What a disaster! Tsunami warnings for most of the Pacific.

This is terrible. Will have to see what the true impact is of this as the day progresses. Thanks for the link.

There was also an earthquake that hit Japan - 7.0 on Saturday

With all these big earthquakes, there must be some major shifting of the plates going on right now in the world. Hopefully things will settle down soon.

I guess we should get ready for a produce increase at the market. We get a lot of fruits from Chile this time of year.

Sure do Calico.

All of this is pretty eerie. Coralie is right about the plates shifting. Scary to say the least.

As you can see, earthquakes are hardly an atypical occurrence. The planet averages 1.5 earthquakes greater than 7 on the Richter scale in any given month. The fact that we've had two that have exceeded 8 in the first two months of this year is merely a statistical *blip*, not necessarily an indication that the planet is becoming more tectonically active. .

Unless of course, this is a precursor to 2012... (cue the scary music)

Our next door neighbors families live there. They have been able to reach one side but not the other. Please pray all are safe. Thanks.

I am praying for all the warm, beautiful and deeply spiritual friends I made, and for those people I didn't have the opportunity to meet.

would not have anything to do with deep oil well drilling geo thermal wells for heating and cooling or under ground nuke test would it ?

caged animal,

Ummm, no. That isn't the Physcs behind earthquakes. They come from the movement of tectonic plates, which is just a simple fact of our Earth's anatomy.

Shannon P - Chile won't need as much help as Haiti. They are a much better organized country and structurally well built to sustain earthquakes.

Shannon???????

When did we start comparing tragedies?

And if they don't?

What are YOU going to do? and if you do something, I applaud you

Chile is certainly not a third world country. They have substantial resouces of their own.

Shannon,

A quick economy lesson:
Help is given in increments of need.
Haiti needs more than Chile.
Notwithstanding, our resources are finite.

WOW, family leaves Haiti after surviving the quake there and flees to Chile only to survive the quake there! Good thing they didn't leave Chile for Taiwan they had a 6.4 there today.
