Hackettstown Lantern Walks Scheduled

Just to give everyone a heads up on the upcoming annual walking tours coming on the weekend of October 15 (Friday) and October 16 (Saturday) 2010. These tours are not only historical, but also delve into the paranormal side of our small town. What better way to spend an evening with friends (and maybe spooks) as you walk the back streets of Hackettstown with destinations like Charlie Browns, Centenary College, the town museum (soon to be filmed for an episode of "Ghosthunters"), and other local haunts. And it helps support the burial ground on Main Street and the Hackettstown Museum! For more info, please check out www.hackettstownhistory.com
This photo was just taken here in town at about 3pm Friday Sept 3rd (13 minutes ago). But it is not the site of the investigation. I am sure the results will be revealed during the tours in October.
Is the tour going to be the same or a different route than last year. My husband and I went last year and enjoyed it very much!
How do I sign up? Is there a fee? Where do you meet? I'm interested, John. Let us know when you get further details. Thanks!
Babs - The tour is done every year, yes there is a fee. If I remember correctly from last year, $10. But that had a coupon for Charlie Brown's that made up for half of it. The meeting place is in front of the community center, or the Pres graveyard, you'll see plenty of people there. You can usually buy tickets on the spot, or ahead of time at the Hist Soc.
Pic looks a little like Michael Jackson lol........ so excited for TAPS again..... ordering my cable package this week....
I will be interested in the Latern walks. I always miss TAPS when they are in town............. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :( =)
LOL Pepper Cat. That's what I thought!! Kinda doubt that Michael Jackson's ghost would pic H'town for his final haunting place though!

To me, this was one of the funniest moments of the night. Picture this.....pitch black room......a closet door?.....or maybe the door that leads to the attic? Lets open the door and see what's inside. BOO!!!!!

It was decided today that the Church Street museum will be filmed for a future Ghosthunters episode.

Unfortunately the Lantern Tour has been cancelled this year! I'm sad about this! I actually made plans with friends to go, only to find out there were not enough volunteers this year to make it happen. :(
It really was a great event!
I'm bummed, I was looking forward to taking the tour this year after such great reviews last year. Maybe they'll do it next year.
Awww, that stinks, was looking forward to go this year, I went 2 years ago, but wasn't able to attend last year, so I was a def this year. :(
Ladybug, where did you hear they cancelled the tours? They still have information on their website advertising the tours.
I called the Hackettstown Historical Society. The kind gentleman who took the call told me they didnt have enough volunteers.
I told him that they need to update their website. He said, "yeah well you know.....theyve gotta update it...."
Great question Tracy!!! Last year it seemed that there were plenty of volunteers. Many taking money.....setting you up with a tour guide and then the tour guides. Still makes me so sad.....
It REALLY was a great event!

Last year I was one of the only few guides that braved the rain. But I would be willing to do a tour on Halloween weekend and donate the full proceeds to the museum. I'm going to contact them this weekend to set things up. I think a 2 hour walk (1 on Friday and 1 on Saturday) for maybe a $10 donation would be good. But the walk would not be suitable for very young children and would be fast paced. Tickets would be sold in advance only. Watch for the announcement of this tour after I contact the Historical Society.
I would love to go on this, my 9 year old went on a walking ghost tour in Gettysburg and loved it, would he be too young to go if you are able to pull this off?
Hi John C!!! I know that you were not my guide last year. We actually had a woman. But that would be great if you put it together. Any chance you could still do it on their "scheduled" date? You would make it a "ghost" tour right? (what am I talking about....you? ghosts? history?.....Yep...this is right up your alley!!!! ) Go for it!~
And also, I see your pic....we did it at night! Made it much "spookier"...if you know what I mean.....was this pic before it started?
This is breaking news to my family. Our home is on the tour every year and we prepared the front yard and my wife has been turning on all the lights not even knowing till right now that it was canceled. We were actually even inviting friends over so they can listen in as the tours past by. We are so upset.
Dear, John I believe you lived in my home at one point (Center st). Please keep us in mind if you do the tour on Halloween. We love the action. Email me please if there is anything we can do to make sure the Tour goes on. Rob and Jess
Hey John, that would be great! Your tour last year was my mine and my girlfriend's second date together and we were looking forward to doing it again a year later.
Rich - Are you saying John C and I both went on a date with you and your GF?? Interesting. ;-)

At this point, it's too late for the original date. Anybody up to Friday October 29th? We all could meet in the parking lot behind the Presbyterian Church on Washington Street at about 7:30 pm. We could walk the historical district, the college area, Charlie Browns, and Main Street. The Center Street house will be on the walk.
It will be about a 2+ hour walk, so please keep this in mind with young children. Please contact me by my regular e-mail to reserve your spot. Just posting here will not count. I will set a cutoff number at 25 people.
There will be a $10 donation fee. (100 % to go to the Presbyterien Church building fund)
I will begin a new thread when I return later today from Lancaster Pa.

A new thread has been started for the "Hackettstown Haunts" walking tour on Friday October 29, 2010.

I have 1 ticket left for the Saturday night ghost walk due to a cancellation. The Friday night ghost walk and the Paranormal Investigation of a local Hackettstown Haunt on Friday and Saturday nights are sold out! If anyone wants the last ticket they need to e-mail me to reserve it. All proceeds benefit the Hackettstown Historical Society.

Investigate the Battlefield Bed & Breakfast property, located on the
Gettysburg Battlefield. This pre-civil war era home and barn is
nestled on top of 30 acres of hallowed ground. Believed to have been
used as a field hospital during the battle and also said to have been
the location where the final shots of the Battle of Gettysburg took
place. Visitors of the B&B have claimed to have paranormal experiences
ranging from simple footsteps, to full body apparitions! Bring all of
your friends because this place is huge!
This event is in conjunction with the International Museum of
Spiritual Investigations (IMSI) located at 231 Baltimore St. in
Gettysburg. You may call the Museum if you're having trouble
registering on their web site for the Saturday investigation at
717-398-2026.

Been there a few years back.....got a few EVP's, nothing too special. Too far far the main part of the battlefield, but did see action late in the day with Farnsworth's Charge against the Confederate right flank. Also near the 3rd and 5th Corps Field Hospitals. Episode never aired.
