Smokers: Stop throwing your butts out of your car window while driving! Why is it that smokers think its just fine to throw out their cigarette butts out of their car windows while driving? Or for that matter, anywhere! I'm sick and tired of being behind one of these moron drivers, especially if I'm driving with my windows open. I'm so glad I'm not the only one bothered by this! Littering is littering...even a cigarette butt. Worse is when someone dumps their whole ashtray in a parking lot, etc. Jerks! Maybe because they are rude ignorant slobs. Do you think they would like it if someone took a dump in front of thier house ? Joey Buttafucco Oct 5, 09 1:40 pm Great another smoking thread. I'm not defending anyone because I don't like people who litter either. But, considering cars don't come with ashtrays anymore, what are people SUPPOSED to do with the butts, eat them? Maybe we should ban smoking while driving altogether... Calico, good point. I was behind a pick up truck the other morning and the guy actually threw a can out the window. I was stunned! Ok maybe it should have read: "Please do not throw any trash thats on fire out your window" Steve Oct 5, 09 1:51 pm Very true, Calico. Those who litter need to have a little more respect of others. Diapers are another thing, LOL. So many times, I've seen dirty diapers just laying in a parking lot. BLD, beaten by DH's Saints...He was one happy Redneck yesterday...LOL I'm depending on them to beat the Giants as well in two weeks. Mark Sanchez had his "welcome to the NFL" wake up call yesterday. I'm sure he will be fine going forward I wish he and the Jets luck. I hat ewhen people leave their trash around period! I come into my store every morning to find ciagarrete butts, cups, cans, bags, candy wrappers etc in front of my door. Its ridiculous! Ian: the last car I owned had no ashtray but it did have cupholders in which I put a plastic cup about 1/3 filled with water and used that.they also have those little ashtrays with the beanbag bottom you can put in the car. Calico - I knew the Jet's loss would bring a smile to your face. Just wanted to make you feel better since you felt smokers were being singled out again, (and you can't have a beer until you get home). OMG it's that "warm and fuzzy" HL feeling again invading a perfectly good thread. Haha, yogel... that baby's sweet, lol. Almost makes me wanna start smoking again.... 6 months clean as of Wednesday. Hey saw that butt bucket at the dollar store in hackettstown yesterday. My son picked it up and said what is this?? Its only $1.00 ... Ok well since somebody started a littering thread I just had to share this......I was at Giants Stadium the other night for the Bruce concert and I was just incredulous (good word, eh?) at the amount of garbage that people left behind. There are trash cans EVERYWHERE.......how hard is it to pick up a beer bottle or a pizza container and dump it on your way out of the stadium? It was really disgusting. The guys on the floor were literally shovelling up the bottles, and I counted no less than 10 receptacles for trash within an arm's reach of those bottles. You're kidding, ianimal... yes? ML Laker Oct 5, 09 5:27 pm ML Laker: I thought of it but I didn't want to get into this thread whatsoever, And, btw, she posted once and did give it a rest. It's others who are beating a dead horse. Ianimal way to go! Was wondering about it. When I miss smoking it hits hard but goes right away and it only happens once in a great while these days. cbel - ML Laker Oct 5, 09 7:44 pm My cousin's wife, who promised him she wouldn't smoke anymore, threw a lit butt out the window on her way home from work. Closed the windows, came inside. Fire trucks at their house a short time later. The lit cig landed in her back seat and set the whole thing up!! My cousin then found out his wife wasn't keeping her promise. What sort of bizarro world must one be living in to read my original post and infer that I was saying it was appropriate behavior? ML Laker, I was in a car when I was in college and one of the kids threw out a lit butt and she was pulled over and fined for littering! So saying no one ever does is not correct. It wasnt in this town but I am sure it is done. Not as much as it should of course! Not that I smoke but you can buy an ashtray that fits in the standard cupholders that almost every car has. Smoking is a terrible habit, I hate seeing the mess in front of my work, I have coworkers that are missing teeth due to the gum disease, and people with smokers cough. Maybe this will make people think 1st before littering. I rec'd this from my son's school: some moron not only threw her butt out the window, but also her empty pack... i would have loved to have given her a piece of my mind makin' jam Oct 5, 09 10:57 pm Realtreegirl, great information! Cigarette butts seem to be the least of our problem (other than being thrown out the window). I have switched to bringing my own bags to the grocery store, will have to start bringing them everywhere, 10-20 years is a long time and those can tabs, who knew? I do realize the butts out the window so please don't start flaming about it being the least of our problems, it's all a problem for the earth. Realtreegirl - ML Laker Oct 6, 09 7:41 am That's true Christine. I know MANY people who have been fined for throwing them out of the window. It used to only be $50 but now I think it's like $200. Someone tossed his cigarette in the mulch bed outside the cardiologist's office, set the whole thing on fire. We had to be evacuated while they cleared the smoke from the building (because apparently we aren't really *supposed* to breathe in smoke!). ML Laker Oct 6, 09 8:24 am ML Laker . . . Thanks for the correction. Just going by what the school gave my son on his schoolwork. Thanks for the correction ML, I suppose since it was a school paper they were a bit basic. But I 'm sure Realtreegirl was happy you corrected the information for us. "Actually, it take 12 - 20 years for a cigarette filter to completely biodegrade." The first time I ever had to call 911 was because of a lit cigarette tossed out a window. I lived across the street from a church and a passing car tossed a cig and it landed in their garbage, caught it on fire, which spread to their tree and was working it's way onto the church. I don't care if anyone smokes, but stub it out please! the smokers should have to EAT the cigg. butts in my opinion :) make it a true habit! It depends on the type of filter. Some have little plastic inserts, some have natural fiber others have synthetic fibers. The tobacco itself is is natural and will degrade in a matter of months, which is hwy I have no qualms about tearing apart my cigar butts and leaving them behind. (Sans ring). Somone I know has what looks like a smallpox vaccination scar on his neck. Turns out his mom threw a lit butt out the car window, but it blew back in and landed on him while he was sitting in the car seat in the back seat. Wonder how long it took her to realize what happened... yikes. they dont care for themselves or their families so why would they care about littering jit- ML Laker Oct 6, 09 10:36 pm It is a fire hazard, no doubt about it. Throwing anything out your vehicle window is a bad thing. Gum thrown out the window is disgusting, It was just in your mouth you pig. It's like spitting out the window. What is with all that spitting whenever and wherever you men and boys feel like it? I see alot of it at the schools, guick check, restaurants, shop rite, the hospital, walking down the street. What the hell has been in your mouth that it is so bad you feel the need to spit it out whenever you please. It's a very dirty habbit. Not only dirty but a health issue, your body fluids are now on the ground where people walk. The ground is dirty enough without your spit. How does the public know you don't have some sort of disease, and now is on the bottom of their shoe as they walk into a food store, restaurant or hospital. I know there is an oldtime law on the books about spitting in public. I wish they would bring it back. BusLady Oct 7, 09 10:11 am Mmm, Mmm... nothing like the sound of someone drawing up a big old hocker before they proceed to spit it on the sidewalk. I swear some people are trying to suck it up from their toes...the way the veins pop out of their neck and their nostrils flair...Gag! I think spitting is psychologically symbolic of ejaculating... it's a sign of virility, lol. Sorry, Lori... I can't take credit for the theory. My college psych professor posed that to us in response to the question of why men spit (boys spit because they see men doing it, btw) and it made sense to me. Not sure if it was an original thought of hers, either... it's certainly from the Freudian school, lol. back when i cared, i would sound my horn when someone tossed a butt out the window, just so the little creep that i saw what they did and may be i know who they are, plant a little seed of shame in the tiny brain I remember when I was younger, all of the cars had "cigarette windows" - those little triangle windows that you pushed open for your smoke. I had one on my first car - it always got stuck, LOL. Oh, and they had ashtrays on all the doors. Jim - ML Laker Oct 7, 09 11:18 pm LOL, that's just about as stupid as calling people who eat fast food degenerates because of all the fast food wrappers you see on the side of the road. So, my Taco Bell loving degenerate, again, hypocrisy rears its ugly head... ML, wrong thread on the author thing. As far as anonymous, I'm at almost every Happy Hour, so are many others, feel free to come out and meet us. Also, I always post as Calico696, no name changing for me. Interesting to know I am a degenerate. "I think it's interesting that those of you who are guilty use this anonymous forum to act like mean-spirited high school girls who form cliques in order to ostracize another whom they decided they don't like..." Calico, you're very welcome. Please let me know if there's anything more I can do for you. "If it's bad for you, costs you money, yields more pain than pleasure, and you can't give it up, what do you call it?" Pantless Oct 8, 09 3:19 pm Aaaah, I knew it was to good to be true, Alison's 12-14 hours per day. If your like people at my job you probably spend hours on smoking breaks... No apologies for expressing yourself are needed Jim but feel free to apologise for being a judgemental, pompous ass. **Ever notice that people like Jim etc. always post without the little envelope next to their name? Hmmmm....*** Calico, I don't smoke but I'll join your club, LOL, degenerate or not. I prefer being in your crowd than the holier than thou folks. In the words of Billy Joel, "I'd rather laugh with the sinners than die with the saints". I've noticed there seems to be more and more saints here these days , with no offensive habits or human flaws, perfect people. I wish I could meet them, but sure as hell pray I don't know them. "Aaaah, I knew it was to good to be true, Alison's 12-14 hours per day. If your like people at my job you probably spend hours on smoking breaks..." --Jay So you have to get in your car and leave the "campus"? Hard to believe you keep this to 10 minutes each time (I am talking leaving your desk to returning to your desk). Where I work you just have to leave the exterior doors. We can smoke in our cars in the lot. Many companies are apopting this no smoking rule because it saves them a lot of money in insurance. Would it be acceptable if I were a non-smoker and took an hour for lunch every day? Is that okay with you? I don't. Even if I run over and take 15-20 minutes I am still not taking a full hour. I am sorry that you happen to work with people with such a bad work ethic that it has caused you to be so jaded. I think if that is the case, it's time for you to get a new job. ianimal Not sure why you directed that post to MY attention, frustrated, but I agree with you... You go frustrated!! Bashing other people is what most posters do best on this forum. Nothing but a bunch of elitest. ethnic Oct 9, 09 5:33 pm The people I am talking about are almost exclusively very near to retirement and they don't care, they are in good financial condition. I don't like walking into my building with butts all over and people smoking which I have to be exposed to. At least when people are drunks you have to be within a few feet to smell it; smokers mess up the air for 15 to 20 feet or more. The worst is when I am walking behind these jackasses outside and the wind doesn't blow it away. Hello, the smoking degenerate is here ;-) I am so glad to see this thread. I was just speaking to Shoebie the other nite, and mentioned that I was furious with a young kid in front of me speeding down 206.... he was in a XMT whatever type of car that is.....really loud mufflers and getting ready to open a pack of ciggs.... He tossed out the wrappers that went flying towards my car, and then for about 30 minutes straight down 206 he was flicking his ashes like there was no tomorrow. I was like I am not going to take that..... I then proceeded with giving him the finger and the Loser sign.... he tried to race out of my way, but I think I made him feel pretty dumb when we stopped in traffic for a half hour and were back to back. It annoyed so bad, I would have said something if he stopped closer to my car. Boy, that brought back memories.... I briefly dated the heiress to the Shandor Junkyard fortune many, many moons ago. Very nice girl... hope she's happy, wherever she is. Pepper Cat, you know what eventually happens to people who are as willfully and indiscriminately confrontational as you seem to be? They wind up confronting the WRONG person... Pepper - Ashes aren't a big deal. Lit butts are though. Pepper Cat, He must have been a chain smoker? Never heard of a cig lasting 30 minutes. The fact you followed him and observed his behavior for more than 30 minutes raises the question,........ Advice Mar 11, 10 5:01 pm A girl in my speech class gave a speech on road rage once I was shocked by how many deaths come from it a year! Be careful, if someone is driving dangerously around you slow down and let them pass no reason to add to their behavior. no trucks are allowed in the left lane under any circumstances in new jersey its the law but the truckers do not care one bit!!! Kevin Mar 11, 10 5:15 pm Why do people throw anything out their car windows? Go to Germany, Switzerland, and other Euro countries and it's just astonishing how clean their roadsides are compared to this country. I just don't understand WHY people throw garbage out their car windows. Tommy Mar 11, 10 5:37 pm Agree with all the comments, but how about NO TEXTING OR TALKING ON A PHONE while DRIVING !!! You can just tell when someone is texting. Advice you are dumb.... I sure as heck can follow him all the way down 206 a one way highway...we were going the same way lol consider that buckoooooooooooooooooooooooooo ;) and then we got stuck in traffic back to back so pshawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww to you buddy! He through the plastic and butts out the window...and they went flying towards me all within a 30 minute time frame going down 206 as he was smoking...... so yeah its disgusting! Smoking is disgusting!!! I gave up texting and talking on my cell when I heard about the boy killed on an Oprah show....I signed a waver and since I have a Blackberry it is even more difficult to do so... I ignore or pull over to do what I have to. All right pepper cat good job I hate when people stick there butts out the window the hairy and pimple covered ones are the worst . I will flash my lights at folks who toss butts that sail back directly at my car. My car was'tn cheap and I dont appreciate people throwing buring garbage at it. makes me want to pick up the burning cig and throw it in there lap and say here you dropped this Ianimal So did I, CA, but we may be speaking of different generations. Did you go to Belvidere H.S.? By the time I was in high school in the late 80s/early 90s, they lived in Lopatcong and went to P'burg H.S. So, maybe Judy is her aunt? There is no reasoning with these people. I smoked a ton but I never tossed butts out the window. Actually, Dolly, I resepctfully disagree. It has become so commonplace to simply toss a lit cigarette out a car window, those who would otherwise abhor littering, have lost sight that what they are doing is worse. YKW (ML) Mar 13, 10 8:58 am cc, YKW (ML) Mar 13, 10 9:02 am Well now that all the snow has melted in front of my store on Main St, there is evidence of all the cigarette butts. Its ALOT!. Its gross and I HATE cleaning them up. Leave a ReplyTo comment on this topic, fill out the form below.
