Mr. C's???Does anyone know what happened to Mr. C's? We went over the weekend and it's closed! Apparently there's a BBQ place coming? Gimli Apr 22, 09 11:51 am Oh No...that is horrible news. The food was terrific and the owners very sweet people and the place was clean and neat. My son played hockey with the grandkids. I am sorry to hear about this. hockeymom Apr 22, 09 12:55 pm Mr C's was a restaurant up in Netcong. Hamburgers, hot dogs, shakes. Excellent. Gimli Apr 22, 09 12:56 pm Thanks Gimli, I am very rarely in Netcong so I haven't had the pleasure. Sorry that they are closing. You think it was due to the economy or were they old enough that they could have decided to retire? I cannot believe it!!! They were sooooooo yummy, clean a NICE! ML Laker Apr 22, 09 3:13 pm OH NO! There have been so many good comments about the place, and when we drove past the other day I said to my husband "I want to go there soon, supposed to have great onion rings" LVMomofBoys Apr 22, 09 3:14 pm I don't know what it's due to. I don't really think it's a retirement thing, but it certainly could be an economy thing. They did run an Italian restaurant in Newton for something like 20 years. Gimli Apr 22, 09 3:46 pm Was it on Sunday???? They are closed on Sunday's but opened the rest of the week...I was just there...Can't survive without the onion rings. jettailgaiter Apr 22, 09 4:12 pm Mr C's is not closed was there on Saturday for onion rings and Texas weiners. jettailgaiter Apr 23, 09 6:30 pm I drove by this am on the way to work and saw the sign also saying that a bbq place is coming soon???? Well it was the building included in the sale and asking price was almost $300,000 I believe. Mr. C's is now Smokey's BBQ (and Hot Dogs). Same emblam as the one they closed in Byram so i'm assuming it's the same owner? It looks like they still have the same menu from Mr. C's plus now BBQ type stuff. Bryan you are correct. Same guy as the one that closed in Byram(the old Falconer's Inn on Lake Lackawanna). IceWater May 4, 09 10:12 am This could be good. Smokey does a great BBQ. He used to compete at the national level for a bit. I can't wait to get over there. Bring Cozys back. MR. C's was the owner of the Circle Grill also. They just tried to rip off the Cozy menu and theme. I wish Smokey's well but don't see it lasting unfortunately. Once the trade zone went in it killed all the local restaurants. They've all closed or keep turning over owners. Cozylover Jun 17, 09 12:05 pm Smokey's is there and the BBQ is fantastic! He kept the burgers, hot dogs (which are better than before) and some of the side dishes, but is focused now on BBQ chicken, ribs, pulled pork, etc. The place got a nice makeover outside and is still clean and cozy inside. I'm quickly becoming addicted to the BBQ at this place! Don't live in the past, give these small restaurant owners the business they deserve. SmokeysFan Jun 17, 09 2:22 pm How did the trade zone kill the local restaurants ? I would think it would have helped all the restaurants....am I missing something ? PREDATOR Jun 17, 09 2:43 pm Predator, I think Cozylover is referring to the ITC Crossing retail area and all the chain restaurants, fast-food joints and strip mall-type buffet and pizza places that are there rather than the actual Trade Center on the westbound side of 46. We did also try out the new Smokey's and it was very good. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was excellent, very good fries and excellent mac n' cheese. Nice people too. Have to say I liked the onion rings and the fries better before, but the new additions to the menu give you alot more variety. Kids love the mac n' cheese. Nice in clean inside, but that's nothing new; Always been clean and well taken care of. jettailgaiter Jun 18, 09 3:43 pm The onion rings aren't the same as they were under Mr. C's????? OH NO! Say it isn't so!!!! That's what made it worth the trip all the way from Mountain Lakes!! ML Laker Jun 18, 09 3:50 pm They are closed Sundays. I am not sure if they are open or not. I am here now at 10:20AM with no one in sight. The hours on the door state 10:30AM open. I was there on Monday or Tuesday and the place was locked up and dark. Thought maybe vacation or something but there was no sign. I also found it odd that after opening a new restaurant that is just getting off its feet that you would go on vacation and close for a week. Guess we'll have to see what next week brings. IceWater Jul 2, 09 10:56 am Stopped by today...sign in window says closed for vacation.... will reopen Aug. 1st...odd they have a Grand Opening then go on vacation for over a month ? I am told that a serious illness by a family member has caused them to close temporarily. Lets hope its just vacation.. jettailgaiter Jul 13, 09 7:15 am This topic has not been commented on in more than 6 months.
