Strange call from Hackettstown Police
I call my car in everynight from Oct to May. Last night I got a call at 12:30 AM from HPD saying that because of the flooding on the roads, I had to get my car off the road. I have never heard this before. Did anyone else get the call?
I wouldn't call that strange...
They wanted the roads clear in case of flooding. What were you reading into this? Better to be warned than not.
Perhaps your street is in a flood prone area . I call in each night as well and I called my car in around 1:15AM this morning with no problem.
You are all right--thanks. I guess it was a courtsey. I was sound asleep and when I looked at the number this morning, it was from a 201 area code cell phone. I think that's why I was concerned. Just curious to see if anyone else got the call. I don't live in a flood area.
cosmo, did the road where you park your car flood? Has a car parked on a Hackettstown road ever floated away?
Never heard this before? When was the last time it rained this hard during the car call in period. Also as Lori said Better to be warned than not, or sorry
Why would it be from a 201 number? Did you call them back to verify?
If you get a call from 201 at that hour of the night, don't go outside!
On a business trip, a coworker got a call one night saying that the hotel we were in was on fire and that he should evacuate. He called the desk and they said that there was no fire. He figured later on that it might have been someone in the hotel bar that saw him pull some money out to pay his tab.
Getting a call from 201, there is no way that you should assume that it is the HPD.
Even if it is their cell phone, why would it have a 201 number? Why would they use a cell phone anyway?
It doesn't add up and if it was me, there's no way I'd go outside after that call.
Why wouldn't it have a 201 number if it was a cell phone? My FIL lives in town and has a 201 cell phone number. Maybe the cop ran the license plate, got the phone number of the owner, and called from his own cell phone as a courtesy. I'd rather be woken up by the phone than a cop banging on my door in the middle of the night.
using his own phone for official business? What kind of outfit is this?
It doesn't all add up.
OK - so a department issued cell phone. It could still have a 201 area code. Local Hackettstown numbers are not issued for cell phones. I guess I'd just like to think the officer was being helpful.
201 used to be Hackettstown's Area code, so I bet there are many people who still like to use it - especially now that you can pick your phone number.
No it isn't right. It should have a 908 area code so that the residents know it might really be the police.
The call really should have been made from the HQ desk anyway.
Hey, if you want to react to a strange call in the middle of the night by running outside, go ahead. Maybe it's me.
What are they doing running plates all day anyway? They run hundreds a day. One morning I heard a 73 guy read in a list of a couple of dozen, must have been from a parking lot.
The front desk isn't working in the middle of the night. All calls would come from Warren County dispatch center.
Sounds like a buddy playing a joke. No cars were going to float away. Plows don't push water away. There are no "rain evacuation routes" through town. There would be no reason for the call. Call the number back and tell your friends they got you.
I had a 201 area code for a long time and i lived in 908 area code. Just because it was 201 number doesn't mean it wasn't HPD but regardless i would still call HPD and ask to make sure it wasn't a scam. It won't hurt to call, besided the officer could have called from his personal cell.
Any official Police call should come from Police lines unless there is some extenuating circumstance. We didn't get it that bad here, maybe along the coast there could have been an extenuating circumstance.
The police are not allowed to use their own cell phones for police business for security reasons.
If you trace the call I'll bet you find it is the person with the "big black Dodge Ram" looking to lure you outside as so they can run you down like you are a pedestrian at Byram Shop-Rite.....
It seems reasonable any time there is extreme weather you are not supposed to park on the street
Oh Greg...too funny...I can picture bits of torn shopping bags hanging out of the grill, LOL
From a past legiment experience when an officer of the HPD had to reach me it was from a (201) area code.
Legitimate? Not trying to be spelling police, but it actually took me a few to figure out what she was saying. Maybe this will help someone else, unless you're all quicker than me, LOL. It IS Monday, and a rough one so far, haha
Shobie, why wouldn't you be able to park on the street if it rains hard and is windy? I would have never thought that and it has never been questioned when you call in your car. Snow is another story.
bessie it was a little more then rain and wind. It was a bad storm with lots of trees coming down, I know when we lived in Hopatcong during a bad rain storm street parking was off limits.
Cosmo have you called the PD to confirm the call?
Shoebie, it is NOT "any time there is extreme weather you are not supposed to park on the street". It is only from Oct - May and only if snow is in the forcast. So had this been June Cosmo would not have gotten a call back fron the PD, because he would not have called in his car, so they would not have known his #
I would have done a few things....For one, I would have just Googled the number. You'd be surprised what you can find. Then again, use Spokeo and you'd really be shocked what you can find.
Also, if you're ever being targeted, etc, with calls, do an immediate *57. It logs the call into the unlawful calls and also gets sent to police. It can be used in court.
That's a just in case scenario. Me, I wouldn't go pranced out in my nightie if I got a cell phone call. Well, I guess I should say, unless hell froze over and Clooney was out behind the oak tree and had me on his Fave 5.
cosmo,
so did you ever look into this any further...make any phone calls, etc?
