Best corn beef and cabbage in town?

Had it at Stella G's today. It was the best I ever had. It was served with Irish soda bread, which was equally delicous. it I think the chef is Irish and his wife is the baker.
No wonder with food like this they are always so busy!

The best is Pam C's kitchen.......homemade soda bread and all!

Corned beef and cabbage is good, but triple decker Reubens with the leftover brisket is even better (-;

On St. Paddy's Day, fish 'n chipa is the meal for me, since I'm not a four legged animal eating person :)

I revise that - best outside your own home. I'm surprised at home many boil the corned beef. That just takes all the flavor out of it. I use a roasting pan with white wine in the bottom - huge difference. (not to mention I'm no cabbage fan, only a couple of really good ways to prepare it)

Braised is far better than boiled... my opinion, too, GC, although I would use beer instead of white wine. White wine isn't even permitted in my house (-;

Corned beef, that's been patted down with a little brown sugar, and then slowly roasted in Guinness, and then served with horseradish/sour cream sauce is killer.

Just ate at Stella G's for the 1st time last night. FANTASTIC. A far better experience than Marley's was, food was fantastic & on par with Prickly Pear & Mattar's. Excellent. The Shepard's Pie was a slightly different take on the traditional recipe, but SUPERB. Wife loved the CB&C. And they must bake their bread on premise, it was the freshest, best bread I have been served in a restaraunt in years.

We'll have to go for breakfasts & lunches sometime. I hope they have continued success & start serving dinners on more than just fri & sat. It was one of the best meals I've had not only in the hackettstown area, but ever.

PS- the burger (on the St. Patty's menu) is TOO DIE FOR, for all you burger lovers out there. Alot of people may think "it's a burger- how good can a burger be?" This was one of the best burgers I've ever had- and I am a "burger connoisseur."

LONG LIVE STELLA G's!!

Dolly - that sounds good. Do you cover it in Guinness or just have it sitting in it partially? Do you roast in the oven?

I made corned beef years ago when I first moved out on my own...I simply boiled based on what I saw on tv. I'm thinking of trying this in a slow cooker.

Dolly, my recipe is similar, except I rub a tablespoon of coarse grained mustard onto it, season with salt/pepper and then braise it with Harp Lager instead of stout.

Calico - have him bring me one... Sure I'm not really supposed to have it, but I'm in between doctors so there's no one to say no. ;-)

Went to StellaG's last night. I had the fish 'n chips which were very good and DH had the burger. He thought the burger was quite good, but was a little disappointed that the bun wasn't toasted...LOL He said, "excellent quality of meat and the first time in many years that I actually got a burger that was cooked to a perfect medium". He also had the potato soup which he said was outstanding. I thought it was one of the best I've had, but I could only get a small spoon of it from the edge of the bowl since they garnished it with pig...LOL

Jessica, make sure it's covered well with aluminum foil (or in a small roasting pan with a lid) and braise at 325 degrees for about an hour per pound. Check temp with a meat thermometer... about 160 degrees internal temp and it's done.
