices but man oh man its going to start being a mad house!
Joe M...Sunoco's Prices Are Higher ..thats why i go to Pro.....
anyway girls shouldn't work there..its a man's job

Country Mom,
Which Shop Rite do you mean? The "new one" in Washington?
I'm not too familiar with Blairstown, perhaps they are both in that town too?
I like the soft ice cream on Route 94 across from Yards Creek. Waffle cones is the best.
