NFL Offseason Thread
Figured we should set up a thread to comment on trades, contract renewals, wish lists etc.
Anybody have any ideas where they think LT will land? No way he is going to go anywhere where he will be the lead back.
Peppers is not being tagged, hmmmm where will he land. According to sources the Eagles don't want him.
My shopping list for the Eagles are as follows:
Defensive End
Middle Linebacker
Strong Safety
Trade McNabb and Vick. Set up Kolb as the starter and pick up a veteran back up. Or... trade Vick, give Kolb an extension and have him back up McNabb for one final season. Not sure if McNabb will take to kindly to being a lame duck though.
McNabb got his money so he's happy. This is his last year though. Westbrook is gone for sure. McNabb is still the best player on the team...no matter what Philthy fans say.
Cowboys need some new blood on the o-line and and more depth at safety. Oh yeah, there's that issue of a kicker. I guess we need a kicker.
Da Stullers are in need of O-linemen who can run block and depth in the secondary and at running back.
The Eagles have released Brian Westbook.
Sad day, but a necessary evil. I was always a huge Westbrook fan.
Mosi Tatupu died... way too young at the age of 54. His son Lofa plays mike for the Seahawks.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100224/ap_on_sp_fo_ne/fbn_obit_tatupu
He was one of my favorite non-Steelers and a pioneering Pacific Islander (native Hawaiian) in the NFL who led the way for the influx of guys from Samoa, Tonga, etc.
Gotta love Sean Payton. Drank Jerry Jones' reserved bottle of wine and left a "Who Dat?" note on the empty bottle. Classic :)

Latest news:
Nate Burlson to Lions
Antonio Cromartie to Jets
Jake Delhomme cut by Panthers
Favre undecided (there's a surprise)
Damn...people are cleaning house. Jason Campbell got a pretty high tender....that's surprising.
The big news will be whether Vick and McNabb both go somewhere else. Kolb is going to stay. Vick is gone for sure.
Since McNabb and T.O. kissed and made up, Reid should bring T.O. back. Maclin, DeSean, T.O., and the TE (can't remember his name) would make a pretty solid receiving corp. It'll be the final hail mary pass of the McNabb/Reid era.
Cowboys will be quiet in free agency I think.
The Jets just got much better by signing Cromartie. It's going to be tough(er) to throw against them next year. It would be great to see Rolando McClain from 'Bama slip to the Giant with the 15th pick. The Giants need a dominant LB and most importantly a healthy Kenny Phillips.
Eagles should trade McNabb and Vick, keep Kolb as the starter and pick up Delhomme as a back up.
Can't believe peppers went to da Bears.
TO will most likely go to Cincy.
Cincy = The Land of Misfit Toys (Perfect Fit for T.O.)
The Giants just got a whole lot better by picking up Rolle.
This wasn't my one liner joke but I got a chuckle so I thought I would share for ian's benefit:
Rapistberger
LOL...hey, if you ignore crack/hooker arrests, transportation of a truck load of pot, and stripper club shootings, the Cowboys are law abiding citizens.
What I wonder is why is a famous football player hanging out in a college bar picking up 20 year olds? Some of these athletes seem to have no brains at all.
As Tony Dungy once said, "Nothing good ever happens to pro athletes who are out after midnight!" For all we know she could be a "gold digger" or something inappropriate could have happened. Bottom line is when you put yourself if a situation like that you are asking for trouble.
Classy gesture by a classy individual... albeit one with a disconcertingly ginormous head (-;
http://www.nola.com/outdoors/index.ssf/2010/03/scott_fujita_a_champion_for_ne.html
Anquan Boldin to the Ratbirds... not liking that news one bit. Joe Flaccid might get a little more virile with someone to throw to...
Eagles and Marlin Jackson agree to 2 year deal. Let's hope this works out, he only played 4 games last season and 7 the season before.
On the Rothlisberger thing, he is getting killed on the radio by people calling in screaming for his suspension. Suspension for what? Is there any proof at this point that anything he did was illegal?
The only thing I've heard is that he DIDN'T do anything illegal... of course, that was his attorney talking, so I think a grain of salt is probably in order there (-;
Looks like no TO/Ocho, Bengals have signed Bryant.
Delhomme to visit Cleveland today, apparently Quinn is on the trading block. Anderson is sorry for dissing the fans. I would have said the same thing as him, he shouldn't have had to apoligize.
Seahawks, continue their interest in either McNabb or Kolb.
Vick a Steeler? You never know ianimal ;-)
http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=20481
LT to the Jest. Jest fans, how do you feel?
Quinn to Denver. Anybody think he will ever be any good? I'm not too confident.
I have to agree with Mike & Mike... for what they paid LT, they'd have been better off keeping Thomas Jones.
If Jest sign FLT, he will have to get a new nickname, or use FLT - Fraud or Fake LT, CAUSE THERE IS ONLY ONE LT in these parts
LT has had the better career but I think Jones is currently the better back. I think the Jets thought Jones wouldn't get a comparable deal in FA and thought they could resign him. Crazy if you ask me. I think injuries have taken a unrecoverable toll on LT.
The Browns will be an interesting team to watch this year. If they become contenders again, Holmgren's legacy will grow even more.
Rolle to the Gmen is interesting...we'll have to see how that turns out. Redskins releases and signings as well.
Cowboys haven't done squat in FA (didn't expect them to anyway) so it'll be exciting to see what they do in the draft.
I don't know that "exciting" and "NFL Draft" should ever be used in the same sentence (-;
I would agree that the draft is usually boring...but with Jerry Jones, you just never know what he's going to do...I guess anxious is the better word.
Finally a decent trade by my Birds. Eagles trade DE Chris Clemons and a 2010 forth round draft pick to Seattle for DE Darryl Tapp. Tapp is a good young player, should be a big compliment to Trent Cole.
Also, RB Mike Bell signs the Eagles offer sheet. Waiting on the Saints now.
The OT rules for playoff games are officially changed.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8171b356&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true
Did new OT rule have something to do with Favre throwing 2 OT interceptions? NFL trying to protect its boy?
Well, if it's truly the "Brett Favre" rule as so many radio hosts are calling it, it sure is ironic that the Vikings voted against it.
All of this McNabb stuff is killing me. Just make a decision for Pete's sake. If you want to trade him, trade him. if not then say you're keeping him. I feel bad for him on a personal level that he could land up in Oakland.
It's driving me nuts! The worst thing about it is all of the non-Eagles fans that keep saying that Eagles fan are totally dissing McNabb for wanting to try to move forward without him. LOL, can you imagine if the Giants or Cowboys had a 33 year old QB for 11 years that never won a SB? One for five in NFC Championship games! Those fans would be requesting his head, the management's head, the coaches' heads etc!!!!!
Calico,
Difference is the Giants & Cowboys HAVE WON A SUPERBOWL, more than 1 as a matter of fact, with different QB's lmao
But I do agree with you on sending him to Oak
I do feel bad for McNabb if he ends up in Oakland. However, I don't fault the Eagles for sending him there if Oakland offers up the best deal. It's their right. Where the Eagles did wrong McNabb is that they weren't up front with him. I think they owed him that. Be honest with the guy that has taken you to 5 conference championships (regardless of whether he won or not).
Regarding Eagles fans, you all have been crying, bitching, and booing McNabb since he was drafted. We, the fans of SB winning teams, would understand your plight if it wasn't for all of the moaning and crying. LOL!!!!
Cldye - Don't forget the Redskins. Even they won 3 of them.
One more note - if the Vikings had any balls, they would cut Favre loose, get McNabb, and be done with it. Odds are against Favre getting back to the SB so why bother with him and his BS.
OMG! I thought this was an April Fool's joke at first until I realized the the article was actually released a couple days ago.
OK emaxx, Clyde, Ian.....get your cleats ready!
The Bills are opening QB tryouts to the publc!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF, are they serious....LMAO
http://www.ubspectrum.com/sports/bills-open-quarterback-position-to-public-1.1289196
Ok you can stop reading the article.....LOL
Did I get you??? April Fool ;-)
Would be kind of like Vince Papale in Invicible though right :)
Let me start off by saying that i am a life-long Giants fan and i know that my views are clouded by that fact. That being said, i am so ready to laugh at all of the philly fans that are calling for the head of McNabb. How do you feel that getting rid of McNabb will make the team any better? McNabb is a proven winner (it pains me to say that) Under his leadership the iggles have consistently been one of the better teams in the league over the last decade, second only to NE in that regard. What weapons did McNabb have to work with in all of those championship games? None except westbrook and the one year that he did have T.O. they made it all the way to the Super Bowl. I guess my point is... Becareful what you wish for Philly.
Superkind - I'm not against anything you have said at all, but I will say this....
If the Giants had 33 year old a QB for 11 years that they had never won a SB with....they and their fans would be having a hissy fit.
BTW - I'm not calling for anyone's head, just change. The have extended Reid for 3 years and extended Banner for 3 years. Obviously, we aren't getting change there so QB is where to start. Personally, I would rather have McNabb stay and Reid go. But, apparently that is not going to happen.
Time to turn the page and see where the future goes.
If the Giants had 33 year old a QB for 11 years that they had never won a SB with....they and their fans would be having a hissy fit.
Calico
Calico, the key words there are IF & NEVER WON A SB lmao As in IF the Eagles were good, they would not be one of a few teams that NEVER WON A SB LMAO ( you know I love you)
Eagles traded Sheldon Brown & Chris Gocong to Cleveland
Clyde - You and they WOULD be having a hissy fit, trust me. xoxoxo
See ya Sheldon....don't let the door hit ya ;-)
McNabb traded to the Deadskins!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the memories Donny and good luck in Washington.
Hmmm...I guess I will cheering the Redskins on at least twice this year. I didn't think the Redskins would be contenders this year for the NFC East (still probably won't) but they'll be potential spoilers for sure.
Regarding the 33 year old w/o a title, Giants' fans were ready to bury Eli and Coughlin after 4 seasons.
Santonio Holmes to the Jest???? For a 5th round pick???? Hmmm, guess they are really trying to rid the team of the "off-field" trash.
I wouldn't bet on them getting rid of all of the "off-field trash".... i don't think that Big Ben is going anywhere and he has seen his share of off field issues. i guess it is alot easier to replace a WR then a QB.
Looks like the Jets are doing whatever it takes to get to the post season, character guys do not seem to be the priority. let's hope they can hold the team together i would had to see them become the next cincy. if the Jets are looking for another CB i hear Pacman is still looking for work.
RUMOR ALERT!!! I heard on ESPN this rumor....
St. Louis Rams offering this year's 1st Round/Overall Draft Pick and next year's 1st Round Pick to the Steelers for Big Ben.
LMAO, what a circus.
Any thoughts on a good bar in the area to watch the draft next Thurs night? Preferably one with audio.
Bryan - We are so lacking in sports bars in this area, it stinks. I think we are going to head over to Playmakers. For you, I might suggest Pub 517. Lots of TVs, plus I know they have the NFL Ticket during the season. So there might be some Sunday football regulars there as well. Otherwise, Applebees (barf....LOL) has those little individual sound box control thingies on the bar there. WE NEED A GOOD SPORTS BAR!!!! What ever happened to those Buffalo Wild Wings rumors?
With the NHL Playoffs, the NBA Playoffs, and Baseball i'm not sure that the bars will even be showing the draft and good luck finding one with audio. Applebees with those little sound boxes would be your best bet in H-Town i'm guessing.
How do people feel about the Draft being moved and split into a three day event? I am of the opinion "if it ain't broke don't fix it". i loved the draft the way that it was, i loved spending a spring saturday kinda watching football for the afternoon. i don't feel that it will have the same appeal when only the first round is shown on thurs, then the second & third rounds friday, followed by the lower rounds on Sat. Who is going to tune in on Saturday after having watched the draft two days in a row? You know they are just going to drag it out even longer the first two days for that primetime add time.
i not a huge fan of the commish and this is just another reason to add to my growning list.
who do you think the G-man and Jets will select in the first round?
This is crazy...no way is Big Ben tradeable:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8178b2b1&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true
I don't care what the media and public thinks...if the Steelers trade him, they should be shot. I'm hardly a fan but he was never arrested and has helped them win 2 SB's. He is not Holmes, Chris Henry, Pacman Jones, etc.
"He is not Holmes, Chris Henry, Pacman Jones, etc."
Probably not emaxx, but you never know what might come out..........
you guys are right, Big Ben is no PacMan Jones... PacMan got into some fights in some bars and clubs, but he never raped any young drunk girls. PacMan may be a lowlife but he never sunk that low. No means No Ben, even if you are a big time QB.
Super - I'm sure Ben will get his. What comes around, goes around. Hopefully Vick will have a career ending injury this season as well.
Less than a week until the draft and Rams rumors are flying. Will the keep the first overall pick and take Bradford or will they trade it away for more picks and pick up Clausen with their second pick?
The schedules are out. I like the Eagles schedule :)
Jason Tayor to the Jest, 2 year deal

Commission might announce Big Ben's punishment today. Steelers pick up Leftwich.
Colts Eric Foster accused of sexual assault

Less than 36 hours until the Draft :)
I must sat that i am a little disappointed that the Giants do not open the new stadium with a division opponent, the extra drama of a divison rival would have made the first game even better. With the way the schedule look i expect the giants to start fast again this year, but then run into more trouble as the season goes on. I noticed that all of the Giants division games take place after nov 14th, the back end of the schedule is loaded with the division games. I believe the league is doing this to try to cut down on those throw away games at the end of the season when playoff bound teams rest their players. every team will play a divison opponent in week 17, i am very interested in seeing how that plays out.... ut-oh Jets you may have to earn your way in this year!
I saw that Big Ben got six games... with good behavior i bet it gets cut to 4 games. seems like a fitting punishment for something that can never be proven, but that puts the league in a bad light.
i still don't like the three day draft idea... BUT I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO START! the giants need help at LB in the worst way.
Go Big Blue!
go big blue!
Calico - I need to hear your thoughts on this story... It seems that McNabb went to the Washington brass and asked that they really think about bringing T.O. to the 'skins. I did a double take when i read that on ESPN... the dude calls you out, places the blame of a Super Bowl loss on your shoulders, and now you want him as a teammate again? really?
When T.O. was with the Iggles the locker room was split down the middle, half for McNabb and half for T.O. and a divided locker room normally means a weaker team. Why would McNabb want that to happen all over again? and what does that say about McNabb's view of his current crop of WRs?
McNabb has never been a straight shooter. What I mean by that is, he's kind of a two-faced liar. The only reason he could possibly want TO to come to the Redskins is to save his own sorry a**. He was supossedly the advocate for TO when he came to the Eagles and Vick last year. McNabb, although probably the best Eagles QB ever, is a big baby. TO is a big baby as well.
IMO, Donovan is a man who talks with a paper a**hole. He's got another thing coming though if he thinks for one minute that the McNabb/TO combo in 2010 would be anything like 2004. TO had 77 catches for 1,200 yards that season with 14 TDs. At 37 years old, he is never going to get anywhere near there again. He started going downhill his last year with the Cowgirls and has been worse and worse since.
I'll leave you with these two vintage 2005 Bang Cartoon from the Donovan/TO Eagles era:
http://www.bangcartoon.com/2005/childsplay.htm
http://www.bangcartoon.com/2005/birdy.htm
Also, there are reports that the Steelers are shopping Big Ben....LMAO!
As for the strength of the NFC East schedules...
this year the NFC East playes the NFC North and the AFC South. That means that each team will play - Packers, Lions, Bears, Vikes, Colts, Texans, Titans, and Jags. With all of those games, plus two games each against NFC East rivels, that leaves two games based on how well the team did last year. Here are those opponents for each team.
'boys (11-5 last year, East Champs) get - Saints & Cards
Iggles (11-5 last year, wild card) get - Falcons & 9ers
G-men (8-8 last year, missed playoffs) get - Panthers & Seahawks
'skins (4-12 last year, missed playoffs) get - Bucs & Rams
though the iggles and cowboys had the same record, the cowboys face much harder teams then philly.
Could Big Ben wind up a Bill???? LMAO, that would be hysterical. Steelers are said to be shopping him for a top ten, first round pick.
Superkind - I'm happy with this year's Iggles schedule :) I wouldn't necessarily "brush off" the Falcons and the Niners. Both teams could have a good year.
Calvin Pace #97 said that the Jets are the NFL's Yankees??????????
The Yankees?? - Don't they win championships?
Pace should be drug tested ASAP
Hmmm anyone want to talk draft?
I'm very happy with the Iggles pick of Brandon Graham at 13 :)
Totally not liking having to wait until tonight for the second round.
The Giants pick of another DE makes me scratch my head a little bit. The Giants are already stacked at DE, i would say that it is one of their deepest positions next to WR. but here we are with another DE. When they made the pick i thought to myself, "well there goes Osi" but ownership has come out and said that Osi will be on the team next year (i know.. i know.. never believe an NFL executive around draft time) I really find it hard to believe that Tuck, Osi, Kiwi, JPP, Hill, and tollefson will all be on the team this year. I believe that Kiwi's deal is up next year, maybe he's the most likely to be traded?
as for the three day draft, last night was fine, it moved along at a decent pace. maybe i'll watch a little tonight, but i can't see myself watching that for three days in a row. heck, even baseball has more action... and that's saying alot being that i'm a Mets fan.
Tebow goes to Denver and McCoy and the ND QB wait another day to hear their names... that's why we watch the draft. Ya never can tell.
Not really sure why the Eagles needed two undersized DEs and a QB. Maybe they should have addressed some of the offensive line issues. Anyway, typical Eagles.
LT arrested, possible rapist?
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AnceN591E3un2MRADWxpOiA5nYcB?slug=ap-lawrencetaylorarrested
Not you. You only posted the story, I mean the posts after ( remember Tiger thread lol)
Yes, let's not jump to conclusions. I'm sure there are plenty of legitimate reasons for why a 16 year old girl would be in the hotel room of a 51 year old former drug addict. At least it wasn't in the bathroom of a club.
Sorry Clyde but I honestly did try to resist...
Say it ain't so..... must be karma for my bashing of Philly fans on the other thread. I sure hope this isn't true, LT is one of my favorite players ever. I have been able to look past the drugs because he was only really hurting himself, but it this turns out to be true.... then he's pretty much dead to me. LT always had his demons when it came to the addiction, but he never seemed like that bad of a guy. I really hope this isn't true.
If your gonna play, you must pay!! OH stupid him. Go directly to jail. Loser pig!!! Just because he's a big time elitest FB player does not give him the right to thumb his nose to the law. But then again most fans will "feel sorry" for him. THEY and I mean ALL of them are the "real" losers of our society.
emaxxman, I just read that Tony Romo shot a 71 in a U.S. Open qualifier. Now, he's officially a subpar golfer in addition to being a subpar quarterback, lol.
FOOTBALL!!! I'm so happy this thread came up! Training camp at Lehigh will be coming up soon for me :)
Mr. Vick in a bad situation again. Leopards just don't change their spots. People who hang around in shady situations will always do so....
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5342532&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines
I don't think he did anything wrong by attending the party. It was at a restaurant at least and not a bar. Per the reports, the people that he was told to stay away from were not invited. The guy crashed the party. Vick can't be blamed for it.
With that said, I do think he knows who the shooter is and probably knew it was going to happen prior to the shooting taking place. Just read a report that his brother Marcus, a worse punk than Michael, may have been directly involved in the shooting.
Whether Vick gets suspended again, his career is over. As a QB, he was mediocre. His talent was in his speed and that is all but gone.
This story kind of got trampled under the holiday weekend. JaMarcus Russel....latest NFL idiot bordering a complete loser. Two month probe reveals codeine syrup???? Interesting.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5358929
Favre says he will not return to Vikings or elsewhere......
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5433551
Who believes it? If he doesn't go back, the Vikings will realy be kicking themselves for not picking up McNabb.
Ooops, sorry didn't see the invidudual post by Greg. Well, it's about time we bring up this offseason thread again anyway with camps underway.
How do you all feel about the Revis thing? Show me the $$$$$$$$
