Original, pencil-signed color etching by noted French artist Le?on Danchin of Fighting Cock. During his lifetime the Phyllis Lucas Gallery in New York established a relationship with Danchin as one of one most important outlets for his work in the United States that continued from the late 1920s through the 1930s. Following Danchin's death in 1939 Danchin's son continued to handle his father's work and his relationship with the Phyllis Lucas Gallery. Danchin was born in Lille in 1887, studied sculpture at L'Ecole des Beaux Art in Paris and was accepted by the Salon des Artists from the age of sixteen. Without abandoning his sculpture, he devoted himself to drawing, painting, watercolors and etching.
