Hackettstown Townwide Yard Sale- Anyone know when it is this year?
I know last year it was in April...it was a really nice weekend I believe it was in the 80s. Now with owning a house we could use a couple things so I was wondering if it will be in April again?
Funny, I was just thinking about this, too - and wondering when it will be... Although I'll be on the selling side!
Yard sales are fun and better when the husband comes home and says dear weres my roll a round tool chest and the rideing tractor , and the wife answers oh those old things you never use them why ?
DH absolutely loves the townwide yard sale. He has gotten some really good tools over the last couple years at awesome prices!
I don't believe it's been announced yet. If you registered the previous year and had your address on the map, you get a letter announcing the date and inviting you to registered again. I register every year, and haven't gotten my letter yet.
Last year it was the 4th weekend, but the year before it was the 2nd weekend.
I got the confirmation letter as well for the 24th/25th. In addition, it says if you want to have your address listed on the map:
1. Write a $10 check out to HCCP
2. Send it to
HCCP
PO Box 695
Hackettstown NJ 07840
3. Include the address on the check
mimi,
You may not be able to take part in the "Hackettstown Only!" yardsale, but many people will pass the Hills of Independence to get to Hackettstown. Have a yardsale anyway and put signs out by Rt 46. I went to quite a few at the Hills last year. I do the same when Blairstown has their town-wide sale. I live in Hardwick, but on a main road, and we get lots of traffic. Good luck!
wow Christine no need to be mean she was just asking a question a simple no mimi to be on the map you must live in Hackettstown would have been just as effective as your !
shoebie, It what way was my response "mean". I answered a question. If I was yelling or wanted to be "mean" I would have used CAPITAL letters.
You obviously dont know me at all as I am NOT a mean person. I thought you would know that by now.
Christine - I think it was the exclaimation point. I took it as a little curt as well. Sorry, girlfriend :)
Curt I understand "mean" no! Calico you didnt exactly post it nasty either. (At least I use periods and exclamations) Just think it is unnecessary to call me mean!
ok maybe it was not mean but it was not nice either! <- if that was not there don't you think you would read that differently?
oh no not the grammar police again
shoebie, My problem with the statement isnt how you read it at all! Actually the problem I have with it is you making a statement about it. If mimi had a problem with my answer she would have come out and said it (maybe not). Maybe I mistakenly put the exclamation point there. Ever thought about that. Could you have sent me A private message about it? No, you decided to state that was "mean" on a public forum to me! This is just another example of how emotions cannot be brought thru writing.
On another note. Grammar police? LOL! sorry you are picking on me for using the exclamation so I had to say the obvious. Sometimes your posts are so hard to read I cant bother. Do I use the proper methods NO but at least I try using periods.
So yeah if that was an apology I accept....if its not then I am moving on anyway!
Christine - you were only stating a fact. Why are people so argumentative on this forum?
copygirl,
because facts aren't always followed by a !
I was actually surprised that no one jumped on me before they jumped on shoebie, because I was also referring to Christine's response when I mentioned the "Hackettstown Only!" yard sale to mimi. I was starting to wonder if there was a secret handshake...
Arguementative? If that's what you call it when someone calls it like they read it. Remember, punctuation is key. And sorry, but I don't buy that the exclamation point was an accident It's about 9 keys and 3 rows away from the period key AND it requires the shift key...
Maybe mean was to harsh of a word, but I definitely would go with snippy.
TO ALL WHO REMARKED ABOUT CHRISTINE - - -
Lori !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Remember, punctuation is key. And sorry, but I don't buy that the exclamation point was an accident It's about 9 keys and 3 rows away from the period key AND it requires the shift key...
OMG - Get a fri#%in life. The 9 keys and 3 rows away - that is someone w/ lots of time on their hands. Most of you on H-town Life knows Christine and all that don't know her well, she is a kind, caring, funny, has a wonderful family and a store owner in Hackettstown whom helps H-town in many ways.
I will not argue w/ you petty people but, it upset me when you jump on Christine as you have and I had to voice my opinion. Christine - you have been on here long enough to know how these few people are and it is not worth your valuable time or worries to even let the stupidity of the situation have you explain yourself. I am no better to be on here voicing my opinion and being upset. But, this was for you and I am happy to give a "good word" where it is well needed!
And this is to the "Grammar Police" - go sit on a big fat letter "i" w/out the dot. It is a waste of time and just ridiculous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are some explanation marks for ya. Oh gee wiz i sed ya ensted of you.
Am I upset? Yes, and I have an "explanation mark" and I'm not afraid to use it! LOL
Take a breath...geez. Your post is pretty long. Talk about having time on your hands. I don't care what you do with your time so please don't monitor mine. Defend people all you want. We read their posts enough to get the idea. Excuses...everyone has excuses for their posts. You READ it wrong...WHATEVER. It's funny how "fan favorites" can say what they want and someone always has their back, whether what they said was nice or not. I know not everyone agrees with me and/or likes me, but that's life. As for meeting others in person, many of us have, but that doesn't mean that because of it we will automatically understand or like everyone else.
I've said my piece. I may have made more enemies, but I'm sure at least one person is nodding their head in agreement, whether they would ever admit it or not...
Realtree girl - states "I will not argue w/ you petty people but, it upset me when you jump on Christine as you have and I had to voice my opinion" Well then....... everyone has an opinion right, and I felt as I read down the thread that Christine was blunt and to the point. Explanation point means as I read it in Webster's College Dictionary "used in writing after an explanation or interjection, expressing strong emotion or astonishment or to indicate a command." Which one was it Christine.
Happy Yard Sale time.....man never though this could poss turn into a mean post sorry
Nosila,
It's not your fault, we have a particular person on this board that seems to know it all and about everything that goes on in Hackettstown. (Alot of time on her hands) So therefore it empowers her to act in this fashion. Don't take it personally ....she does it to everyone. I hope everyone involved has a great time. Happy Selling
BTW, so what if she intentionally put the ! there. It's Hackettstown Only!!
Can I sell my cats there? lmao hahahahhaha I need to make myself laugh tonight! Joking of course!
Someone stated that the 2010 town-wide yard sale is going to be the weekend of April 24th but I can not find it on any Hackettstown calendar or website. Does anyone have the direct link to it? Thanks
stazy - I don't believer there is a link. The sale is done by Hackettstown Committee for Crime Prevention and not the town. I don't believe HCCP has it's own web site. They do send out letters in the mail though, and a bit closer to the event you usually see an announcement in the newspaper.
stazy- It is that weekend. I emailed someone from the town and they confirmed it was that weekend.
Thanks GC and Nosila for responding. I just wanted to make sure I had the right dates. I'm going to try it this year instead of holding one a different weekend. Hopefully it doesn't rain!
No problem....Last year the weather was awesome it was like 80 or something like that at the end of April
What does HCCP stand for? I'd like to ask them some questions about the town wide yardsales but I have no idea how to contact them. Yes, I do realize there is an address in a previous post but I will look rather silly at the Post Office talking to a PO Box. Plus I got yelled at last year by one of our always happy post office employees because I wanted to make sure the book I was trying to ship would fit in the priority mailing box before I purchased it. So anyway...What does HCCP stand for?
Although I still don't know what HCCP stands for, I did find their contact information on the Hackettstown BID website. I tried to copy and paste the info but the forum won't allow it since it is in capital letters and therefore I must be shouting about the yardsales, LOL.
Try this link.....

If anyone is having a garage sale, do you know if you have any candelabra's that you're going to sell. Looking for 2 of them for a craft project, with about 5 spots for candles.
Recommendation: If you have facebook and you're participating in the garage sale, I would highly recommend posting it as a Facebook status update the week leading up to the garage sale weekend as a way to try and get people to our garage sales! Maybe suggest close friends and family members to post it as their facebook status update as well if they don't mind. I know this is something I'm going to do =) Use Facebook as a marketing tool!
The Hackettstown Town Wide Yard Sale is Saturday and Sunday April 24 & 25th. For a $10.00 donation you will get your address printed on the map that will be distributed. There is a link in this websites Calender tab at the top of the page with the address.
The Hackettstown Committee for Crime Prevention was started in 1992 by a group of volunteers to assist the Hackettstown Police in providing a D.A.R.E. program. Since funding has stopped from the Town the HCCP uses the Town Wide Yard Sale as its only fund raiser. The money collected is used for the D.A.R.E. program and to provide Teen Nights during the year. HCCP also provides pool parties fore the kids during the summer months.
Looking at the weather for next weekend it is showing a 60% chance of showers for both the 24th and 25th. Does anyone know if there is a "rain date" for the town wide yard sale? Of course, the weather predictions could change 80x before then lol,
Ang,
Go ahead and have a sale. You won't be on the map, but hopefully someone in your area will be and you can pick up some of the traffic heading to their sale. Put up a few signs. Good Luck!
Hills of Independence Garage Sale is this Saturday and Sunday also.
On 46 on your way down to HTown.....check it out!!
Officially it's 9-5, details are on the town web site as well as other places:
http://www.hackettstown.net/
Thanks GC - I was surprised that the hours weren't listed somewhere on this thread, even in between all of the arguing...LOL
I bet those "early birds" will be scouting around at 7 am though.
Calico - Had one at 6:45 last year heatedly trying to say there was something wrong with *us*. ;-)
PS. The BID site says maps are at "municipal building, Harper’s, Leo’s, Rico Pan, and the Hackettstown BID Office".
While you're out and about visiting all the great yards sales, you might want to take a trip up the hill to the Drakestown United Methodist Church's Rummage & Bake Sale. The sale will be from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, 4/24. The church is located at 6 Church Road. Take Rt 46 to Naughright Road. Turn right onto Naughright, then take the second left onto Church Road.
Hope to see you there!
Firefly - the yard sale at 431 Washington St. Hacekettstown is a charity sale, with all proceeds benefiting Potter's House, Guatemala City - serving the people who live on and around the city dump, scavenging for food and other items to sustain life. Come on by and buy!
The map is available on the BID web site now.

I got lots of stuff...I'm happy but my feet are not.
Not as many sales as last year but still came home with a house full
Didn't do as well this year as previous years. I got a few paperback for 50 cents each and DH got a tile saw for $10.
Scored an old school blow-mold Santa and Snowman for $4!!!!!! Now we have 2 snowmen for either side of the driveway this Christmas. Thank you. Got a nice mirror, cool cracker tin and a book for my little guy from the Potter's House people.
Whew! I'm pooped. Had a great sale. Hackettstown was a mob house today. Got rid of everything cheap. Gave alot away free to kids and seniors. The best part of the whole day was seeing people out. Kids on bikes, famlies walking together, and an empty basement of junk. What a GREAT day!!
Auntiel, I'm pooped too! lol I don't know why! All I did was meet and greet with people all day. :-) I had a great time joking with everyone who stopped by. It was busy!!! I had 15 years worth of stuff I've hoarded in boxes to use "someday" or I will fit into these pants/jeans again "someday" to sell. I sold pretty much everything for a buck. lol I gave people stuff for free too. If they picked it up and looked at it long enough and about to put it down.... I said, just take it..... one less thing for me to bring back into the house. :-) Guess what, everything is gone. Yippee! Hip, Hip, Hooooray!
Great day! Nice to meet everyone..... :-)
Good for you, Reggie! What a great day you had. Doesn't it feel wonderful to unclutter?!
didnt see as much as last year. i had like 2 car loads last year. got a nice surround sound for 60 bucks, new. a couple wicker chairs. some little tools. and an ac unit, gopefully everything works. but not as many as last year, and of course its now raining. I think i went to like every house that had a sale in htown. was mainly looking for tools. and other cool things.
I got a couple of really cool vintage (circa 60's) lamps from REGGIE! - hey GF. They look great!
I wonder why it wasn't as big this year as last? I mean besides the obvious rain today but we got the same impression that Saturday last year it was much bigger.
Anyone know what weekend it was held last year?
I don't think the fact that Saturday was Rutgers Day would have much of an impact but perhaps those who organize the town-wide yard sale will want to organize it on a weekend where there's really nothing going on that would detract people out of Hackettstown.
For anyone who has any leftovers from their sale, remember that there is a Clothing Drive all this week to benefit Hackettstown Elementary PTA. Dropoff at Middle School, Hatchery Hill or Willow Grove, Monday 4/26 thru Friday 4/30. Collecting used, wearable clothing; shoes and accessories; soft household goods (bedding, curtains, towels); hard toys (must fit in 2'x2' box), and stuffed animals. Items must be in tightly-tied plastic bags.
I used to participate every year, didn't do it this year because it's just too much work, LOL. There are usually quite a few sales around town regularly so maybe more people just passed on it and will do them on their own over the summer.
Funny how the town always manages to schedule the clean-up BEFORE the townwide sale. Now everyone has to store their leftovers for another year! Oh well....
It was a fun and beautiful weather day for the town wide yard sale. However, Not enough time to visit all of them. I like to take my time and visit with the people hosting the yard sale ( it seems they are all so friendly). My daughter suggested that they divide the town and have the sale on 2 different weekends. I thought it was a great idea as it brings in a ton of people from other areas that end up supporting local businesses.
Firefly - not a bad idea. Also part of the reason for why everyone might seem so friendly is cause they want you to buy their stuff ;-)
I participate in the townwide yard sale at least every other year and was part of it this year. It was great and met a lot of nice people. I am dissapointed that many people throughout the town posted there own signs and had their own sales piggybacking the townwide sale. Why can't people understand that donating to the DARE program is where the $10.00 donation goes to! It is a good cause having children that have participated in this program for the kids.
concerned,
I did not have a yard sale, but some people, myself included, think the DARE program is a failure and another $10 won't fix it.
Another reason might be that they just did not know about it. Unless I had read about it here I wouldn't know about the DARE portion of it. If I decided to have a yard sale on a nice weekend in April that does not make me a bad person.
I not find ice cream make machine , is too bad. It would have been "schÖn" LOL
Dolly The DARE program is not a failure. Obviously you do not have children that did not go through it. My children totally respect Officer Perkins and the police department. They were also educated about drugs and led to great discussions at home. If everyone participated and donated their$10.00 it would help educate our children more. It does make a difference!
