Lost Fans
I'm anxiously awaiting tomorrow nights premeire. Should be an interesting final season. Any other fans out there?
Bittersweet, but can't wait for Lost to start tomorrow. I really hope that we find out all the mysteries before the series ends.
Jenn - no sorry. never saw that one. I really don't watch many shows, mostly sports.
I can't wait to see what is the deal on the island after the bomb went off.
Another LOST fan here. Ready for three hours of it tomorrow. But do any of us really believe we're going to come away with the answers?
We could probably use a HL LOST fans' study group.
Lost and Sons of Anarchy are my only two must see shows. Last year I went 5 months without watching TV.
I'm hoping that we get ALL of the answers instead of more questions....We shall see :)
im excited for it! it would be nice for the mysteries to start unveiling, so many crazy things on that island i dont even remember them all
I think I will watch last season's finale tonight, just to refresh my memory of what the heck is going on....LOL
Thrilled to see this post! I agree with Cbel - we should have a post after the first episode. Just saw the last episode last week - which answered alot of Questions... yet created more questions,,,,
I think its the epic battle between good and Evil - Was jacob the good guy? Jacobs last words ..."They're coming"....
Can't wait!!!!
I have been trying to squeeze in the whole last season...I watched last seasons finale when it aired last week and i realised that I had forgot a lotof stuff hence re-watching the whole season. Love it!
Cannot wait to see my boy Sawyer tomorrow night........who thinks that Charlie is alive? I do!!!!!
dd is just finishing up last season, cannot stop talking about it starting tomorrow. I don't watch, too confusing and requires way too much thought for me.
pumpkin43, I always had a feeling Charlie was still alive.
I definitely need to watch the first hour--series recap. It's so long between seasons that it's hard to remember what the hell is going on. :o)
DH and I watched the enhanced versions of The Incident Parts 1 & 2 last night. We were amazed at how much of what happened we had forgotten.
A little more that a half an hour until the new season starts. I'm hoping we can have good speculation conversations on here this season. I tried a thread last season, but it just fizzled out :(
Well...what did everyone think?
Definitely a "good vs. evil" element between Jacob and "Locke".
I like where they're kind of starting to go...like even if they never crashed on the island, they'd all end up meeting and knowing each other anyway.
Hmmm any theories?
WARNING SPOILERS.....IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN LAST NIGHT'S EPISODES YET, DO NOT READ FURTHER.
Very interesting that Shannon wasn't on the plane but Desmond was. Seems as if there are two separate realities now.
The Man in Black is able to assume the personalities of dead people. I wonder if Jacob can do the same. Was thinking maybe Sayid is now Jacob. But who knows. Guess there is going to be a big battle with the smoke monster.
Interesting that Kate landed up in a cab with Claire and Jack gave his business card to Locke.
Looks like there is another alternate reality - because they they blew up the hydrogen bomb- on the island...
Is it a reality of Opposites? Hugo is "lucky" Sayid - looked somewhat passive, Sawyer was kind... all with the exception of Locke - who is still in a wheel chair.
Interesting statements by the characters were said "Jack: Anything is reversible - and Charlie said "I was supposed to die".
Interesting....
Locke was still in the wheelchair, but he still had a different reality. As he told Boone, he DID get to go on the walkabout. Nobody told him what he couldn't do!
Jack and Rose were in opposite roles as well. Jack was scared when the plane hit turbulence and Rose was calm. It was the other way around originally.
OMG I can't believe I missed the last 15 minutes. I fell asleep... I'll have to watch it over again. That's okay tho. I always miss clues the first time that I catch the second time.
I hope we find out more about the others living in the Temple....
and if Jacob is really Sayid...
Ahhh, jacob is Sayid!!! Interesting theory- So Locke and Sayid will eventually duke it out. Locke is possessed by the smoke monster and Claire is possibly possessed by christian. Quite a bit of possessions going on here.
Is the island purgatory or just an experiment? That's what I want to know.
Maja, you can watch last week on hulu. LA X part 1 and 2.
http://www.hulu.com/lost
Whoa what's up w/Claire going all French chick? Obviously Sayid is not Jacob and has the sickness that killed Danielle's people.
hmmm.
Yesterdays episode:
Sayid - has changed from warrior sayid to a wimpy type of character...
where did the leader of the temple come from ? how long has he been on the island?
when claire and kate were at the hospital - how come ethan was attending to her? (Ethan was one of the others) how did he know the babys name was aaron?
the woman who turned down claires babay adoption.. Juliettes sister? (alternate reality)???
other Questions remain...
Is richard dead??? (or Recardus - his latin name?)
Thanks Reggie, I did get to see the episode. I don't know why I thought we would be getting lots of Lost answers. It seems like there are so many more questions, it would be impossible to answer them all by the las episode. I know that during the summer, I will be watching the season recap with subtitles and expanations!
newbie - I think the Ethan thing is similar to some of the flashbacks when Richard was seen in Lostie's pasts. We already know that some move between the Island and the "real" world.
Regarding Juliette sister, thinking back to Juliette's flashback of when her parents were splitting up I thought the sister had very dark hair not blonde. But who knows.
I don't believe Richard is dead.
Calico ! thanks for the reminder! I do remember that flashback with Richard at the hospital! good insight -
jRSEMOM - thanks ! i totally missed that - ...
I find it hard to get to sleep after a lost episode - Its like piecing a puzzle - connecting the missing dots . . .
.
Another Lost "Easter egg". When Sun and Jin were at the airport and Jin was being questioned and his stuff searched, they weren't wearing wedding rings and Sun was addressed as Ms. Paik (her maiden name).
Also, the stuffed animal Kate finds in Claire's luggage is the same stuffed orca whale Aaron is carrying as a toddler when Kate and Jack fight about him.
Good episode on Locke last night. Interesting how the characters lives, in the alternate time line, are still intertwined.
I'm not happy that Sawyer is hooking up with Locke/MIB/Smoke Monster.
Lost Fans.... the ending??? will Sawyer and "Locke" leave the island? Is "Locke" the good guy? Or simply this evil entity...The names etched on the ceiling???? who etched the names? He thru the rock off the scale... what was the significance?
Why are the others terrified of "locke" - is it because he wants to end the islands mystique?
htown newbie, if you noticed, one of the rocks on the scale was white, the other black and they were in balance. Good vs. Evil, Jacob vs. "Locke"/MIB/Smoke Monster. "Locke" threw away the white one.
I loved seeing the connections with people from the island in Locke's alternate life.
I watched the show on demand...what did the previews for next week show?
Thanks Calico. My cheap ass computer at work doesn't have speakers so it's a little hard to follow. I'll watch later from home.
Excellent blog on last Tuesdays episode. A little long but worth reading.
http://www.fancast.com/blogs/2010/tv-news/lost-starts-to-add-up-finally/?cmpid=FCST_tvnews
Did you ladies also watch the 3-4 minute "Lost Untangled" video at the bottom? Kind of funny.
Tonights episode was really good....still very confused about the parallel lives. And where did David, Jacks son come from and who is the mom?
Where is Christian? Wierd that his body is missing in both "worlds"
I am guessing that David came from Jack's wife the one he operated on with the broken back.
I thought tonights episode was good also.
Is the young boy actually Jacob. When he died did he go back to being a child to be at a disadvantage in the "game". He spoke of the rules to Not John Locke. It is pretty clear that Christian/Jack are at the center of this mystery. Does anyone know when the final episode airs. I am putting that on the calender now.
UGH!!!!!!!!!!! I missed last nights episode! In 3.5 years, this is the first time I ever had a problem with DirecTV.
Was it good?
Firefly-If this is correct, the last episode is 4/27/10, called 'The Candidate' http://www.tv.com/lost/show/24313/episode.html
FF - I'm with you on the chick that Jack operated on being the Mom of David. Jacob just pisses me off, never tells a damn thing. Will be interesting to see the relationship between Locke/MIB and Claire unfold.
Did anyone notice that 3 people told Jack "I hope you find what you are looking for...
This was asked in both Paralle lives.... Jack finally found his fathers remains...(was that what he was looking for...?)
Crazy Claire took over the Crazy French lady role - (Crazy french lady who was murdered). Both Children were taken...supposedly, claires son is still off the island.... (or so we think!).
The temple... why does Jin want to go back to the temple with Crazy claire and Non Locke??? Will they destroy the temple?
Is Jack the "savior" of the Island, and will the other remaining survivors - take the place of the people in the temple?
And what about my sexy Sawyer???? I missed him last night!
Sorry I just do not get the attraction to bad boy Sawyer. LOL I am trying to mind you and at moments ( like when his shirt is off) I almost get it.

A little birdie told me that Jack will die a couple episodes before the end of the season. Not sure if it's true or not.
FF - Wow how can you not think Sawyer is hot? I think he's smokin' :)
You're right, Calico. Sawyer's the best thing to come along on TV in a very long time!
Shirt on, shirt off, bad guy, good guy, whatever. He's amazing!
Yummy. Nothing like good Eye candy... I'm hoping he's on next week. need my Sawyer fix.
WOW great episode last night.
Sayid is one bad a** dude!!!! Can't believe he took out Dogen and the hippie type dude. Crazy that Nadia is married to the brother!!! We also apparently see that Sun's father has some type of connection to American organized crime. Pretty crazy to see Keemey again.
Where the heck is Sawyer???
Please confirm or deny: That was Jack in the hospital when Sayid and Nadia went running in to see his brother.
JJ Abrams must have a real liking for "Alice in Wonderland" because in his old show Alias there were so many ties to it on that show also.
I had to watch last weeks episode last night since I had missed it. The part where Jack and Hurley were at the lighthouse looking at "the looking glass" was kind of cheesy....'jumped the shark' in my opinion, but at least it's near the end of the series.
Does anyone know who the guy was that Sayid killed, the guy that was cooking eggs? He looks so familiar, I can't figure out what show/movie I saw him in.
Jenn - The guy cooking eggs was Keemey the soldier-type dude that shot Danielle/Ben's daughter Alex on the island.
Ready to hear my Lost theories???? Non - Locke - Since he's on a mission to destroy the Island - will he kill the inhabitants and all? thus the Alternate reality lives on... Is he truly evil incarnate?
should the Island be saved - the lost survivors have been destined to take the orginal survivors Place:
Jack = Jacob
Sawyer = Non lockes
Crazy Claire= Replaced Crazy French woman
Sayid = Dojen
Hugo = Richard
Where does Kate fall in this??? and how abt the other team sent to protect the island?
Can't wait for next week. Where's Sawyer hiding????
Newbie - I have seen that theory posted elsewhere. Some believe that if a lostie dies on the island they are sent to the alternatre reality. Definitely a possibility.
It seems like if the Island Dwellers die they go to an alternative reality not the other way around. Otherwise where is Shannon, Charlie, Boone and all the others?
Here's a good review of this week's show.
http://www.fancast.com/blogs/2010/tv-news/lost-sundown-the-heart-of-darkness/?cmpid=FCST_tvnews
Firefly - "Otherwise where is Shannon, Charlie, Boone and all the others?"
The cycle of life continues when you play the game of backgammon - stones
don't go away after they're hit, they just sit on the bar for a minute then
re-enter back somewhere else. Right?
The obvious one is Boone = Aaron. (Calico, you caught that, right? ;-)
Charlie = Alex and Shannon = Walt.
Thank you cbel and Calico I thought I was being a total dunce.
Furthermore -Charlie = Alex and Shannon = Walt HUH?
Aaron Boone as in the baseball player. I thought Calico would have recognized the name as a baseball fan.
Calico - Boone is not Aaron, Aaron is Boone. (Aaron is born the moment Boone dies) When Boone dies he makes a big deal of not saving him as if it's meant to be. Then Locke says it's a necessary sacrifice. Why? The very next thing you see in the show is Aaron being born. The timing is too close for coincidence - Boone is reincarnated as Aaron. The whole backgammon analogy of getting hit, sitting on the bar, and then coming back in is another way of stating reincarnation.
The other characters follow similar logic - when Charlie dies he hears a message from Penny. They learn the message was really from years ago and first recorded "right when Alex was born". Shannon I'm not as sure about, but right before Shannon is shot, she has all of these dreams about Walt. I figured that was her way of getting "reborn" as him.
Where they get reborn to makes some sense to me. Boone & Shannon are both believers in good, but Boone can't seem to get it right while Shannon does. Their foils are Jack and Claire who are believers in science and also half brother/sister. As a product of Claire, Aaron should turn out to be a scientist who does get it right. Shannon goes in the other direction and becomes a believer in bad as Walt tries to tear down Michael's good works. Reincarnation is supposed to provide balance via karma, so that's why rebirth should mean some things remain similar but others change. (sort of like the two different paths that happen after the six come to the island)
GC - of course I know Aaron Boone the baseball player. Wasn't thinking that way at all in the "Lost" sense.
I like your theories though. Thanks for 'splaining Ricky :)
GC: We need a Panera "LOST" coffee klatch (or something). You can be leader. I'll take notes for anyone who can't make it. I am in awe of your memory of past characters.
cbel - I'm not sure I really want to be "leader" even though I'm happy to share all my theories. Trying to remember all these people is half the fun - but you really need those "enhanced" pop ups because otherwise they just blow on by way too fast.
I'd be happy to do it over a lunch as well. A couple of us were planning to do Clay Oven a while back but it snowed that day. Let me know.
GC: OK, don't be leader. Where's Clay Oven? I'm game. Let me know. We can coordinate our calendars and see who else is interested and can make it. A weekend is good for me, too.
Interesting theory - Debunks some of my biblical theories! thanks GC! Look forward to a lost lunch!
I found an interesting read: http://backgammon.co.uk/lost-in-backgammon-and-the-other-way-around-.html
.....And that's where backgammon comes in. Backgammon has made its first guest performance already in the pilot, when a character named Locke, introduced backgammon game's history and rules to a character named Walt. What raises lots of questions and suspicious. Do they play the oldest board game in the world because they are not just plane crush survivors but the first humans created by god? Does the war between the light and dark pieces on the game board symbolize a good vs. evil battle? And the fact that backgammon is played with 15 checkers (to each player), while 15 is the second recurring number in the series, while 8, 16 and 23 appear on the doubling cube (in right or reversed order), must have a meaning too.
So Lost followers are forced to be interested in backgammon to relieve some of the fog, still they are not happy with the landing of backgammon sites promoters in their comments area, or in Wes words:
"Wow, an internet backgammon expert! Weird."
GC - Thanks! Throws my biblical theory out the window! Jacob (Jacobs ladder to heaven?). The epic battle between good and evil, brother against brother (Cain and able) etc.
LOCKE: Backgammon is the oldest game in the world. Archeologists found sets when they excavated the ruins of ancient Mesopotamia. Five thousand years old. That’s older than Jesus Christ.
WALT: Did they have dice and stuff?
LOCKE: [nods] Mhhm. But theirs weren’t made of plastic. Their dice were made of bones.
WALT: Cool.
LOCKE: Two players. Two sides. One is light … one is dark. Walt, do you want to know a secret?
cbel - It's at the Ledgewood Circle, good Indian buffet. I'll check with the other two and see if we can't arrange this. We're looking at doing it on a Wed.
calico - I don't think Charlie actually died then, Jack got to him in time. He was hanged by Ethan, a candidate, which means under those circumstances he would really die. But blown up randomly = reincarnation. I think that's part of the rules, the contestants can't kill each other or each other's "pieces". Only the pieces can kill each other, ie only a candidate can kill a candidate.
htown newbie - The show throws in Greek mythology, Egyptian myths, Buddhism, believers in pure science, plus Judeo/Christian ideas. My thoughts are that it's bigger than a biblical contest alone. It's more of a contest between both good and evil as well as various religious and non-religious beliefs. That's why there are 6 main candidates and other minor ones. All in the name of preventing the end of the world. (ie who ever wins the game "experiment" shows who needs to be the candidate) I look forward to hearing biblical ideas since I have a lot of them from an Eastern perspective.
GC: I have a doctor's appointment scheduled for the next two Wednesdays, so go ahead without me if that's when you all can make it. Maybe someone else can take notes and post on the forum.
BTW, I need to have some heart surgery and these appts are preliminaries. I'm actually hoping to have the surgery after the LOST finale. Talk about a fan!
I'm game for a "Lost" lunch. I have a ton of vacation time that I need to take before the end of June so I'm in.
I rechecked my calendar and my appt on Wednesday the tenth isn't until late afternoon, so that date is good for me.
I can't do the 10th have a meeting...waaaaah (crying hysterically...LOL)! Have fun everybody.
jrsemom and Alison have said they'll join us on the 10th. Sorry to hear you can't make it after all Calico.
Noon is fine with me. Is it Clay Oven for sure? Where exactly on 46 is it?
Calico, I'm sorry you can't make it. I was looking forward to hearing your theories. Of course, you could always call in sick. We'd never tell.
jesemom: I don't know that place either. Can I have another landmark? Is it before the Ledgewood Mall? Or, I'll go back to their website or mapquest.
Coming down 46 where 46 and 10 meet the motel will be in front of you Smiles 2 will be on the left. You'll want to make the left to stay on 46. Then a right into the parking lot.
It's a pretty quick right after you turn to continue on 46, so be careful. If you remember the old circle, then it's the very first thing on 46 after the circle. So if you are at the Ledgewood Mall then you went the wrong way because that's on 10. You have to make that left on to 46 and it's literally the very first thing on the right. If you go past it, then you end up at KFC on the right or on the left is Walgreens and then McDonalds after that.
Just think of the old circle and the 46 headed towards Dover side and you've got it.
Website is http://www.theclayoven.com - As the name implies, their specialty is BBQ things done in the clay oven (tandoori). But their lamb in particular is really excellent as is their dal (lentils). Lunch is buffet style with salads and chutney's, tandoori chicken done in the clay oven, the curry of the day, basmati rice, 2-3 vegetable choices often with a deep fried veg (pakora), and a desert option.
Clyde - nice to hear you might make it, haven't seen you in a bit.
Sounds delicious GC. I've never been to the Clay Oven, but I love Indian food. Believe it or not, the best Indian I ever had was last summer in St. Louis.
I have a St Louis client out by the airport (Earth City) and have been there, St Louis and St Charles often. Where was the Indian you had out there? I've been to loads of NJ and NY Indian food from Manhattan to Edison to this area. I grew up with it at age 12 out of the country where 50% of the population was of Indian origin.
GC - It was in a neighborhood called Central West End. There are tons of upscale restaurants there, if you are not familiar with it. The restaurant was called Rasoi and not only was the food good but the place was really funky and the owner and his wife were two of the nicest people we have ever met. Also, the Indian beer was tasty :)
http://www.rasoi.com/
Calico - Been in central St Louis once or twice but mostly outside. Outside mostly west, but well west of there as in like St Charles. Or some really big mall southwest where more of the employees actually lived.
Unfortunately Alison and I won't be able to make it to lunch on Wed. I just realized today that the middle school has half days Wed, Thurs and Fri. Have fun.
So who does that leave? I'll be there if GC goes. Anyone else?
GC: If you've changed your mind, that's OK with me. Otherwise, I'm game. Let me know.
cbel - I haven't changed my mind, I'm there often enough I'd still go even if I'm a table of one. I think it leaves you, me, htown newbie (although it doesn't look like they've said much since first coming up with the suggestion for a lunch) and possibly Clyde??
So, GC, I guess I'll see you on Wed. I'd rather make it at 12:30 or 1:00 if that's OK w/you. I have a 3:15 appt in Summit. But I can still do noon and kill time before my appointment.
cbel - My office is close and I'm the boss so I set the hours. What ever is fine with me. ;-)
Well how about that, here's Ben now:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1OXAi7rNMg
He's not sorry, he's angry he can't manipulate both sides any more...
Hmmm does Ben play Backgammon???? In the alternated reality - last episode Ben referred to a LOST island before the bell rang....
Have to work tomorrow - wish I could join you for lunch - but will be there in spirit in my Alternate reality.....
The island Ben was talking about in the preview was Elba. On which, Napolean spend some time I believe.
htown newbie - sorry to hear you won't be joining us. The coming clip that's out now shows more. The island he was talking about in the classroom is Elba where Napoleon was exiled to. Ben says the real issue isn't the exile, but loss of power - better off dead than powerless. The announcer then talks about Ben meeting his "Waterloo". It'll be interesting to see how far the writers carry the analogy. People have the impression that Napoleon died at Waterloo but instead he was held captive by the British until he died. The clips imply he dies, but instead will not Locke's recruits hold him captive to keep him powerless.
Obviously - I haven't seen the clip!
Interesting...Ben is so Napolean Like... and lets not mention his Ego and his loss of power and status.
By the way - Where is Richard? AKA Ricardus?
htown newbie - clip at http://www.abc.com/lost just wait for the ad, and another clip first, then you'll see the one with Ben in the classroom.
Where is Richard? Last we knew he was trying to get Sawyer away from not Locke and back to the temple. But that didn't work. But all of a sudden Ilana, Ben, and Frank show up at the temple to try to save who ever can be saved. I think that explains where Richard was - he knows the temple isn't going to be safe any more and goes back to the beach to get the marines to stage a rescue.
Peggy - by "marines" I meant people trying to rescue the people at the temple. As in Ilana, Ben, and Frank - didn't they seem like the swooped right in, and swoop right out like paratroopers or something?
Calico - at various times Jacob talked about a specific person, but also used "they" at least once. One person has been revealed, but are we done? Widmore is a good theatrical device to provide answers in order to wrap the show up. I would have liked to have it been Eloise on the sub instead, but that's me. Neither wants the island game to end but Charles wants it for all the wrong reasons. Coming from Eloise there might be a chance the ending is more up beat. Then again, I don't predict an entirely satisfying ending to the whole thing.
I want to know what's going on with Desmond and Penny. I think he holds a key to something here.
Thanks for the clarification GC...there is so much going on with Lost that I thought maybe I really did miss something :-)
I think that's an *excellent* thought Calico. If it is two people coming back, not one, then Desmond is the one that "the island isn't done with yet". ;-)
I'm thinking that Desmond is so important to the island that it is the reason why Widmore didn't want Penny to marry him.
How was the Lost Lunch? Any good theories?
Ooops forgot I wanted to post the link for that good weekly blog.
http://www.fancast.com/blogs/2010/tv-news/lost-recap-napoleon-dynamite-history-lessons-...-and-elba/
Calico - the lunch was fun, great catching up with cbel. Only thing is, the format of just two people doesn't lend itself to someone writing up notes. That's a gentle way of saying we threw in everything and the kitchen sink into it - but we have nothing really in the way of notes. (cbel did write down the list of who's now left in the smoking club, and who's in the smoke enders - but that's literally it)
I did mention my ideas on Desmond - Penelope in Greek mythology is the wife of Odysseus (sp?) and that all relates to the tapestry Jacob had. (it's got Egyptian Gods on it, but also words in Greek that are about Odysseus) cbel added she saw the whole story of different people all having different connections like a tapestry with each person being a thread. Some threads are different colors, some are long, some short, some more winding than others, etc. etc.
So if Desmond represents that - and it fits because Oddysseus was lost at sea, ie sailing around the world and lands on the island - then you're right Calico. Who would want a hero for a son in law? Is probably only going to bite you in the butt if you're using the island for personal gain...
How about this - since each topic was a long discussion, maybe I can just list the topics and who ever wants to talk about the topic can chime in and get a discussion going on it.
Topics we covered:
1. The big picture - I said about how the end of the world is coming and all the characters represent different combinations of religious/not religious/scientists/etc and they all have different reactions and agendas
2. Choice vs. destiny - easy quick agreement here is there is choice, but I added not Locke is a liar that tries to make it seem like there isn't and/or that he's in control
3. Hurley & Miles - to us both really interesting characters
4. Richard - started to talk about him and got side tracked
5. Jin - why was tied up? My thoughts are he just failed to kill Keamy which was a mission Sun's father sent him on.
6. How I thought the writers came up with the story - new Egyptian mummy discoveries, south pacific "lost" civilization of Nan Madol, search for source of Homer stories, and Christian archeology all were Discovery/A&E subjects a couple of years back. Wizard of Oz and Lewis Carrol come from writer's previous series.
7. How will it end - I mentioned what I said on the forum, Widmore is a good way to get everything all wrapped up because he knows so many of the answers
8. Also said I just had two "coincidences" in relation to lost yesterday and the day before - one about what I was reading, and the other a copy of Watchtower left on my door step
I'm sure there were a couple of other things but that's about the best I can do for notes at the moment. If we get talking, I'm sure the rest will come out. Another thing cbel said that I think also was a really nice sentiment - sometimes we get all wrapped up in the details of who did or said what and we forget to just sit back and enjoy the story.
PS. The *very* second I finished that, the Bud Light spoof commercial on Lost came on. The one where the guy finds the beverage cart of the airplane downed on an island. If the island was an unending source of Rolling Rock, do you think you'd ever leave Calico?? ;-)
Hmmm.... Freewill (choice) Vs Destiny?
Sawyer? he's been invisible...
Ben: will non locke be surprised when he finds Ben went to the other side? Will Non lock seek retribution?
relationships: smokers vs the Non smokers: Brother turns against Brother. what about Kate - How does she fit in? which side does she take?
Htown - the sides were specifically part of the discussion we had. There was the scene when Sayid, Claire-voyant, Kate and all come to not Locke from the Temple. There are knowing grins and winks from not Locke to Sayid and Claire-voyant. But not Locke has a real eye browse raiser when he sees Kate. Then juxtapose that with the reuniting scene on the beach where Richard brings Hurley and Jack to see Ilana, hugs all around, hand shakes by Frank, and then a real eye browse raiser to see Ben there.
That's the set up - Kate trying to "save" Claire-voyant puts her in with the smokers unexpectedly just as Ben's decision not to kill Ilana has gotten him unexpectedly on the smoke enders.
As for Sawyer-them-in-half, he's probably already on Hydra, should be the first person everyone sees there.
GC - What did you two eat yesterday? You review the conversation, but not the actual meal....LOL
GC - Brilliant!
Claire-voyant and Sawyer-them-in-half!!!
Hugo=Huge???
Sayid: Used as a title for a descendant of the family of Muhammad. ...
Calico - it was the typically excellent Clay Oven buffet as I described before we went. It was some deep fried potato pakora, I like to dip those in the mint sauce. Tandoori chicken, always good, never spicy at all, with a slice of lemon squeezed over it. Chicken Jalfrezi was the curry of the day, just a touch spicy with a nice cardamon flavor and a touch of cilantro. Vegetable dishes were dal makhani, particularly nice lentils in a buttery sauce, vegetable korma with coconut milk, and keema saag which is a creamy spinach and mild, bean curd like cheese. There was a desert too which I think was rice pudding, but we didn't eat that anyway.
htown newbie - I tend to say "I-think-I'm-going-to-Hurley" but I didn't want to say that at lunch time. I like the guy so I have trouble saying stuff like that, or make fun of his weight. I tend to think of the "hurl" thing as he's so sick and tired of people who darn well know the right thing and just don't have the guts to do it.
I think you've got the writer's reference to Sayid correct, but I like to think of Jurrah as "hurrah! hurrah! the witch is dead, we're off to see the wizard....". But then I'm "pro-munchkin" so what do I know? ;-)
Boy we didn't even cover names like Mr Eko Eko Eko Eko Eko, or "I Don't Know" Jack, the Shephard who lost his sheep, or I-can-see-"4"-Miles, or Charles Wid-more-money- than-he-knows-what-to-do-with. I will say I use "John Locked-in-place" during lunch.
Any one else play with doing one of these?
http://lost-promo-contest.abc.go.com/published/6376
LOL, I wouldn't have the first clue where to start. I'm really not too technologically advanced. Go for it GC!
Firefly - that link is the one I did, the userid is the business name. Only thing is I used all of their scenes and music. There's only some many things you can do with it. I really wanted to have Hurley walking down the beach while "The Girl From Ipanema" plays in the background.
So what were your thoughts about last nights lost???
Sawyer (sigh) alternate reality - (what was the book on his drawer - I couldnt catch it?)
We finally got to see Widmore and his henchmen in the sub - What does he truly want from the island? and how were those people from the plane really killed? and why did n-Locke truly send Sawyer to meet these people?
Im still on the fence with N-locke. not sure if heis "evil incarnate"
How about the new, wimpy, Reincarnated Sayid (the new Ben???)
Next week -the story of Ricardus!
This week's blog.
http://www.fancast.com/blogs/2010/tv-news/lost-recon-recap-sawyer-undercover/
htown newbie, the book on Sawyer's dresser was Watership Down.
I cant believe I accidentally lost the post I was working on.
Watershipdown - not only possibly a reference to the sub "ship down under water", but smart rabbits. Not dumb rabbits that Kate eats. Watership down rabbits were also chased by technology (land development) which is the same as technology gone wrong as in all of the car accidents. (don't forget Sun's father makes the cars)
Did you see the pop-up version of Dr Linus, htown?? It specifically mentions Wid-more-money-than-he-knows-what-to-do-with wants to possess the island. That means he can't let smokey destroy it, yet can't let a goodie two shoes be the next protector. They wouldn't let him abuse the power.
Killed people I figure is not Locke - there's a time when he isn't at the temple and he isn't with Claire-voyant either. I don't think it's Widmore as he says although Charles faked the plane crash victims. A third option relates to Richard but I don't believe the path that leads to. I would figure the Widmore decpetion before that.
Good catch on not Locke sending Soy-her-in-half to Hydra. Clearly he's freaking not Locke, he knows darn well what's happened there, and who's there. He needs Sawyer to find out so Sawyer can do his bidding for him. He says it's because he needs Sawyer because of what a great liar he is. Sawyer is a *horrible* liar witness Ava not being fooled by his supposed con. ("you're not that good, I know what a drop is") The only one Sawyer is conning is himself. That's the name of the episode, not recon as in "reconnaissance" but re-con as in the conman gets conned. Smokey wants Sayer to leave but what better way than to let him think the sub is his own idea.
Still think not Locke isn't evil under those circumstances? Why give Ben the rifle? Why not just let him run away instead of killing Ilana? Answer is simple - he gives people the chance to do truly evil because the rule say he can't do it himself. He's not out to just get of the island or he'd just find a way to go. No, he has to cause as much evil as possible in the process.
Reincarnated is the wrong word for Sayid. Reincarnated means he appears as someone else. Rejuvenated or revived yes, because he was dead. And yes the foil there is Ben because that happened to him. But Ben eventually redeemed himself. Sayid still doesn't care about anybody but himself and getting Nadia. Otherwise he would have done something about Kate's attack by Claire-voyant. Wimpy, yes. That's because he sees himself as dead anyway. All these people continue to question themselves and not Locke because they know it isn't really right. If anything Sawyer-them-all-in-half is a new Ben, playing all sides. Sayid is more like Smokey. Sawyer needs to be told not Locke is full of smoke and mirrors, Sayid already knows just doesn't care.
Latin speaking Ricardus says what era he came from not to mention the ship. But it also says who else is around he's related to. The revelations about him are revelations about the island itself and his job. That should be a watershed episode. Then with the Island's purpose at least hinted at, I'm figuring we only have the whole outcome of the battle at the end, plus episodes before to reveal Miles (the process is started by showing him with Swayer), Sun & Jin (what happens when Yin & Yang meet), Desmond, Shannon/Boone (outside sources say the actors were hired to appear during this season), and Smokey himself. I'm figuring the end result is a two parter, so that would account for all the episodes.
GC! Yin and Yang!!! love it!
Alternate reality - Jin was found behind behind door #1, present reality - perhaps Desmond is behind door #2? will there be Door # 3?????)
stay tuned!
htown - I've had the thought Monty Hall might not be hiding a person behind that door. Widmore's got a load of technology to deal with not Locke, he's probably got some other gadgets too. But if it is a person, I don't think it's Desmond. If the Greek myth is followed we may get the proverbial Trojan Horse story. Only thing is that myth says Penelope's husband Odysseus performed the trick - which suggests Desmond should have the hollow horse.
If it is a person, I think it's much more likely Penelope - Widmore wants to keep Desmond away from the island, not take him there to it. And Penelope *has* to be there at the end of the season, she ends *every* season.
Now if you were an evil writer, you'd make the trapped person be Eloise. She's certainly in no good graces with Widmore, and it'd balance her karma to have to be dragged back there. A tricky writer would make it be (Boone -> Aaron) and then you'd have a nice time explaining his half-brother-in-law appearing, or is it his other grandson, or is it both?? [that one will give you a headache every time]
Okay, What? GC, Calico, htown newbie,
Can someone break tonight's episode down for me? Some of it went over my head I think.....
Peggy here's my summary of the episode:
Richard's wife Isabella was dying back in 1867. They are poor and Richard takes every penny and Isabells's necklace to a Dr. to try to get medicine for for. The Dr. says he doesn't have enough money. They struggle and the Dr. fails and smacks his head and dies.
Richard takes the medicine and races on horseback to Isabella. She is already dead when he gets there. Richard is arrested for murder of the Dr. and scheduled to be hanged. A priest discovers that he speaks English. Magnus Hanso (great grandfather of Alvar Hanso, founder of the Hanso Foundation) saves Richard from being hanged and takes him on the Black Rock as a slave.
The Black Rock crashes on the Island, but not before it takes out the freaky statue. So now we know why there is just a foot left. All of the slaves, save Richard, are killed by Hanso and the crew is killed by MIB. Richard is visited my a vision of his dead wife. She tells him that he too is dead and that they are in hell.
MIB frees Richard from his chains. He makes a deal with him in which he can see Isabella again if he kills Jacob. Same stuff as always, don't let him speak etc. just kill him.
Richard goes to kill Jacob and they fight and struggle. Jacob speaks to him before he can kill him.
Jacob explains to Richard that the Island is like a cork that keeps the blackness (badness) from getting out and spreading. He asks Richard if he wants to work for him as his representative. Richard asks him what he can have in return. His requests to have Isabella back and be absolved of his sins are denied. Jacob says he cannot do that. When Richard asks if he can live forever Jacob grants that wish. Now we know why Richard never ages.
Richard returns to MIB and explains why he did not kill Jacob. Also presents MIB a white rock. This must be what they do to each other when they get a recruit. MIB tells Richard that his offer to join him still stands if he ever changes his mind and hand him Isabella's necklace. Richard buries Isabella's necklace.
Present day Richard is so fed up with the whole idea that Jacob used him, that he is ready to join MIB's side. He goes to the Black Rock and yells out that he's changed his mind. He digs up Isabella's necklace.
Hurley shows up and says he's been talking to Isabella. She tells Hurley that Richard must keep MIB from leaving the Island. Says if he gets off the Island they will all go to Hell.
Final scene shows Jacob and MIB. MIB continues to say that he wants to get off the Island Jacob says not while he's alive. MIB says he will kill him and Jacob says that someone will just take his place. MIB says he will kill the replacement as well.
What we learned:
Richard has been on the Island for 100+ years
The reason why Richard doesn't age
Richard speaks Spanish
There is a long connection of the Hansos to the Island
MIB believes all are corruptable
Jacob brings all of the people to the Island to prove MIB wrong
What we didn't learn:
Which of the two, Jacob or MIB, is really the evil one
Why Richard wears that damn eyeliner
What Richard has been doing for th last 100+ years
How long the feud between Jacob and MIB has been going on
Yikes, this show is exhausting....LOL
I thought this was GC's summary until I got to the end. Nice job, Calico. GC: What are your thoughts about last night's show?
Another thing we still don't know:
Who exactly is Ilana and how did she get involved with Jacob?
Thanks Calico! This helps alot! The confusing part for me seems to be that Jacob has been "playing" with people's lives by bringing them to the island. Doesn't that make him a bad guy too?
Calico! Great job...
Thr cross...
There were also a biblical symbols - - ie Jacob dunking ricardo in the water 3 x - (symbol of rebirth...)
The wild hog that seems to appear throughout lost episodes... is that MIB shape shifting into a wild Hog? Pigs are not kosher - unclean animals - 3 clove hoof...
masquerading as Good (priest, doctor) are actually evil in disguise
Redemption Vs absolution ?
Some very significant revelations last night - don't forget the pop up version of Recon, most things were merely reminders but the fact that Charlotte wasn't just young on the island the first time, she was born there was specifically confirmed. (last week Miles was confirmed as also being born on the island)
Good overall summary from Calico, but one thing that should be cleared up. When Richard is purchased as a slave, the guy does say "you are now property of Magnus Hanso". But the Englishman says his name is Jonas Widfield so technically speaking it's really him who decides to buy Richard and saves him from execution. Hanso was never shown, although his name was also invoked a second time during the episode - while in the ship's hold right before smokey is heard above wiping them out, some one says "Captain Hanso is dead".
Now some additional comments on what it all means, because there are some implications thrown out there. Notice how Richard went off the deep end because Ilana says Richard knows what to do next. Richard's all angry because Jacob was supposed to tell him the plan, and died before doing that. Then we see the original deal was going to be he would be a puffer and Ferdinand gets Isabella back. Yet Richard goes through the whole juxtaposition of being told to kill Jacob the same way Dogen told Sayid to get rid of Smokey. (with one exception - the bad guy is said to always appear as a dead person, Jacob is always Jacob) That doesn't happen and then we hear the real story of the island as not "hell" but a locked door on the other side of "hell". And Jacob also admits that he brought Richard there, and that he does this all not just to keep MIB from getting out, but to prove people can be there and meet him and still do good without Jacob's interference. That's a huge bit about not interfering because it's the whole thing of I-don't-know-Jack at the Lighthouse, and smokey telling Richard that he would certainly have told Richard everything unlike that other horrible guy. The point being they always have choice as has been shown over and over, but Jacob totally lets them make the choice while MIB tells them there's only one choice to make.
Richard goes further off the deep end because he wasn't told and wanted to be and so is going towards smokey because he's got the old deal and he figures he can finally be told what the plan is by MIB. Only it doesn't quite work that way. More than that, when reminded of why he did this in the first place, ie Hurley does his best Whoppie Goldberg in Ghost, he doesn't want to trade Isabella back in for his supposed freedom, instead he wants to complete the job. (ps I almost thought at one point Hurley was going to say "Ditto, WTF does Ditto mean??") I took at the fireside chat when Richard ran away he didn't literally say he didn't know what to do, but was saying why are you all looking at me because he didn't want to go any further. It was a moment of losing faith, and needed the Keeper of the Faith to see dead people and restore order.
I want to add to Calico's "not reveal" what I think is as huge as Richard's story - just what exactly is his job? It's been hinted at with Richard's time off the island when he was interrogating the young John Locke about what things were his, and what wasn't. Ben has said he's an "adviser" but advice on what?? What is supposed to happen next has also been foreshadowed by the conversation Jacob and MIB have after Richard takes Jacob's offer. Jacob says he'll keep MIB trapped for ever, MIB says I'll have to kill you, Jacob says I'll be replaced, MIB says I'll just keep killing them. This hints at how you get a winner in the end game - 3 things candidates can do remember, leave, play, accept the job. So everyone in the world needs to be a smoker, or they all need to leave, just anything other than taking the job. Who plays Donald Trump and says "you're hired"?? Ben knows because he's seen it before, he's talked about how extensive a process it is, etc. etc.
Some other quick comments - which one is the evil one I believe is really clear by what I said earlier. If there is any doubt, it's only a game smokey plays. Jacob seems to say make up your own mind, but MIB goes around shouting who it is hoping you'll believe him. (same for calling Jacob the devil but through Ben smokey is called a "security system")
The long connection of Hanso to the island I think really had already been revealed - the captain's journal was sold at auction to Wid-more-information-than-is-safe. That's how Widmore can finally get back to the island. To me the real question would have been how did he know the journal would have that answer? That's what I believe was revealed in this episode - the name "Widfield" is too close, I suspect it's Charle's ancestor.
Why didn't Richard die of smoke inhalation? There was another really similar time when we saw the Darkness go right up to someone, stare them in the face, and lose. That was when we heard an Eko Eko Eko Eko of the 23rd Psalm. It was in Spanish, but I believe Richard when he sees the smoke in the hold starts saying "The Lord is my Shepherd". Or was that "Jack Shepherd is our savior" he was saying in Latin. ;-)
Last comment - notice how Richard was touched on the arm by smokey? But then after not killing Jacob, he gets touched again by Jacob but on the other shoulder.
Ok, so maybe one final comment for Calico - "Why Richard wears that damn eyeliner". Remember when Hurley and Jack catch up with Richard and they ask where he's been. He says "you wouldn't believe me if I told you". Well clearly Manliner was at the day spa for a makeover...
All excellent points GC. BTW, I prefer the term "guyliner" to "manliner" ;-)
Here's this week's Lost Untangled - Dr. Change says guyliner....LMAO
http://abc.go.com/shows/lost/lost-untangled
Dr Chang also says "bromance" so what does he know.
Dr Chang has also sold his soul to MIB - in that Untangled he's got a picture of a young Bill Gates on his desk, and you have to wade through horrid Win 7 ads. ;-)
Apparently Richard isn't wearing guyliner, manliner or eyeliner hmmmmm......
http://www.beautybloggingjunkie.com/2008/12/bbj-interview-lost-s-head-makeup-artist.html
That's right Calico...no eyeliner. I wish I had 1/10th of his eyelashes! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004801/bio
Yay Lost night! Anybody know why the captioned re-run of last weeks episode is not on at 8 tonight? I see that Dancing with the Stars is on instead....crapper!
Speaking of Lost. I just rewatched the second half of last nights episode. I missed a lot of it as I was busy working on the fundraising stuff for Christine's family.
Anyway, so Desmond was apparently locked in the sub. I KNEW IT! We need a Des and Penny episode.
Anybody know what the episode will be next week. We need a Hurley episode as well.
Here's Pierre:
http://abc.go.com/shows/lost/lost-untangled
Desmond. Boring, boring, boring. I was hoping for much more originality there. But, it's true to the story. The Des and Penny story is like the final, final reveal Calico, come on, have some patience. ;-)
I agree about Hurley. But I think Widmore's story needs to come first before Des and Penny's final reveal. Plus Hurley should be really close to the end since I won't be surprised if he becomes a sacrifice in the final, final battle. I think the writers should spare him, but he's so committed there's just nothing he wouldn't do for the final result. I see the final two parter as the Des/Penny as well as Richard's final piece. (there's a last shoe to drop there) If it were me, Hurley would be right before that, and then Widmore/Eloise/Aaron/Shannon episode before that.
What's next week? The most revealing of all the bits of this week was actually the supposed preview that wasn't a "preview". A flash came on the screen that said "A PATH is found". Pierre Chang's wet dream and Jacob's penultimate outcome is the good guys discover on their own how to control their own destiny. Our Defender of the Faith didn't just convince guyliner to give up thoughts of taking up smoking. He got Richard over the fact that Jacob didn't come out and make everything obvious. Richard has now taken the bull by the horns, sort of like I-don't-know-Jack did when he saw the Lighthouse. Richard has become pro-active and has realized he doesn't need Jacob any more. He knows as well as anyone what's right and what's wrong. Jacob's plan is to let Richard make the plan, let Jack lead the horses to water, and let Hurley convince them to drink. Contrast that to a very important bit from the Smokers - the Marlboro Man says to Claire-voyant he needs her, but he also needs Kate. Kate is the key to converting the non-Smokers. Actually it's a lie on Claire-voyant's role, but it looks good because it's the truth about Kate. Claire is needed but it's because he wants to corrupt Aaron. Imagine if Claire and Kate both show up to Aaron who would probably go off the deep end and become Rosemary's baby from the psychological trauma. That's a "post-cork popping" event.
All of that goes south when for the first time the numbers being broadcast to Hanso Central no longer equal 108. Destiny shows itself as a choice and now it's a matter of convincing people it's the right choice. Richard grows a pair, and Jack herds them in the right direction. It'll come down to the wire of course, Jin & Sun aren't so reliable anymore. Yin is bad and Yang is good (cheer for her when she runs from Locke - she doesn't just not trust him, she KNOWS, *and* she won't sacrifice) and never the two
shall really meet.
Absolutely loved last night's episode!!!!!
Freaky that Penny was running in the stadium as opposed to Jack. Farraday/Widmore just freaks me out. Eloise is a creepfest as well. What's with that hair or is it a wig?
What's up w/Des going so willingly with Sayid? Hugo episode next week :)
Pierre is in rare form this week...LOL
http://abc.go.com/shows/lost/lost-untangled
Dynamite interweaving of the sideways time. The crash with Charlie already was reminiscent of the swan blow up before you see Charlie's hand. Not that was the freaky bit last night. If Farraday is creepy what is George? Fisher Stevens is creepy enough in real life...
I think creepy is the wrong word for Eloise - how about wicked. She and Charles have been very, very bad. They've been manipulating events for themselves for far too long. It's interesting she treated Desmond as if he knew, as if he were an Other. For a moment I thought she'd break out into Latin. But all the rest of the story says he was born in Scotland.
Calico - you should have expected Desmond to go willingly. Remember when he's turn into Iron Man in the great magnetic field, he wakes up and says "let's get started" to Charles. Charles was about to explain and Desmond already knows. Desmond saw the sideways, that's the key. In the sideways he's already getting the bleed-throughs even though some of the others do too. (will it be only the dead ones that get the bleed-throughs??) It's not so much the future alone Desmond can see, he crosses the threads. That's the unique ability Charles was talking about. Penelope waits faithfully at home while Odysseus fights the war with Troy. He makes a huge gift out of wood and leaves it for his enemies. Why fight to get Desmond to infiltrate the Smoking Club when he can waltz in. Get it. The "package" is a Trojan Horse...
Penny is out running because she never found love with Desmond. Instead Jack found love with Sharon and had their son. I guess they're trying to make an editorial statement about runners. ;-)
Pierre has got to lose that picture of Gates - they keep moving it to the wrong spot in continuity errors anyway. I love the wig on top of the manikin head, it's like a Shrek chia pet gone bad...
I'm posting this without reading the thread. I'm two weeks behind on my LOST watching because my boyfriend is away. I'm not supposed to watch it without him, so I'm pretty backed up on all my television watching.
Just wanted to let you know that I wasn't "Lost".
WOW, liked last night's episode even better than last week's! Hopefully this will continue to happen with each episode until the end.
Desmond is really showing now that he is the CONSTANT.
Wonder if we'll ever really find out the story of Ilana now that she was blown to smithereens? We finally found out what the jungle whispers mean. Richard seems very desparate now that the Black Rock was blown up and he's still so hell bent on wrecking the plane.
Notice how Des' pick up number at the chicken joint was 42...of course...LOL Loved that Libby showed up again.
Can't believe Flocke threw Des down the well. I gasped out loud when that happened. At least
he's not dead. Seems to be an important episode next week.
Then holy Toledo, Des runs down Locke in the school parking lot in the alternate timeline!!!! He's certainly a man on a mission at this point.
Next weeks episode is called: The Last Recruit (Aaron? Walt? Or does this just related to Flocke recruiting Hugo, Jack and Sun? Who knows...)
Here's Pierre:
http://abc.go.com/shows/lost/lost-untangled
Hmmm, did everyone forget about lost? There are only a few episodes left!!!! Tomorrow's episode is a repeat of the Richard episode. I think I am going to re-watch last week's episode. I missed a few minutes of it here and there.
We can talk about it a bit on Friday. I know 4 of us are fans: Calico, GC, Clyde and me. jrsemom maybe?
and htown newbie!
Sideways world and the lost world are now merging. Desmond seems to be the key to the merging world. Hugo said everyone deserves a second chance. will this be claires 2nd chance? for the the first time Jack and claire acknowledged that they were brother and sister.
Locke saved Jack (on the Island) will Jack save lock in the side ways world?
(GC - Loch monster??? lol).
Interesting how Sayid, Sawyer, kate and (the other guy who talks to dead people) are all together in the penal system in the Sideways world as well as on the island....
stay tuned!
newbie - cbel wasn't trying to exclude you, she was just referring to who was a "Lost" fan that is attending this Friday's HL Lunch.
Desmond is the key to all :)
htown newbie: I would never exclude you and wish you could come to lunch.
Thanks, Calico. :)
htown newbie - I think that would be the Locke-ness Monster. ;-) I tend to say not-Locke though. And that's Miles who sees dead people, don't forget he was born on the Island and is Dr Chang's son. They may all be around law enforcement (Charlie got arrested as well), but they're not all on the same side of it.
A lot has happened, hasn't it? The origin of the Whispers has been revealed. How can the trapped be freed? Or are they doomed? Anyone else think originally the "well" Desmond was thrown into was deeper than deep. Let's just say, for no particular reason, deeper than Hell. ;-) It didn't look too deep when Sayid was about to shoot Desmond did it?
Which adds to the mysteries, right? Did Sayid or didn't he? He certainly left doubt the way he told not Locke. Which reminds me right after that we see the mystery kid again, but you notice how he's already older looking? It looked like one of those special effects where they superimpose someone else's face over the rest of the body.
And Ilana as a lawyer was interesting - a legal protector instead of a mercenary protector. Yin & Yang are together forever again. Only wait - in both ways there's a child involved. What happened there??
Hurley. They literally had him carrying the torch. He didn't need to know Ilana was going to blow up to figure destroying the plane wasn't right. Who cares about the plane when it's what people's decisions are that count. You can win the battle, you can defeat the foe if all you need to do is just say "no, I won't do that".
Sawyer's a jerk in any's book. Notice how he told Jack it was *his* boat. Not Locke lies to make it seem like he can do anything, when in reality it's your own choices that give you what you want or don't. Not Locke lies about protecting Jack because he's already protected. And he is or isn't "with not Locke" as he chooses. Jack will do his best to save the real Locke in sideways. But whether that saves him, or saves him without fixing the paralysis isn't really the point. Jack in sideways will understand that. And most importantly be able to pass that along to his son. When Jacob tells Jack he has what it takes, that's what he means. It's not the out come, but in the trying that matters. I think in the ending Jack will actually offer to help not Locke. But not in the way not Locke wants - Jack will remind him he lives in a world of his own making. He can leave the island the same way anyone else can. But not Locke has to transform himself first. And not Locke will refuse that, he's too set in stone, locked in. ;-)
Is next week really just the repeat? I thought the show after next was supposed to be a summary show. That would stretch it out even further. But a repeat of Richard will be a good seque into the other shoe to drop about Richard. Let's not forget when the smokey massacre happened Richard was where "you wouldn't believe me if I told you"...
Now I am really lost. First the Sideways world, now I am imagining episodes I thought I have seen b4, so I guess I am in the Backways World
Believe Clyde - it's just a pop up!!
The pop ups confirmed Isabella on the ship was really Smokey the Bear. But interestingly the pop ups also say Richard accepting "the job" is the very beginning of "the Others". That means it only goes back to the time of the Black Rock. Smokey kept talking about compasses going around in circles around the "wells" like it was way before that.
Did you see the clips on abc.com for tonight's show?? The titles of each episode are always some kind of double meaning. Well tonight's is the one called "The Candidate" and the clip has Jack in Sidewaysworld saying Locke is a "candidate" yet on the Island saying to not Locke that he's not leaving. (ie he's about to take the third choice, "accept the job")
What dynamite! It's the ultimate turning of the tables on not Locke. Instead of constantly offering everyone else what they want, Smokey is going to be offered freedom!! But he has to let go of who he is! Now there's the ultimate in redemption, but one that will never happen.
GC "Dynamite" is the operative word for last nights Lost!
Is Jack like desmond now living in sideways and on the island? Sayid told Jack of Desmonds whereabouts. Was Sayid also redeemed?
where was Widmore when all the mayhem occurred??? I cannot recall seeing Widmore in Sideways world(?)
..now there are 4 Candidates left and Not lock cannot kill them.
looking forward to next week.
Wow, so long Jin and Sun. Jin should have saved himself. Should have thought of his daughter.
Widmore was in a sideways. Remember the Desmond episode, where they were best buddies and Des was working for him as his right hand man.
Pierre.....
http://abc.go.com/shows/lost/lost-untangled
htown newbie - I think Sayid was probably already redeemed when he didn't shoot Desmond. I think Desmond made Sayid realize even if Locke could make him get to see her again, it wouldn't do any good. But more than that, he made Sayid realize the real one that has the power to see her again is himself, no Locke needed. Jack by the way is also living in the post-crash world. It's just the post-crash one that comes back.
But surely it isn't a coincidence that Widmore is no where to be seen? What about Ben, Miles, and Richard? Are we sure who's bomb that was?
Still any doubts about who's who??
Next up - Crazy Mothers.
The Series Finale is Sunday May 23rd????? This is the first I'm hearing of this!!!! I hope I remember, not used to Lost on a Sunday. Anyone know if it's a two hour episode or what?
Calico: It was scheduled for 2 hours but I read there was too much to squeeze in so it's going to be 2 hrs 20 min. So it's just tomorrow and then the big bonanza.
The 5/18 episode is titled " Why they died" which does as GC says sounds like a recap show
Thanks Clyde. I just read that the Sunday 5/23 east coast TV schedule will be as follows:
7-9pm Lost Retrospective
9-11:30 pm Final Episode
Holy crappers, 4 1/2 hours worth of Lost!!!!!
Last night confirmed "Why They Died" is not the recap, but as Calico notes there recap is going to be right before the finale.
Not only crazy Knotty Hair Mothers, but crazy brothers too...
So many official revelations and confirmations last night. Everything from the evolution of the "game" (although more later viz. "Jacob, some day you'll make up your own game") to where Richard was to the time "Wheel" to how you officially accept the job. (that's quite a bottle of Geritol the woman has)
Namaste, but remember too much burns you to a Smokey crisp.
PS. Pierre Chang ad libs as the Godfather in an Untangled outtake. (www.abc.com/lost) That's the best.
Whoa.....so Adam and Eve are Knotty Mommy Hair and Brother! Who would've thunk it??? There goes the Rose and Bernard theory. BTW, where are Rose and Bernard????? Still back in 1973????
Hmmm, notice how KMH and Brother called Jacob by his name constantly but nobody called Brother by his name?
Next week should be crazy, the preview shows "young" Jacob requesting Ilana's ashes from Hurley.
GC - Not following your Richard reference above. Can you elaborate?
Yikes, cbel where you not watching at the end? Did you have too many Rolling Rocks and pass out? LOL
When Jacob was laying KMH and Brother in their final resting place (cave), they show flashbacks to season one when Jack and Kate found the skeletons whom Locke called "Adam and Eve".
Abel, is sometimes seen as the first martyr;while Cain, the first murderer, is sometimes seen as an ancestor of evil. (wiki)
interesting - we also learned how the smoke monster was born, how the dark side crept inside the other twin (similar to sayid and claire)?
The language she spoke - didnt sound like latin - though the Twins Mother spoke latin...I was trying to determine the time period... Pre 1500's? Looks like the boys stopped aging in their 30's. We also found that mom couldnt kill her son - but killed the others who were getting to close to the light source...
Interesting how the boys don't build outside relationships (like mom).
Yikes, cbel where you not watching at the end? Did you have too many Rolling Rocks and pass out? LOL

I was totally awake for every second of this show which I love but is totally getting my nerves because they always lose me at the end of every episode. I'll watch that last part of it again and look for what you said.
calico - Rose and Bernard were both seen back in the side-ways time, Rose as a career counselor helping the real Locke, and Bernard just last episode assisting Jack in finding out why Locke doesn't want to be cured. (they didn't say it, but if you think the fact that Bernard and Rose know each other is why Bernard probably knew to go to Locke's father, not because he was a patient)
Also, doesn't Chang in the Untangled say "KHM" instead of "KMH"?? ;-)
I figure if it's not-Locke, then it's knot-Mommy. ;-)
As for Jacob as only having the name, remember the mother says "I have no name for him, I didn't expect twins". So from day one MIB/Smokey/etc. never really has any name.
Also remember in the preview, young Jacob isn't asking for Ilana's ashes, it's the ashes Ilana gave Hurley. In other words, he's asking for his own ashes back. I'm figuring before Jack drinks some Jungle Juice (TM), some "light" might be put back into those ashes.
Calico - Richard reference = Jack says to Richard "where were you", and Richard replies "you wouldn't believe me if I told you"....
htown newbie - With brothers like that Cain & Abel is a normal thought, but then the two people aren't truly Adam & Eve. I'm almost thinking more of Romulus and Remus - you know one of those cities, but not the other. I'm also figuring that was an attempt at Latin even though knot-Mom seems to pronounce it horribly. Time frame if so, I'd expect is supposed to be early Egyptian times. Remember the smoke thing was visible next to Egyptian hieroglyphics, and if you noticed closely the game board Smoke-boy found on the beach seemed to have hieroglyphics. I also think it was only Jacob that didn't build outside relationships because mom told him everyone else was evil. Smokey-boy left her and spent 30 years amongst the men.
Chang says....Knotty Mommy Hair (KMH), just rewatched it. I love it, makes me LMAO. I love when he says Rawwles Widdrahhh instead of Charles Widmore.
I remember seeing Rose and Bernard in the sideways, but where are they island-wise? The were last seen living in the cabin in the 70's, I assume at the same time that Sawyer and Julliet were living together.
Yes, Jacobs ashes not Ilana's. Hmmmm, even more interesting.
I always thought that was spelled "Shwa Widwah" ;-)
All the rest of the people in the cabins were killed in "the Purge", no?

This guy was as frustrated as I was after Tuesday.
All caught up with Lost, finally! I really loved reading all the insights by all of you. They definitely help put things in order. I can't believe the show is ending.
Just one thing I kind of need clarification on. When Jacob throws his brother into the light, and the smoke monster comes out, he later finds brother's body on the pile of rocks and lays him with KMH. So who has the smoke monster been all this time? Did only Jacob still see his actual brother after he turns into Smokey? If someone understands what I'm asking, please advise.
Tracy - The way I see it (an obiviously this doesn't make it right) is that Smokey was trapped down there for a long time. Brother got thrown down there with it. He was probably either dead when he went down or died along the way. Smokey than took on his appearance.
Thanks Calico. I just read the Fancast review and it was one of the burning questions listed at the end of the article. I guess I wasn't the only one confused.
I have not seen one episode of Lost, (I always wondered how the overweight guy never lost any weight) and I haven't watched the last two seasons of 24 but I thought this video was funny - http://www.boston.com/ae/video/?bctid=85672039001
Ok so here is the schedule for Lost for this week:
Tonight 5/18 9-10 pm Last new episode before the finale
Sat. 5/22 8-10 pm Season 1 Pilot
Sun. 5/23 7-9 pm Series Retrospective
Sun. 5/23 9-11:30 pm Final Episode
The Swedish Chef rules! Love the latest Slap Down. "Purdey gurdey, okey dokey".
PS. On the origin of Smokey, Tracy's question - I'm not 100% on Calico's explanation. It's definitely one of the possibilities, which to me are generally either Smokey and Brother NoName are different or they are one in the same. If you believe they're different, then Calico's explanation generally follows. But there are two issues I see with it - not Locke saying he was once human and his mother was crazy, and "all I ever wanted for Christmas is my two front freedom". Both of those things are what Brother NoName believed. If Smokey is someone completely different, I could see him saying stuff that Locke said as he appears as Locke. But wanting to leave is the exact opposite. And if Smokey is someone different he might just as well make up anything to say instead of exactly what Brother NoName is always saying.
For a minute let's say Smokey and Brother NoName are one in the same, and Smokey was created at the time he went into the magic Tanning Booth. Knot Mommy said the light was not only life and death but also re-birth. If you think the two are the same, then knot Mommy "fixed" it so they would not have to worry about death (when Brother NoName asked her what death was). If so, and you went in the Tanning Booth, you're already born, you can't die, re-birth is the one one left. With the whole Egyptian Book of the Dead depiction on the wall, and the whole Dogen shock therapy test of good vs. evil, I'm figuring when reborn you get tested. And Smokey came out burnt to a crisp. (way to go, forgetting your karma Coppertone)
But that has its issues too - namely young Brother NoName sees real Mommy, and his left over dead body. I'm OK with both of those potentially. Maybe part of knot Mommy making them not worry about death is the ability to see dead people. And rebirth means one goes while another is created. So the human form leaves a body, and a new non-human creature is born.
So I'm leaning towards Brother NoName as the same thing as Smokey. But I could definitely be convinced otherwise. The writers have thrown worse things out there...
Thoughts on last nights episode?
Is Ben insane now? Seems like he has totally lost it. He's bad, then good, then bad, then good...yikes! It was cool to see crazy Danielle looking like a normal chick in the flash sideways.
So Jack is the new Jacob and Desmond is the key to everything. No real surprise there.
Is Guyliner dead? I thought he couldn't die.
Smokey is pissed at this point.....Island destruction attempt coming.....stay tuned.
My thoughts!
Sideways desmond... looks like he's the X factor on and off the island. (Thrilled to see Ana Lucia once agai.. and hugo asked - desmond: doesnt she have to go? Desmond said "it's not her time yet".
They are off to the concert - where they will meet Daniel Faraday and the rest of the players in the menagerie....
Looking forward to Sunday - I will miss this show and its intricacies as well as idiosyncracies...
I just read this back and it is most definitely rambling thoughts.....
Someone please explain why Desmond and Hurley are gathering the last 2 to be at the concert? Agreeing to do ANYTHING to be freed from the prison transport. Jack will be there, obviously Desmond and Kate will be there. Hurley is in on it. I don't get Sayid, being he passed on, or did he? Did he survive the sub? You know Sawyer will end up at the concert looking for Sayid, Desmond and Kate - escaped prisoners. Who is the mother of Jack's son? She will be there, is it Juliette?
Ya gotta ask... why are they gathering everyone in one place? Was Jacob full of crap? Is Jack in trouble after drinking the magic koolaid? Did Jack fail protecting the light and those remaining on the island are coming to save Jack, the island and all of humanity? Is Not Locke the good guy?! I think he is! Knot Mother did say she thinks she chose the wrong son........ Arrrghhhh!!!!
What a Sunday. :-)
Nobody knows Reggie :)
Tonight is the big night. All or our questions will be answered. Or will they?
Calico - That's no fun, not guessing. That's like watching a game show and not playing along. ;-)
I think it's really just Desmond that's gathering the people, Hurley is there because Desmond says there's one thing he needs Hurley to do for him. (a la Jacob) The concert is the big reunion of all the players in the whole saga. It's an easy writer's device to have a coincidental way of getting the entire crew all together. Everyone could all fall asleep for 30 seconds and wake up as if nothing ever happened... Ooops, wrong show.
Sayid dead? Well if he isn't then neither is Yin & Yang. Even if the bomb didn't kill him outright, he would have drowned on the ship. I think he's dead in the "with the plane crash" reality, but alive in the "without the plane crash" reality. Watched the reshowing of the pilot yesterday with the pop-up version. Some things were confirmed there, but one thing was interesting about how Sayid once said he'd never give up his own life for nothing, never be a suicide bomber. But on the other hand as a military man, he would give up his own life to save others. And in the sub, that's what he did. Remember Smokey wanted him to be "numb" for his job ahead. Yet he spared Desmond, and took the bullet to save others. If he had been numb, the bomb would have exploded in place and they'd all be gone. (except Claire-voyant) Instead the others had a chance because of Sayid.
Soy-her at the concert is pretty easy to see for sure. And having him look for Kate, but find Juliette is quite workable. Seems a bit too easy an explanation, but who knows. If it were up to me, I'd make David's mother be Charlotte. She's away all the time, Jack met her while searching for his father down under, she's already been confirmed to be at the concert by Sawyer. It would also allow for a certain archeological discovery in the desert in Tunisia to be either the way back, or the way either she or David could be on the island.
Why get everyone together at the concert? Why get everyone together on the island? Same answer to the question. The pop-up pilot says all the people were broken and needed the island as much as the island needed them. Everyone comes together in order to be healed.
Jacob full of crap? No, definitely not. Certainly not a perfect guy, but look at who his knot mom was. His biggest thing was he never told any of the candidates anything. He wanted them to find out for themselves, so in a lot of ways instead of being full of crap, he wasn't full of anything.
Jack in trouble? Think of the job he's now got. Anyone on the island is already in trouble, Jungle Juice or not. I don't think he failed at anything yet, he just got the job. Whether he really succeeds or not is yet to happen. Not Locke is certainly the bad guy, he's been all along. They keep trying to make people feel sorry and cast doubt, but if he weren't bad he would leave everyone alone, reconcile himself to belong on the island and enjoy it. Oh no, he goes killing off a few more people, and needs Ben to kill the ones he can't do himself. That's a good guy? (Ben by the way isn't crazy, he's just a survivalist - anything at all to keep himself alive) Knot mommy did really love Brother No Name best, but that's what kept her from seeing Jacob was the good one. But the idea is either way you have to have both, one can be there without the other. Without Smokey causing problems, Jacob wouldn't have anything to do. If Smokey ended up protector, Jacob would have needed to be around for sure in order to keep him from doing anything selfish.
That's also why I'm expecting the ending may not be satisfying in many ways. I don't see there being an end to the cycle of guardian and nemesis. They may succeed on the one hand in destroying Smokey. I can see a final scene of Soy-her all angry sitting on a log by the beach, and Jack comes along with two mugs of Greene's Beans Jet Fuel and asks "Care for a game of backgammon today?" to which he replies "All I want to do is leave the island, doc". Or "You know you can't ever leave" to which Sawyer replies "Don't tell me what not to do".
GC - Love your ending! Let the games begin at 7! How about Locke on the beach with Walt in the pilot episode.... want to play a game on the beach.... one side being light and the other dark. What did he tell Walt? Was that every revealed in detail, besides a miracle?
Reggie - thanks. I'm of two minds of what Locke meant by "do you want to know a secret". One is he just said he couldn't walk before the crash. But otherwise I figure he might have said he knows Walt has special abilities. If it wasn't just about being able to walk, then I figure it had to be something that eventually makes Walt get along with Michael. Michael accepting Walt's abilities I think was a major fear for Walt.
GC - with your permission, can I bring Soy-her home to mom? I think she would likey,... as would I.
TV Superbowl!!!
Reggie
Isn't the Superbowl on TV? LOL, Also this is just another in a long line of anticipated series finals or big events:
M.A.S.H., Who shot JR, Soparanos, Cheers, Seinfeld, to name a few
Reggie - According to all of the Untangled episodes, you can't have all of Soy-her, only his pecs. I have no interest, so they're all yours. Take them home, put them on a shelf, admire them in the mirror they come with, show them off to mom. ;-)
Clyde - who's got the popcorn?
You got it, Clyde! A HUGE tv event.... very much like the superbowl. from 7pm to 11:30pm. Hell yes. BTW, who did shoot JR?
GC- I'm bringing Sawyer home to mom, wether he likes it or not. He seems to be accustom to the "prisoner" thing. Reggie: 1, Sawyer: 0.
Ok fellow "losties". It's finally over. I have to say I was truly disappointed in the ending.
questions answered with questions. at the end where was miles and the pilot? how come miles wasnt part of the awakening team??? because he wasnt real all along? how about widmore? since other deceased people were found in sideways world, where was Michael and walt...
oh well.....
I guess I will stick to reading books on Tuesday nights!
Lame, lame, lame......LAME!
Did anybody watch the alternate endings on that show afterwards? I had to go to bed. Guess I'll have to watch them online.
I remember that movie very well but I don't see the connection to Lost.
BTW, am I the only one who liked the ending?
Calico - it had a very non-traditional ending of the entire cast in church, including people that died, all wishing each other peace. That's specifically what I'm referring to.
I thought it was the most ridiculous ending I have seen in a long time.
I probably won't even be able to bring it up w/DH. He had that really pissed off look in his eye when it ended. Most likely in my best interest not to mention it, otherwise I will have to listen to him rant for about an hour.....LOL
Cbel - you might be totally on your own. What did you like about it?
I loved it! Can't stop thinking about it. Last night I dreamed that I was in the afterworld with Jack, and he loved me. Apparently Kate had not died yet.
cbel - I knew instantly you would like it. It's not only threads, it's a group of weavers all deciding to collaborate on multiple tapestries all at the same time. Multiple tapestries is extremely important because how else would they have the "awakenings". At the same time is part of Christian's explanation to Jack - how else would they learn if they weren't all real, and all eventually remembered?
But I asked about Places in the Heart because one of my first thoughts is how many people are really going to understand this? How well accepted? There are so many that got "Lost" themselves and were hoping to "find" the answers. The physical tying up of ends happened to some extent that was very straight forward, but the big picture ending was spiritual. I give them credit for not taking the easy way out and have a rapid fire 2 hrs of tying loose ends. And end where you have to imply the rest is risky from the viewer's standpoint.
But anyway - Htown newbie, I'll give you my views. Miles and Lapidus as well as all of the rest of the people leaving went back to the "with the plane" reality and went on with their life there. Why Miles didn't have an "awakening" is first part plot device by the writers. Did you see the pre-finale show with the producers? They said they wanted the ending to strongly reflect the relationships, which it seems them expressed in the right couples forming. So Miles as single just wasn't in the cards for that part. Now working backwards you could say to some extent Miles is someone who has had "awakenings" any time he touched something dead.
Christian at the "temple wrap party" tells Jack that both lives, both realities are all real and there for him. Desmond was trying to say the same thing to him just before going into the magic tanning booth. Something about how either way it doesn't really matter because he can choose any "thread" he thinks is working out. So it's *all* very real.
Widmore? It was interesting to see Eloise only for two seconds at the benefit. I would have written in a much bigger part for her. Widmore in the "with island" thread is dead. Widmore in the "without island" thread is still there, probably like Jack delayed in getting to the concert. But in that reality he's very supportive of Desmond, and I suppose is more of a supporting character role instead of a main player.
Michael & Walt in sideways? Just plain never answered. Perhaps their issues were better solved in the "with plane" scenario and never participated in sideways.
To me - most satisfying plot turn = Hurley, the one unshakable torch bearer, as the final protector, even if he had his own doubts. Most unsatisfying plot turn = a simple fight for the end of Smokey, it should have been a quirky twist of the rules to see him go, it should have been difficult. Close runner up for unsatisfying - the genie bottle top stopper. Just pull it out, put it back in and it's all fixed. Have the decency to at least make it hard to turn the light back on. We were so led down the path that the light going out would be so catastrophic, yet it looks like you could have done that at any time. It might have meant two peoples death, but in this kind of game, "I'll just see you in the next life, brother".
I'm glad some of you were happy with the ending.
Hmmm, maybe it's because I don't believe in all of that after-life stuff that I didn't like it. I guess I was looking for answers in more of a scientific way.
Tracy - One of the things Christian said was where they were was out side of time. So whether they died before Jack or after didn't really matter. Also what is "afterworld" if it all happens at the same time?? Perhaps it's the "beforeworld" as they all decide on what their next projects are, and maybe they will include a bunch of the same actors, perhaps not. All you have to do is show up and offer to play a part. ;-)
I hear the ending was not so good (I dont watch) BUT apparently it was as bad as "Sopranos" ending.
Calico - That was part of what I was saying. A spiritual ending isn't for everyone. And I'm not so sure I liked the ending so much as I very much understood it.
Part of the whole show was always the science vs. faith discussion. There's always a different explanation from a different perspective. Think of the "light" as electro-magentic waves then. Think more like Jack was exposed to so much of it, he was "transported" to a different dimension without time. Think of the "awakenings" as caused by the electro-magnetic waves generated from the island as the cork was pulled. The waves caused fusing of bits of dimensions. The different dimension without time would have many "worm holes" to get to any dimension with a time component to it.
I think people who watched it as what it was - a TV show, and not try to over analyze it, enjoyed and liked the ending. Even now GC you are analyzing a show that is over, and what we got last night is IT. I understand what you are saying, but again it was just a TV show made to entertain us. I enjoyed it, and as Jack's Father did last nite, I am moving on and walking out the door.
I'm glad some of you were happy with the ending.
Hmmm, maybe it's because I don't believe in all of that after-life stuff that I didn't like it. I guess I was looking for answers in more of a scientific way.

Calico, I guess I liked it because I DO believe in all that after-life stuff. It's too complicated for me to write about here (I'll leave that to GC). Maybe at the next lunch if anyone still cares.
GC, I meant that in my dream Kate hadn't died yet, because she wasn't in the "otherworld" with me and Jack. I don't know. It was a nice dream, and I was pretty pissed when the alarm went off this morning and dragged me out of it.
I'm not sure how much I believe of the after-life. But I do know that I don't NOT believe. I don't know what happens to us. I enjoyed the ending because I loved the way they all came together. The "awakenings" were very emotional and satisfying for me. Favorites were Sun and Jin, Sawyer and Juliet, and Kate telling Jack how much she missed him.
Also really loved the part where Jack tells Hurley he believes in him.
I really enjoyed finding Rose and Bernard living a lovely little island life with Vincent.
The part that made me scratch my head, when Hurley and Sayid find Boone (it's Boone right?) and Shannon in the alley, and Boone was in on it? There was something earlier in the season in the sideways about why Shannon wasn't on the plane, right? Can't remember.
Anyway, I can't wait until they come out with the LOST DVD complete box set.
Tracy - Yes, Boone knew that Sayid and Shannon were supposed to meet outside the bar. But you can imagine how contrary Shannon is - what would it be like to make sure she's at an exact place and time you know Sayid would be at??
Clyde - Yep. I know you didn't really ask a question, but I still have an answer. ;-) There are those that are analyzers and there are those that just move on immediately. You can be Christian, I'll be Bernard in the gallery and still linger a while longer. ;-)
If Lost were just a serial and more soap opera like, I wouldn't want to analyze or probably even watch. But it's all their references to philosophy, mythology and religion that make me go there. I still see the entertainment side, but I also see a side to discuss more than just the show. Compared to some of the other events like MASH or Who Shot JR - I saw MASH as just entertainment and just move right on, and Who Shot JR I didn't even watch. (but then I was also 16 at the time)
A friend called me this morning to talk to about the ending. She and I both watched the first few seasons, but she never watched the last two. So she missed most of the backward/forward stuff and all of the sideways.
I'd forgotten that earlier in the series we thought everyone died on the plane and were actually in some sort of limbo. So fast forward to the last scene when the pieces of the plane were lying on the beach. It seemed very clear to her that no one came out of that crash alive. So, limbo? purgatory?
cbel - Christian Shepherd is the one who tries to explain things to Jack, he calls the temple they're in a place that they all created and set aside so they could always meet anytime they wanted. That place I think would be fair to call "limbo". Purgatory to me implies punishment, and I don't think that's right. But the island is different from that. And whether it's real or some "limbo" to me is explained by Christian who says it's all real and part of Jack's experiences. But Christian says the "sideways" is also real.
I like your analogy of "tapestries with interwoven threads". So all of the people are threads and as weavers perhaps people have setup various color schemes or "rules and roles" to play by. Perhaps the Island then is just one tapestry, the post-plane crash another tapestry, and the sideways a third tapestry. The Island "tapestry" operates under some different rules than the others. Some weavers have chosen to contribute on some tapestries, and maybe not on another. (for example Michale/Walt was brought up that don't really get seen in the sideways) And even if the weavers are the same, the threads get knitted together differently so see how that affects things - Julliet/Swayer and Jack/Kate vs Kate/Swayer and Jack/Julliet for example. When the tapestry is done, it's time for everyone to come back together and see how it all turned out - to critique and decide on what their next "tapestry" should look like. Maybe some people will join the same group of weavers again for something a little bit different. Maybe others will decide to work somewhere else. (the interchange between Ben and Locke before lock goes in - Ben really hated what he did in the Island version, even if he did right in the sideways, Ben therefore feels he has more to "work on")
If you view it like that, then what is alive or dead depends on which tapestry, ie which reality we're talking about. I think the fact that six of them made it back to the one reality shows there were survivors, and they didn't all die in the crash. In fact, during the second time on the island, there were also a bunch that went back on the plane and survived twice.
I was thinking along the lines of purgatory - so to speak. Not punishment but rather a place to "redeem themselves" for their actions in the real world. Some people were there to help some of the others live up to their potential before moving on or "leaving/letting go". I loved the series. I really enjoyed the first hour and the interviews - and I didn't expect to. I was worried that for me it would take away from the characters if the actors spoke in real time. I cannot wait to rewatch the entire thing again.
In case you didn't realise I thought the ending was great. I want my thoughts and belief system to be challenged by the same thing that others consider to be just entertainment. I loved where the producers said that most shows are "dummied down" for the average audience but LOST proved that the average audience wants more. Love hearing what everyone has to say here also. Keep it coming.
I loved the series. It had me from day one. Halfway I was upset that questions were being answered with questions. My two cents are, the producers never really knew where they were going with this. But the first episodes left it open to go anywhere. So they went everywhere. Every time you think you have it figured out you remember something that contradicts it. Just like the show. Lol. I agree that it challenged religion, theory, and science. That was the main reason I loved it. After awhile I just took it for what it was.
I still think there will be a movie in 2 years or so that will either answer a lot of questions on create more…..
I know the show is over, but I'm curious: Brother turned into Smokey Monster after going into the lighthole and he landed on that branch by the waterfall. Jack also was in the lighthole, and landed on that same branch by the same waterfall. If he hadn't decided to "move on" in the church, would he have become the next smokey monster on the island? Or did that only happen to Brother because he was the evil/dark twin?
How ironic would that have been... In trying to destroy smokey monster, ending up becoming smokey monster.
I guess it really doesn't matter now, just a pointless what if question. I do have to say, though, that this show was very thought-provoking, and I will miss it. Shows to watch just to relax have their purpose, but I will miss Lost. I do want to get a list of the books from the movie and read them. Then maybe someday I'll be up for watching the complete series on DVD and I'll understand even more.
The finale is on with subtitles. (8-10 ABC) It explains all of the "sideways" stuff and links to prior episodes.
