Which route would take to Florida if you were driving?

We are leaving for Florida in two weeks to go to Disney and we are driving. Last time we went we took 95 but i have been told there are other routes you can take. I think one is 81?

You would get on I-81 in PA,pick up 17 in Winchester VA. This brings you to I-95 just above Fredericksburg,VA then take that down to Disney. 81 is def a nicer road then 95

If you're trying to get there fast I'd leave at like 8PM for I-95 and keep going until you get past at least Washington DC. From there it should be a pretty smooth sail into Florida.

Mommyof2 - Driving to Disney with 3 kids under2? Good luck, I wouldn't want to be you ;-)

I'm sure when you get back you will want to take me up on my Rolling Rock offer :)

The only route I would take is the one to Newark or Allentown Airport, Thats a long ride with 3 babies

wow, I can't believe you are doing this with 3 under 2! We drove 9 hours to North Carolina a couple times when the boys were 6 months and again wne they were 9 months. It was very hard the first time so we had to stay overnight the second time to break up the trip.

Wow, you are my hero for doing this! I am assuming you aren't going straigh through??

LOL Just Asking - I think Flying with three babies all under 18 months would be worse! I don't want to torture others on a plane! Honestly my kids just sleep in the car so it isn't bad! We drove to disney last year with the twins too!

Calico - I will need that Rolling Rock after Disney because it is disney with 3 kids under 2 and one giant child AKA my husband!

Last year we took our Garmin GPS and let me tell you that thing almost got thrown out the damn window! While we were driving in DC it wanted me to drive straight into the Capital Building!

Nosila - That is a good way to go because i want to avoid DC area since DH won't drive in that area!

I am really trying to find a nice route because my husband is BIG pain with driving! PUt it this way last year of the 19 hours down...I drove 16 of those hours and only stopped for a few hours at a hotel to sleep! THe way home I drove 14 of the hours! He won't drive at night! UGH!

Thanks Everyone.

Mommy,
A few years ago I went down to Orlando (not Disney) with one 3 years old... on the way back I promised her that I will never do that again unless she asks for it. It was harsh....

Anyways thru 84 and more...(I bet link doesn't work....you can do it in Google maps....and 07840 to orlando, FL and pick the 2nd option...)

Mommyof2- I always end up driving more than my hubby too. It's easier then hearing him complain the whole time. Not because of driving but because of all the other drivers lol. 81 is sooooo pretty. I will be taking 81 to Roanoke tomorrow morning.

I agree flying would be much worse. I wouldn't want to do that to other people either.

I think BEG's route is the best. 81 to 77/26 to 95.

78W to 81 S to 83 S. That will take you to Baltimore. It should take 3.5 hours to get there. Then take 95 south the rest of the way. You want to time it right so that you don't hit Baltimore during rush hours as the 95 link between Baltimore and DC is no fun at those times.

Mommyof2 and Bryan,

Consideration for people other than yourselves? That's practically unheard of!! I applaud you both.

ianimal, hahaha.

Mommyof2, hope you have a safe and fun-filled trip. Post lots of pictures when you get back.

just wondering...why would you want to go to Disney World with such young children? that they will understand none of it? NOT bashing you at all, just curious.

Lisa - we do pretty much drive straigh through only stopping for gas and food. Oh and poopie diapers LOL! How we do it is my mom or sister will watch the kids the day before and not let them nap LOL....than i try to sleep for a few hours so i can drive for a long period than my husband takes over (he sleeps while i drive). We also have those build in DVD players in our van so as long as we have Yo Gabba Gabba, Cars, and Finding Nemo the twins will be happy when they are awake. Who ever isn't driving sits in the back with the kids so if they need snack it is taken care of!

Ianimal - I did not want the garmin my FIL bought as a gift and DH opened before I had a chance to return it! I call the garmin DEBBIE DO WRONG or Sally the screw up! That damn thing would get you lost on your own street!

Tracy - I just don't think it is fair of me to torture other people with 3 kids with only 2 adults. That being said my kids are very easy going and everyone makes comments when they see me out alone with all three. I do it all alone from shopping to running little errands. I can't tell you how many times I have been called Nuts, Supermom, etc!

Vicnity - It isn't really for the kids when we go at this point! We have been going almost every year since DH and I have been together and always there for my birthday and our anniversary! I also have cousin who lives down there and a friend who we visit as well. I do thing my twins will have fun but i know they won't remember it. They love Disney stuff!

Plus with the cost of flying then on top of it all the baggage and then the baggage fees. Then you would also need to carry three car seats into the airport. Have fun changing diapers in an plane bathroom. I would drive too

Vicinity-Yes, they will not remember, but the parents will! The parents will have precious memories and when the kids are older they can share the pictures with them. I brought my 2 1/2 year old and the memories I have of him dancing with mickey mouse are priceless, well worth it!

Stop at South of the Border half way. We always did when I was a kid, and oddly enough that tourist trap was kind of my favorite part of the trip, lol!!

We always do ended up stopping at South of Border! Dh is like a big kid there LOL!

Yes the cost of flying would be crazy for us with three kids since we can't have 3 on our laps plus juggling everything else. The amount of stuff we have to bring too wouldn't be worth it! Diapers for 3 kids, formula for Brady, clothes for all 5 of us, medicine for the kids just in case, bottles for Brady, sippy cups for twins, double stroller for the twins, single stroller for Brady, etc! Thank god we have one of those cargo things for our van!

You can take 78 to 81 and pick up 77 in Virginia, to 26 in South Carolina to 95 the rest of the way down.

or you can take 78 to 81 and pick up 64 near Harrisonburg, VA to 95 in Richmond Va.

It is a nice way to travel. There are not as many rest areas as you would see on 95 but the Harrisburg PA rest area is nice, as is the West Virginia rest area.
Either of these route would avoid the nightmare of Phila./Baltimore/DC
Definately a more relaxing drive.

Crossing the Delaware on 78 gets very backed up at rush hour and Harrisburg Pa also gets a little crowded.

The trip is about 1220 miles.

We are making the same trip at the end of the month. Have a great time, enjoy your babies! : -)

I agree with some of the other posters. The last time we drove to Florida, we took 81/77/26 to 95. It was a very nice ride and we made great time. critics will say it is out of the way, however you bypass all of the heavy traffic areas on 95. It's great coming onto 95 in SC...We usually leave around 3 or 4 AM to beat some of the traffic between here and Harrisburg in the AM. We drove through to a Daytona hotel and drove out onto the beach in the AM before heading to Disney. We could have driven through to Orlando if we had to. 81 is a pleasant drive compared to 95. We always have horrible luck on 95 so we avoid it whenever possible north of Richmond! Good Luck and have a wonderful vacation!

Re: Which route would take to Florida if you were driving? We are back from Disney! The drive wasn't that bad! The ride down was the easiest. The ride home I think we all were little tired since we spent 7 days in disney world but it was worth!
