What famous people/celebrities have you met????

So, I was going over my meager list with my husband...it includes famous people/celebrities that you have seen up close, spoken with, or interacted with....not a concert or play....

1-Jim Bruer (but I think ALOT of people from this area have met him)
2-Donald Sutherland
3-Regis Philbin

Wayne Dyer - Met and spoke to him twice.

Nobel Prize winner for physics, Horst Stormer - knew him well at Bell Labs.

Back In the day...Kid from kid and play

Alan Alda
Chuck Schumer
Joba Chamberlain-at a game...got his autograph and pics

I think every day people are more interesting than celebs. Speaking of celebs did anyone else hear that Chastity Bono has begun the procedure to become a man? I think she is going to be called Charles. As left wing as Cher is I'll bet she's having a fit.

Mackenzie Phillips, Ernie Banks. Saw Jack Lemmon buying socks in Saks Fifth Ave. in NYC......I think that's it.

Chuck "U" Schumer Oh My God!!! Can't even Look at Him ( Shelly take him off your List)

I have breakfast with John Amos on a regular basis ( Oldwick General Store)

I've met Soupy Sales ( Getting out of a Car ...I had a Client on 250 Park Ave, and he was walking down the street and I Announced my self) Stupid me..He is Cool though

I met JFK when I lived in London ..at the US Embassy..( Wow,, that was in 1960 )

Donald Sutherland .. Yes me too

My Old Girl friend took care of Jackie O's Horses ... ( Far Hills) Jackie was a wonderful person

Joe Piscapo..( My son graduated with Little Joey here in Tewksbury)

Ok That's enough..

Regis Philbin
Frank Gifford
Gov. Jim Florio
Al Roker

Celeste Holm

I'm with you two...

When I was a kid I went to a camp here in town and "Re-run" from the old TV show "What's Happening" was a counselor (I think real name is Fred Berry), but I don't even think anyone will remember him. So I'll number my list at zero...

olderman.....depends on the date and the celebrity. I have been fortunate (or maybe unfortunate...LOL) to personally know some connected people ;-0

Is Jim Bruer the guy from SNL? I met him a few times at a park in Chester. I was there with the kids I care for and he had 2 of his children. He was a really nice guy and seemed to have a fun personality. The kids really liked him to! Anyway I remember talking with him on a few different occassions and (not knowing who he was) I had asked what he did for a living and I believe all he said was he worked at night and he liked it because he could spend time with his kids during the day. Then a few months later I saw him on the comedy channel and realized it was the same person!!

You know Capone??

Not many for me. I was standing in line at the local deli in Montauk and Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley were in line in front of me. This was before they were married/divorced. I was a teenager and Billy Joel was one of my favorites at the time, but I was afraid of coming off like a fan and said nothing.

Other than that, I saw a few people in the restaurant when I used to stay at the Marriott in Stamford, for work:
Patrick Swayze
Nancy Sinatra
Joe Lieberman

I know concerts should not count however with my 25 year tenure at Waterloo I met almost every performer who played there. At times it was just a hello and other times we spent a great deal of time interacting during pre and post concert time. I recall having a nice dinner with Elvis Costello on his birthday. Some were great to talk with like George Carlin or Arlo and especially Stevie Ray Vaughn. And some were, as one can imagine, real a-holes! I will say Regis and Kathy Lee top that list for a good reason. It was not just rock performers it was country, bluegrass, jazz, classical, comedy etc. This also included people like Yo Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman and others. I recall we had held a few boxing nights as fundraisers as well. We had some notables come in for a cocktail event prior to the bouts. George Forman was wonderful at one of the events while Mike Tyson was as one would imagine. I think the Governors wife, Lucinda Florio learned a few new words that night. There have been lots of interesting people both at public and private events at Waterloo -good old times.
I was at a small holiday party in NY with Geoffry Holder. He is such a talent and dumb me just kept thinking I wanted him to do the old 7-UP line! I did have dinner with Kitty Carisle at the Carlisle Hotel. That was fun. I briefly met Joan Rivers at a cocktail party in NYC too. Scary up close. Walter Cronkite was a brief two minute hello but memorable. Tony Randall spent the day and was very fun. Another high point was while in the Bahamas on business at this private club I walked out with our host to meet his neighbor Sean Connery-very cool. I have been with all the Governors in NJ since Byrne. I know when I was 5-6 on one of the seemingly 2000 vacations to Washington DC my family went on, we met Senator Ted Kennedy. There are more but I gotta go!
I think Chubby or someone stated in a prior post they are just humans and we should consider ourselves and families the real celebrities. I know I do.

Met and spoke to Mickey Mantle at his restaurant in NYC, he signed a copy of his book for me.

Soccrgrl, when DH worked at his parents camera store he used to give Zach Braff cookies whenever he and his father went into the store. Zach's father still goes in there and once after Zach got famous he went in too. Mike didn't work there anymore though.

Greg,

Just curious...what years did you work at Waterloo? My father also worked there, but as a vocational-type teacher for a youth/delinquent program. You just reminded me, by mentioning Waterloo, that I actually have met a few famous people. Due to my father's employment we went to various concerts over the years and I now remember that I met Roy Orbison and Arlo Guthrie. A few others as well but my memory is failing me, LOL.

Umm lol ok so Nas, Busta Rhymez and Missy Elliot. (she actually is at the Stop and Shop in Butler a lot bc she lives in West Milford) That was in my hang out days like ten years ago (they are rappers/singers)

Halle Berry (she is so tiny!) and Russell Simmons. (also tiny, lol)

Oooo, I forgot. James Taylor.....and I saw Meryl Streep in the pharmacy in Mendham. And I met some old time comedian, CANNOT remember his name...when I worked in Epstein's in Morristown. He came in to buy gifts for all of the staff at the hotel where he was staying. His name was Jack something, maybe??

ashley force...o yea

That's pretty cool jrsemom. Hal is a nice guy.
When I was in 8th grade I did an ar piece as a part of a special art program with the Guggenheim Museum and we had our artwork in an exhibit called A Year With Children and I met Paloma Picasso.

Lori- I started at Waterloo 29 years ago this month in June of 1980. I am still wrapping up the process of dissolving the foundation today. I was very involved and worked closely with all the folks from both the New Jersey Youth Corps program as well as the residential group program from Oxford we had there all those years. What is your dads name? I am certain we know each other. Was he one of the tradesmen or in the culinary arts field?

Hey Happy- doesn't Ashley Force drive with a flashing blue light in her window? LOL

Lori...

I remember Rerun. I loved What's Happening. His real name was indeed Fred Berry. He was a very nice guy. He came and spoke to my middle school in Albuquerque, NM. He told us stories about his addictions and what it was like filming the show. Really a good guy.

Dame Judi Dench
Al Roker
"Weird Al" Yankovic (he is actually the nicest guy, meeting him was a definite highlight of my childhood)

My mom also went to grade school with Governor Florio's wife and I met her once when I was a kid, lol.

P.S.
Lori, Re-Run counts. :)

Greg,

My dad was Paul R., tradesman. 6'' 3" and about 145 lbs. He probably stood out, looking like a beanpole! I remember going to my 1st concert around 1987 so that would definitely put him there in the same time period as you. I believe he went to work at another program not too long after that. He retired from one in Voorhees State park in Highbridge in 2002. I was sad to see that Waterloo isn't what it used to be but with time comes change, right?

I also meet Jon and kate Gosselin at a function at Morristown Memorial for the new NICU but they weren't big celebs then like they are now

Lori- I was going to guess Paul. What a very kind gentle man. He had the students do all sorts of great work. I learned how to lay a floor from him. The good old days.....

I have met and talked to:

Marc Summers, host of Double Dare, asked me if I had a "boyfriend...I mean girlfriend" when I was in the audience of that show when I was 11 years old. I was mortified.

others:

William F. Buckley, Jr., Right Wing Activist
Tom Hayden, Left Wing Activist
Ann Rule, Author
Mickey Rourke, Actor
Dan Glickman, when he was Secretary of Agriculture (now he is head ofthe Motion Picture Association of America)

only one of the above people was not extremely nice to me, can you guess which one?

I have also had very brief encounters with:

Mike Ness, singer of Social Distortion
David Johansen, singer of New York Dolls, and actor (just the other day)
Henry Rollins, singer of Black Flag, and actor

Jon Corzine, Governor of New Jersey
several Congressmen and Women
a few Senators

and

Gerry Laybourne, the Chief Executive Officer of Nickelodeon from 1984 to 2000 spoke at my father's funeral. She's not exactly famous, but she's in that world and she's awesome.

oh yeah, Rupert Gee of the Hello Deli next to David Letterman's studio gave me directions to the nearest bathroom last December. (he recommended the starbucks about two blocks north). I was lost and a bit scared, and he was very nice.

I saw the Naked Cowboy in Hackettstown on a Sunday Morning about two years ago...some firemen were having a cookout behind in the municipal parking lot on high street behind the mechanic's garage there...i'm forgetting the name of the garage now...it'll come to me later I'm sure

When I was 18 years old, I attended "Guitar Camp" in Connecticut. A place called the National Guitar Summer Workshop. I complained to the head of the camp that my teacher was teaching the people in the less advanced class the exact same thing he was teaching us. Adrian Belew scolded me, saying something like, "You're learning something, aren't you?" I looked at him and then I ignored him. I think he was offended. Later I found out that he was the guitar player for King Crimson and a major player in the Progressive Rock movement.

I'm not really that into Progressive Rock. Some things are good, but I'm still just not a fan of Adrian Belew. More power to him, just not my thing.

I was once married to The Devil ...

i also met David Jo...way back when...at the Showplace in Dover...and in another bar he played... right after the New York Dolls broke up...David Jo...is the best...no attitude..a regular...guy...

Greg... I hope the floor was an attractive knotty pine (-;

Bobby Holik
Alec Baldwin - he's kinda short
Mike Krushelniski
Robert Redford - he was a jerk
Kirk Mueller
Kenny Daneyko
Dougie Sulliman
Chico Resch
Slava Fetisov
Dave Maley
Sean Burke - another jerk
Robert Vaughn
Aaron Broten
Patrick Verbeek
Dave Dean, Jr.

(that's all I can think of right n0w)

Back in the day, I hung out with just about everyone in the NYHC scene, but Vinnie Stigma (Agnostic Front/Madball) and Jimmy Gestapo (Murphy's Law) were about the two coolest guys I've ever met and they played and partied at my frat house quite a few times.

I also was lucky enough to have a buddy whose sister was in the record business and was the company's liaison to Godsmack... we hung out backstage partying with them at Woodstock '99. I met Mike Ness that night as well. She also got us backstage at a K-Rock DFP show where I got to meet Wayne Chrebet from the Jets and had Jackie Martling tell me that I needed to "simmer down", LOL.

I met

Sebastian Bach (twice)
Joe Piscopo
Linda Blair
Margot Kidder
The 2 Weird NJ Magazine/book guys (cant think of their names atm)
Jon Amos

I get star struck and dont say much when I meet them...lol.

Joe Piscopo, Linda Blair and Margot Kidder? You weren't locked up in the loony bin, were you aaeadena? (Consider me very sorry if you were... it's just a *strange* combination of people, lol).

Piscopo's a bit of a nut... but he played Danny Vermin, so he can't be all bad (-;

"Dames are put on this earth to weaken us, drain our energy, laugh at us when they see us naked."

"I enjoy collecting protection money, putting whores to work, loan-sharking. I enjoy planting bombs in people's cars. These are a few of my favorite things."

"I've been fulfilling a lot of people's prophecies about me; I've become a real scumbag."

"It's an .88 Magnum; it shoots through schools."

Possibly the most underrated comedy of all time...

Ive only met a simi-famous UFC fighter named Forrest Griffin in Las Vegas last November...My dad, on the other hand, used to eat pizza and watch Yankees games with Dee Sinder (of Twisted Sister) almost on a monthly basis when my dad lived in Weehaken in the mid 70's.

After he moved to H-town he used to talk about this candle factory on top of the mountain by where the A&P off of Naughright Rd is now I think(?) All the guys used to hang there. Rickey Medlocke of Blackfoot and later the guitarist for Lynard Skynyrd used to play and hang up there alot I was told. He was a "drinkin" (amounst other things im sure) buddy!

Any body remember this candle factory? Its just a legend in our household...lol.

Also met Ron Duguay from the Rangers back when they did the Sassoon ads....He was shocked by my purple hued hair. He was amused that I had his bubble gum card though.

The singer to Agnostic Front's little brother was filling in for him once at Obsessions, and he stepped on me. He left bruises on my inner thighs.

Oh, and Dave Ramsey sent me this letter:

January 9, 2009

Eric B. Anderson
Hackettstown, NJ 07840

Dear Eric:

Thank you for sending me the two wallet cards.

The words of President Roosevelt have never rung more true. Fear in the media fueled the creation of the recession we are now in, to the point that it has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. If people will quit listening to the talking heads and start relying on history and common sense, this country will weather this storm nicely.

Keep on being an informed and aware consumer.

Sincerely,

Dave Ramsey

BAF...Jessica Simpson was a little chubby when I met her (still amazingly attractive)...She is much shorter in person too. It was before she got married to Nick. One of my guys actually got to sing "you've lost that lovin feeling" to her...It was fitting because Top Gun was filmed at Miramar.

Corporations were always renting out hangers for huge parties (they probably get to write off the party because the money goes to our Marine Corps Ball fund). Anyway; Oracle had Matchbox 20 do a concert, and Darden Restaurants (Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Etc.) had Sugar Ray there once. They always have a handful of Marines there to go over static displays of aircraft and weapons for the shareholders and high rollers to mess around with. I'm sure there were more infuluential people there, I just wouldn't have know who they were at the time.

Thats cool that you met Al Gray. I think he went to Lafayette College in Easton, I know one Commandant did. I was always on security dtail when the Commandant came, so I never met him, just listened to a few motivating speeches.

An early post helped me remember meeting John Force, before he was a superstar in drag racing. He was staying at the same hotel in Lake George, NY we were staying at in the mid 80's. At any rate, he backed his car out of the hauler for all of the hotel guests to see and squeeze in to. What was interesting was that it was his actual car, not a show car. I don't think fame has gone to his head a bit, as he seems just as friendly now as when I met him.

As a journalist with press credentials, I've met quite a few, but since I had access I won't even get into those ... I think this thread is all about regular folks meeting someone famous when they least expected it. When I was a teenager seeking autographs I found Brooks Robinson to be very accommodating and friendly to everyone ... very rare for an all-star player. I unexpectedly ran into Soupy Sales once at a hotel lobby in Morristown. When I told him I watched him on TV as a little kid, he looked up at me (I'm 6-5 and 300 pounds) and asked, "When were YOU ever little?" However, my best celebrity story is about Curt Blefary, who batted over .400 against the Yankees (remembered as one of the all-time Yankee killers) but only batted about .200 against everybody else. He was selling cars at Town and Country Chevrolet in Toms River and I purchased a 1969 Chevelle Malibu from him. We became fast friends because I knew a lot about the Orioles' teams he played on and I invited him to join the softball team I was playing with at the time. He showed up and I simply introduced him to everyone as Curt from Town and Country. Of course, he hit the ball out of sight his first time up and an inning later, when he threw a runner out with an air strike from the outfield, an opponent yelled out, "who is that (expletive deleted) guy?" We let the secret out and he signed autographs the rest of the night. It was 35 years ago but I still remember the looks on everybody's faces when he made that throw!

Just met Alfredo and Joba yesterday at the Yankee game. Loveee Joba!

Meredith? The question is FAMOUS LMAO (Met fan here)

Who is Alfredo?

Haha heyyyy Clyde!! Joba Chamberlain and Alfredo Aceves...he's a pitcher.

I repeat the question was: What famous people/celebrities have you met????

When my daughter was about2 richard petty was at the laneco store in wind gap pa.had his car there, giving out all kind of promotional stuff.any way I had was carrying her and when we got up to meet him she reached her arms out,he picked her up and kissed her on the head.by the way she's 21 now and has had 5 speedin tickets.hmmmm I wonder.

Ricky Lake (not very nice)
Julianne Moore ( has soo many freckles)
Kirsten Dunst (looks like a 12 yr old, not very attractive, horrible teeth)
Alec Baldwin

When I was seventeen (1976) I met John Lennon in Philadelphia at the studios of the local ABC affiliate, WFIL (now WPVI) on City Line Ave.

I don't remember why I was there and I don't know why he was there but he did the the newscast's weather forecast that day! I meet a real hero that day (still is).

Couldn't possibly have been nicer to a star struck teenager.

A Beatle for crissakes!

Im so surprised to hear that Ricki Lake wasnt very nice. Go Ricki Go Ricki Go Ricki oops sorry had a little flashback there. As for John Lennon being a hero I don't think so. I found him to be rather creepy and don't even get me started on Yolko Ono. Ive met Archie, Meathead, Edith and Lionel Jefferson. Very friendly bunch of people. Oh and little George Jefferson and Weezie . Weezie was a ton of fun but that little runt got on my nerves.

I meet Gianni Russo on Saturday at a small backyard party in Keyport...he played Carlo...Sonnys brother in law in The Godfather.

I guess Mr Russo isnt doing very well for himself if he's going to bbq's in Keyport. Wasnt he the one that beat on Talia Shire the sister and then got killed by Sonny?

Jim Bruer- We were both staying at Great Wolf Lodge in Scotrun, PA. I was standing in the hall watching my daughter as she went to the soda machine. The door I was standing smack dab in front of opened and there was Jim Bruer. We exchanged hellos, but it took me a few minutes to realize why he looked familiar. I wonder if he thought I was some sort of middle aged comedy groupie hanging outside his door.

Dianne Wiest- browsing in the flower district in NYC- exchanged hello's, seemed very nice and quiet

Kerry Collins and Joe Jerevicious (when played for NYG- I am a HUGE Giants Fan)- won tickets to exclusive party at a club in NY from WPLJ. Was dancing and turned around and I saw them at a table right next to the dance floor. Hubby took a picture of us, They were extremely nice when I asked for one.

Tom Noddy (aka The Bubble Guy)- Relative

Sally Jesse Raphael used to frequent a restaurant in Hackettstown when her TV show was very popular...i was at dinner with friends and looked over and saw her having dinner with her daughter.. at the next table...she was wearing her trademark red glasses...we did not disturb her...

I have met and talked with in the last few years, the last remaining members of Easy Company. We lost another one a few days ago, Darrell "Shifty" Powers and you will never here of his death in the MSM. Very sad that people are so enthralled with celebrity and forget the true hero's that saved the world from Nazism.

Sally, your Godfather knowledge is less than stellar, lol...

Carlo set Santino (Sonny) up to be killed and Michael had Carlo killed afterwards (which didn't go over all that well with his sister Connie), after assuring him that he *wouldn't* be killed; that his punishment for betraying Santino would be banishment from the family business.

I believe it was Clemenza in the Cadillac with the piano wire, if you're playing the home game (-;

Re: What famous people/celebrities have you met????Jack...my late father and several of my senior family members fought all the way through WW2 in many of the toughest battles...i give veterans all due respect...and i am not enthralled by celebrities...and as far as Easy Company that was one outfit out of many that fought in WW2...in both the ETO...and Pacific Theatres...one more thing...you should look up one of Hackettstowns famous war heroes...John D.Bulkeley ...The Sea Wolf...he kept in touch with his friends from town and visited often

Sally...Gianni now is a lounge singer and has his own line of wines & pasta sauces....he is 57 and had a early 20's blonde girlfriend...I guess he's doing pretty good...at the same party there were 3 members of The Elegants from the 50's....a little before my time..

Muhammad Ali in 1977. It was in Wilkes-Barre Pa. I was a college student and I heard that he was going to be at the local WABC station to do an interview. He was up in Deer Lake Pa (in the Poconos) while training for the Ernie Shavers fight. He came over and shook our hands, talked to us for about 10 minutes and signed authographs. He couldn't have been nicer. At the time, I really didn't like him. I rooted for Joe Frazier in their infamous 3 fights. But I liked him after that. Still have his autograph framed on the wall!

I went to school with Larry Holmes,7'th,8'th grade days.

I met Larry Holms a couple of times through my husband. He and his father used to cover him for newspapers in the Easton and Allentown areas. He's been very generous with his time with them.

HOLY crow!!! I just had a mutual conversation with Issac from The Fray, he's my Bf's cousin. SMALL WORLD!!! By the way, he, and The Fray are FABULOUS!!!

When I lived in NYC -

Dustin Hoffman, Mick Jagger (in a restaurant), David Bowie, Emeril (no big whup), Rod Stewart, Frank Sinatra, Joan Collins, Sylvester Stallone, Billy Crystal, Lionel Richie (sp?), Barbara Walters, and my favorite ....... Michael E. Knight from All My Children (MANY times). Have met many more because I worked for a very well known doctor.

Linda- Why was Michael E Knight your favorite. I'm asking because he always has seemed to me to have a great sense of humor and a good guy. Considering I have only seen him on screen this could be completely inaccurate.
