Hair Straightening

I'm looking for a local hair salon that does the Japanese Hair Straightening method. Can anyone recommend someone good in NJ.

Forgive a poker straight-haired Irishwoman who has wished for curls all her life -- but don't the Japanese have naturally straight hair? Wouldn't another ethnicity be more expert at hair straightening than the Japanese? What am I missing here. Somebody, toss me a clue.

I would recommend Keratin straightening rahter than japanese , it's much better ofr your hair. I got it done at LIghten up and love it!

How long did your hair stay straight for $500.00? Or should I say, how long should your hair have stayed straight before it broke off?

Re: Hair Straightening

Dolly - the ultra straight hair is a product of artificial assistance. Naturally straight hair is no where near as flat and straight as most desire. However, it is true that Asians of oriental descent have a higher occurrence of that highly desired straight hair.

Here's an example of an Asian that was not so fortunate.

I have the ultimate curly kinky Italian hair. Damn you Dad....LOL

Anyway, I was told it would be about $800 to get my hair straightened.....yikes!!! I can straighten it on my own with a round brush, blow dryer with a diffuser and a straightening iron. Takes about an hour and it's a lot cheaper than $800 and the possiblity of a chemical fall out mishap.

I'm with Calico! Love what you have!!! I love my curls and am thankful for the blessing god has bestowed upon me. God bless us everyone. To hell with Timmy, . . . my curls are more important. Besides, Timmy is such a whiner.

I used to iron my sister's hair on an ironing board back in the 60's. I kid you not.

I've had my hair done the Japanese Method (AKA Thermal Reconditioning) several times now, but have driving out to NYC to get it done since I hadn't found a local salon to do the job. It lasts a good 10 months until you have enough growth to start craving another dose, but it is so worth the money. The length of time it lasts depends on your hair type...for curlier hair it may last a little less. Unfortunately I wasn't blessed with curly or straight hair...just frizzy mess. I used to go the opposite direction and get a perm or body wave to give me a more desireable look for those days I just dont have the time or energry to blow it out. But the Japanese method make for great wash and go straight hair. No blow dry needed! I had the Keratin job done last January and I'm sorry to say that it was the biggest waste of $350! It washed out in only 2 months. So I went back to the Japanese method. The reason the Japanese have perfected this method is because many of them actually have kinky and frizzy hair. Thanks for the local tips. I'll check those out. If anyone else has any suggestions please let me know.

Google Japanese Hair Straightening or Thermal Reconditioning for more information.

I called the salons you all mentioned but they only offer the Keratin treatment. If anyone else has any suggestions I would be most appreciative :)

Again....I'm looking for someone that does the Japanese straightening method...also known as Thermal Reconditioning.

Thanks again for your help!

Haha I once ironed my hair with my friends like four years ago, it works really well!! Someone once told me, we have hair on our head to remind us that we can't always get what we want.

Hi. I wanted to let you know I had my hair straightened using the Japanese hair straightening method. I went to the nail place next to panera, they do hair also! Anyway, I was very happy with the results, it lasted almost a year and then I went back and had it done again! It wasn't cheap, but I was very happy with the end result! Any questions feel free to ask.

why dont you just buy a good flatiron and some straightening hair product (chi is good) and do it yourself? not sure how much hair you have though.. i have thick wavy hair but I can make it pin straight ! it doesnt take that long.. and its not $800

I wouldn't trade my curls. I can straighten my hair with the straightening iron and it stays straight until I wash it (unless it is humid and/or gets wet). I think it's much harder for a woman with straight hair to curl their hair with a curling iron and get it to stay.

I too like the option... except for when I feel like there's a poodle on my head or when someone in class starts to pull at the curlfro!

Tracy I have pin straight hair and wish that I had the option to make my hair curly! You're luck you get the option, I would love to at least have some wave and body to my hair. I try and try and it just falls out like an hour later and my sister is a hairstylist so even she can't help :(

I tried Keratin at DePasquale's and it didn't take either. I have super curly, frizzy and coarse hair!

Maggie how did it go? Did you try the place by Panera?
